Why can't Sony, MS, and Nintendo just eat the costs of the supposed rising RAM costs instead of raising the prices of their consoles?
>they'd make less money
Of course. At some point, though, being pro-consumer has to become a thing. Right?
>>
Nintendo can, because they have a massive stockpile of wealth from their many years of success. Sony and Microsoft can't because they don't do that.
>>
>>741935627

because investors... They hate losing any penny
>>
>>741935627
Because screwing consumers over is the point. The greed is the point. The cruelty. Is. The point.
>>
>>741935627
>supposed
Im so tired of stupid schizo threads.
>>
>>741936095
And yet you entered of your own volition. The shortage of RAM is self-induced, not because of natural market conditions.
It's the same as oil. There is no natural shortage of oil. The companies price gouge any time there's even the slightest excuse to do so.
>>
>>741936203
Yes the RAM cartel is a very real thing and has been for decades but the price increase still fucking exists.
>>
>>741936272
>price increase still fucking exists.
It shouldn't. There should be regulatory bodies that make sure this shit doesn't happen.
>>
>>741935627
Not possible while you answer to shareholders.
>>
>>741936339
Then get rid of the concept of shareholders.
>>
>>741936338
>*lobbies your regulatory bodies*
They have agreed that I can do whatever I want.
>>
>>741935627
>Of course. At some point, though, being pro-consumer has to become a thing. Right?
The entire point of a business is to make money and some businesses are far more blatant about that than others. Consoles haven't even gotten truly slammed yet since they built up stockpiles and signed contracts before the market got totally fucked and they're still raising prices across the board. It's going to be ugly when those stockpiles run out and new contracts have to be signed.
>>
Instead of raising prices, people at the executive level should take pay cuts.

Greed. These fuckers don't give a shit about anything but making even more fucking money. Insane mentality. Totally deranged behavior.
>>
Valve refused to do it and it's a private firm that answers to no one but big gabe and you think these public companies can do it with investors breathing down their necks.
>>
>>741936808
>it's a private firm
For now. You know the second Gabe leaves, they will fight tooth and nail to get that company to go public.
And when that happens, say hello to paying to play online.
>>
>>741936338
Nice ideal world you've envisioned there. Too bad it ain't reality.
>>
>>741937015
>Nice ideal world you've envisioned there.
That is one of my faults, I do admit.
>>
>>741935627
Why? Gamers are dumb and will buy it anyway. You can raise the cost of anything and most humans on Earth will buy it doubly so if its NOT important to survival because humans are stupid like that. And these companies understand how idiotic the consumer actually is. Wish they got even more evil, cruel, and greedy.
>>
>>741937138
>Gamers are dumb and will buy it anyway.
I think we're starting to get to a tipping point. How many times have they raised the prices of their consoles over the past few years?
How many times have people tried building a PC only to see the price of RAM and just stick with their old stuff?
>>
>>741937250
Hope you're right.
>>
>>741937250
I think the one-two punch of the cost of living being fucked AND hobbies being fucked is going to make it come to a point soon.
I don't actually have any idea what is going to happen though. I'm pretty fucking pissed off all the time now despite making more money than ever I'm being squeezed by everything.
>>
>>741936808
To be fair, Valve is in a different position. If they had addled the Steam Machine with a console's worth of DRM and never allowed access to anything but the Steam store they could have subsidized it.
Shitty situation either way.
>>
>>741937250
No, he's right. Gamers are cattle and we're still very far from their breaking point. The prices will give parents pause, so fewer children will be inducted into the cattle group, but that's a long-term problem while the industry is chasing short-term growth
>>
>>741935627
Nintendo is already taking 1 billion hit, retard. APPLE is raising prices and they're like the biggest most profitable company on the planet

there literally isnt a single company that exists that improves for its consumers after going public

This thread is close enough to ask this,
If i'm planning on getting the xbox helix which is supposed to come out end of 2027, would it be stupid to buy that clear green xbox since it'd literally be a year apart?
>>
>>741944184
>i'm planning on getting the xbox helix which is supposed to come out end of 2027, would it be stupid
Yes
>>
>>74193640
>stock keeps going down
>nintendo: =) hey we got new games and most of them are very risky
>stockholders: I'll sell my stock
>nintendo: ok!
Pretty sure Nintendo ignores them.
>>
>>741944184
The xbox series x25 is more of a collectors thing, so unless you want it for collector purposes, yes. You're spending $800 (guessing it'll be standard 1tbh model price) that could be going towards the helix which is estimated to cost around $1.2k, and that's not a confirmed price. Could be higher.
>>
Because they are publically traded.
>>
>>741936405
Going public is how these companies got millions of dollars to waste on frivolous projects like Concord and Marathon. Without shareholders we wouldn't have these masterpieces. Also Sony went public in 1955 so blame your grandpa.
>>
>>741944429
>stock becomes penny stock
>American vultures can buy your company out 51% and remove you as CEO and dismantle your company for peanuts and sell the IP for Samus Aran to Microsoft before moving on
Nintendo cares. They just can't make good video games and have enough cultists to keep buying trash.
>>
>>741936203
Tf does this even mean? The companies like Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron that produced the quality consumer grade RAM are rotating out of it and tooling their production towards enterprise HBM because it has higher margins and demand. This is a natural market response. The only politics caused aberration would be Chinese companies that would like to replace the consumer level production having export bans that deny them from having the top of the line ASML machinery, but even if they did it would take a couple years at least for production to come online.
>>
For the people...
>>
>>741936338
the country selling them will not do that

other countries need to import

i.e. if USA rants and threats anything they will happily sell only to china

SONY and Microsoft can but they won't because you're cattle to them.
