I don't think you'll hear one whisper about HL3 until it's ready to ship. Anything they promise will be analyzed and re-analyzed in 90 minute Youtube videos.

They've put themselves into Duke Nukem Forever expectations that they can't possibly live up to. HL3 being playable and fun is the best they can hope for and it will still get trashed relentlessly if even 10% of the players don't like the ending (which they won't).
