Nuclear energy actually has useful proven applications. Meanwhile beyond generating cat pictures, porn, and embarrassingly bad legal documents perfect for losing court cases most of what AI has to offer is promises from snakeoil salesmen of shit that'll totally be available soon™ provided you throw a few more billion dollars their way.

Wrong John. If anything Carmack recently gave his retrospective on Quake's development after Sandy brought it up and apologized for pushing everyone too hard.

I still don't know what data centers are actually supposed to do. Are they exclusively for AI or is data storage and handling in general?
>>
>>741917027
I would rather have a nuclear car than a datacenter attached to some boomer's house. I would rather eat radium than be within a thousand miles of an AI datacenter that exists solely to profile my viewing habits to deliver advertisements that have a .000000038% greater chance of resulting in me spending money. That's the fucking difference, John boy. The AI datacenters provide no power. They provide no jobs. They provide no tangible benefit to humanity. They provide benefit to demons who exist solely to trick what remains of cognizant human life upon this planet into being stuck in this cycle of suffering and rebirth we call existence.

Fuck you, nigger. I hope your kids get raped to death by feral pigs.
>>
>>741926352
AI
cloud storage
websites and web services
basically anything relating to a computer that's not on your device is most likely coming from a datacenter
hence blind opposition to them is pretty retarded, and corpo niggers also shouldn't have free reign with them

>>741920258
Nothing happened to him, Carmack's always been an insufferable assbag obsessed with getting to play with the latest gimmick technologies at his own leisure

AI is going to provide the fact checkers to stamp out disinfo, I thought that's what you all wanted. it'll give a great tool to censor poltards too.

>>

NTA but Carmack's statement that millions of companies are getting great returns from AI is absolutely untrue. Most companies are deliberately dumping AI because they aren't getting any value out of it at all. Haven't seen 2026 numbers yet, but 2024 and 2025 numbers had less than 5% of companies that made use of AI reporting any return on investment or value from it at all. Some companies were so desperate to try to squeeze value out of it they demanded employees make use of a minimum amount of tokens per day, and it ended up in them wasting a lot of money for no gains or return, and that was before the price increase on tokens.

And speaking of increased price for tokens. Even AI companies aren't getting good value or returns, hence why they increased the price of tokens by a shit load. No one wants to stay subscribed or pay for their services because the juice isn't worth the squeeze, so they had to up prices to try to finally try to make some deficit off setting revenue from the few dumbasses still trying to figure out how to get some value from their subscriptions.
>>
>>741913735
It was kinda the opposite from what I read, Carmack sounded pretty apologetic about how things turned out.

>>741920258
This guy thought VR was the future for a decade and look where that went. I think he just gets excited for new tech and new tech has been solutions looking for a problem for like 2 decades now.
>>
>>741926352
Provide computational power.
More datacenters being built near other people means reduced latency for when they want people to rent their computers.
It also lets them pull the same grift that cloudflare pulls by allowing them to DDOS websites and maybe sell them preventative measures if they're allowed to act as MITM attacks.
>>741927227
There's some things that remote hosting is good for, but remote services like cloud storage and cloud streaming are grifts that are more expensive than just doing it yourself.

>I still don't know what data centers are actually supposed to do
every company doesn't even have computers as you know them, they just have iot devices and thin clients that connect to cloud services that host and run fucking everything. that's why when some dipshit at crowdstrike trips over a cable or pushes one little oopsie patch entire infrastructures cease to exist and you end up stuck at an airport for a week.

>>
>>741917027
I wouldn’t mind so much if AI was just that instead of being used as mass surveillance and that’s ACTUALLY what the data centres are for
>>
>>741929293
Yes, but for example gooners go great lengths to optimize their smut generators. For llms, Chinese get like 80% performance of the best American models for much cheaper; burgers says because Chinese are distilling their models which is true in some cases, but if Americans restrict their models they will lose human factor unless they have the cash flow to keep hiring millions of jeets to fine tune/reinforce their models. There is a point of diminishing returns where local is good enough using last gen grey market accelerators.

And Romero can't even release shovelware, all he does is simp for his wife and her mixed black son
>>
>>741928845
the ones getting great returns from AI are the ones selling companies hardware so they can use it to lose money

>Short hair and weird shorn haircuts are consistently some kind of weird emasculation ritual
It's literally just sumptuary laws being repeated throughout history. Don't dye your clothes blue or wear your hair long, only the nobility can do that, know your place.
It's all centuries upon centuries of ritually humiliating everyone lower on the rank chain than you.
