Don't forget that PCfags are partially responsible for the death of physical media.

SUCK PEPEE AND EAT DA POOPO HAHAHA XD!
>>
I unironically miss when games used to come with booklets and guides. Some even came with a free poster.

The exact moment gaming went to dogshit can be pinpointed to when PS2 cases removed the memory card holder

Physical on PC died because physical on PC has always been dicks and nothing like console physical.

>Buy cartridge/disc for console/handheld
>Pop in
>Play
>Discs come in reusable cases, only cartridges come with disposable packaging

>Buy disc PC
>Installation, big games are several discs of installation
>1 or none are needed to actually play the game on the computer while the rest sit unused until the next installation (years off)
>All this in a biodegradable cardboard box that you will surely fuck up and lose

Xbox 360 arcade was the trojan horse that got consolefags. PC going digital would have never moved the dial in a different market
>>
In the 90's I had to write letters to developers if I wanted a patch. Sometimes they replied, sometimes they wouldn't. Every time I usually got a stack of floppies. You kids have no idea how easy you have it. Be thankful.
>>
I genuinely do not get /v/'s recent obsession with physical. It looks to me like a bunch of larping zopmers that werent there for physical pc games towing the "old good new bad" line for easy updoo- I mean (you)s.

It's Nintendo's fault.

Sorry, I play games. I don't play with paper and plastic junk and collectables.

Even better was if the poster was the ingame map.

Sony's war on physical discs on PC did far more damage than anything else, but you're too young to remember that.
>>
Physicals and big boxes never went away. You were just on the wrong side of the fence.
>>
>>741916987
Other also came with an character biography of who the characters were since not everyone could watch game trailers nor had the budget or intention of adding cinematics in the game explaining who the characters were. At best you get a half minute into setting up the character and the rest was all gameplay.
>>
Don't forget Gamestop killed all the little stores that carried PC games. There was an organized push to only sell console games. Snoy and Timmy Tencent tried to kill PC and both of them FUME at Gaben because PC didn't die.

Shitstirring aside, it does raise a potential argument. Not many PC towers come with disc readers these days, right? Even modern laptops phased it out; SD card readers are more likely to be found than a disc reader.
And since PC gaming is such a dominant part of the industry, it's hard to argue. But there's two further sides to this: indie games and free to play games.
In order for a game to be "free" to play, there has to be a free access point. Which means it can't have ANY cost getting in. If PCs had mandated disc readers for games, free to play games would cease to exist and basically only exist on mobile. But it's because they're entirely digital, they CAN exist. If you had to pay for a disc version of it, it would no longer be FTP, it'd be paid. And paying for a game that's centered on milking as much money as possible, almost exclusively multiplayer based, little to no single player content and content is drip fed through years? It'd be dead within a year. So beause F2P are digital, and massive, it created a subconscious greenlight for games to be more and more digital due to the financial success of these bloodsuckers.
And then for indies; if indies as they are now and were then HAD to make physical discs, there would be substantially less of them that got made and many more would end up just shutting down due to being in the red after being unable to make up costs, even if their game sold well "for an indie". It's because they're digital they can freely exist and just pay a store front fee. But it's because there's such a low barrier to entry, there are millions of indies that try to scam you.
So really, PC did in fact cause a domino effect, which you PC faggoys gladly enabled because you all want to be manchildren about consoles for some reason.
You're why parts are up.
Why AI is being shoved down our throats.
Why game prices are increasing.
Why the average game model is built on subscriptions and passes and DLC.
It's your fault.

>1 or none are needed to actually play the game on the computer while the rest sit unused until the next installation (years off)
I had educational games as a kid that required me to swap discs.

I still have no idea why this phenotype popped out of nowhere when Switch released. Where were they when 3DS and Wii U were around?

Also why the fuck do people self-insert as Homelander, at least Bateman was cool somewhat
>>

PC and laptops stopped having cd roms since 2015. It also became progressively smaller and smaller. At first it was just micro CDs, usually for OS and motherboard installation, then it went full USB sticks. If cloud storage becomes more efficient, we won't need usb sticks eventually as well.
>>
>>741916642
That's pretty much exactly what it is
Physical media was only ever worthwhile for a gaming console, if you have a PC there's little benefit to physical media
>>
>>741917395
Homelander is a child in the body of a god

Millennials and zoomers that like him are manchildren in the body of an adult

This happened with PC games in the early 2000s which is why everyone moved to Steam.
>>
>>741916008
Are you kidding zoomer, PC physical used to come with the best shit. Maps made of cloth, lore books, art books etc. Way more premium than anything on console.
Steam is the most soulless, corporate thing to ever happen to videogames and most things people hate about modern gaming were pioneered by Valve
>>
>>741916642
It's larping zoomers.
>>

I'm good lil bro, you can stick to your despair cube that can be unplugged if you make fun of Trump while I rock analog.

They were kids who grew up with the Wii and DS.
>>
are the retail stores paying to have the boxes in there to bring in dumb boomers to the physical store?
I dont understand why TakeTwo would pay for the boxes to exist, the only incentive that makes sense is that its a way to get people into a wallmart.
>>
>>741917838
/v/ is just self hating zoomers and manchild millennials which is why they obsess over physical media
>>
>>741917734
Shalom.

Shelf space still holds weight.
>>
>>741916008
Problem is it was always piss easy to steal games via piracy on PC, it's why you had so many copy protection things in the pre internet days that required the manual. But at least you still owned it.

Boils down to the usual election tourists seething over Superman and the idea that you have power to lord over others, but use it to serve and better society, and not lord over people.
This is the big reason why Superman, but evil. is popular. Or worse, the retards who think Lex Luthor is the good guy.
>>
>>741918172
digital games are literal goyslop compared to what they replaced
>>
>>741915506
Wrong. PC games used to come with entire 189 page manuals until zoomies ruined everything.
>>
>>741915506
Not my fault devs fucked up discs so bad and made the experience so miserable we developed an entire scene around no-cd cracks. I bet they would still be around if shit was just plug and play.
>>
That's all console stuff in the images tho

it was pointless, you don't need a separate memory card for each game, even on ps1
>>
>>741917340
>I still have no idea why this phenotype popped out of nowhere when Switch released.
Because it didn't "pop up out of nowhere", snoys seethed so hard that they started making collages of every single image like that they could find. These people always existed, and snoys spammed their images everywhere and continue to do so to this day.
>>
>>741918940

mmos used to have these dummy thick manuals, even some korean mmos, because of how much more harder to get into compared to other normal games at the time

I've come to realise the people on this board who complain about "muh zoomers" are just out of touch retards who feel threatened when someone younger then them likes something that they also grew up with. It triggers some fight or flight response in their brain
>>

They just needed to keep making good PC games.

SecuROM, GFWL and empty cases.
