Bloodborne is mostly linear. 1/5 Souls games had any kind of unintuitive navigation. All Souls games are boss rush simulators if you are good at them. If you took a long time to reach the area boss in any previous game, that was a skill issue.

Like the idea that this is a role-playing game and you have "builds".Not really. Not like actual RPG games. Souls games are way closer to a Zelda or Metroid game. The game gives you a massive variety of tools to win, and you should be prepared to use them all. But then there are huge numbers of people who say "I'm playing a strength build, I don't want to use a ranged weapon on this boss". But....that's nonsense. The bosses have specific weaknesses and the game gives you tools to exploit them. To not use them is adding additional challenge from outside the game. Souls vets saying to always prioritize fashion gets a lot of beginners in trouble.

Nonlinear doesn't mean every single thing in the game has to be doable in every single order. Unintuitive is also a bad thing, if the game doesn't give you the general idea of progression then it is not well designed. Because Elden Ring specifically has attacks designed to be unintuivie to dodge unless you know the frame data and only autists want to do that. It also has frame reading so you can't think outside the box unlike with Dork Souls 1-3.
