Because they are the most one-note elf type, most of the time. You can develop high elves and dark elves in all manner of different directions. You can root for high elves being the cool hero good guys or enjoy the edgy sadistic nature of the badguy dark elves.Wood elves do nature stuff and that is all there is to them. Sometimes they are hippies, sometimes they are more barbaric. But they always just sit in their woods and snarl at outsiders. I think it really doesn't help that wood elves are so confined into their specific area, rarely venturing out and engaging with the world at large.
