I bought a solid rig in early 2025. I will ride it into the ground for the next 10-15 years like my last rig. All my years as a teenager on a $200 e-machine with a half gig of ram and an 80gb HD have trained me for these times. When this computer dies I will scavenge old hardware, only play games from before 2015 and indie slop, only stream self hosted pirated media and self ripped DVDs.That only part that REALLY stings is HD prices skyrocketing. I want to selfhost, archive, and have backups.

We're only halfway through 2026 and things are already pretty grim. I'm scared to imagine what we'll see through 2027. Sony and Microsoft can't release new consoles in this type of market. Nobody will be able to afford $1,500 consoles or some outrageous price. The Steam Machine/Valve already took that plunge, charging an absorbent amount of money for something that isn't even worth $700, but Valve claims it's worth $1,100 "in parts" so that's what Valve put into it. The tech itself in a normal economic market would be maybe $600-$700.
