Here's a shitty game made by a young Australian couple who worked in banking and got $30 million in funding to make the shittiest looking game ever. They marketed it by calling it a "solarpunk" game. Have these people ever seen real solarpunk art? The slop they made is an insult to the solarpunk genre.

Solarpunk is just poor city planning and societal rot on the left. I think you made this up.
>>
Solarpunk is the most cringe shit.
>I'm doing what the billionaires all want me to, look how punk I am!!!

Planned cities always fail. In the Heian period in Japan, they planned a new capital in Kyoto, where the city was one long line with planned sections for shops and other services in each sector. Within 20 years, most of the city was abandoned, and the shops were clustered in a small area in the Northeast near the palace.

Cities organically plan themselves to be livable. If you ever go to Shenzhen, you'll see how boring and empty a planned city is.

>Solarpunk is just poor city planning and societal rot on the left.
That is all it is. It is a visual style meant to mimic the poorest most depressed areas of china. Tekkonkinkreet has this style and every character in the movie says there is something deeply wrong with their city and the story is about how it turns you evil.

I liked it when it was about having a developed tropical place with lots of East Asian influence.

Now, it's like you said, just slop that billionaires want us to live in with sterile buildings and wind turbines making people sick, and with every corporate office looking like Google.

You don't think it's more Japanese influenced?

>It is a visual style meant to mimic the poorest most depressed areas of china.
I've been to Xian and left isn't nearly dirty, drab or miserable enough to reflect that. It's also missing all the maimed beggars who stalk tourists all across town screaming in broken English.

Yeah exactly. For some reason, China doesn't have that Kino aesthetic that Japan has. I studied Asian culture in uni and I still can't understand why China is so unpleasing, whether in a rich a poor area.

Even historically, Chinese people aways bought manga, novels, and woodblock prints from Japan. Why can't Chinese make nice art?

There's no such thing as "solarpunk" so how could they have ever seen it?
>>
>>741953356
paintings that can have as much detail as necessary vs a video game that has to work on 8gb ram

The chinese people have been splintered and had many diaspora thru history. All the good parts of their culture left and went south to korea and then east to japan. What is left in china is literally the dregs that couldn't flee when foreign invaders sacced china for thousands of years.

Then why does it look worse than games on 30 year old consoles
>>
>>741954891
Would rather a solapunk visual novel or puzzle game / jrpg with pre-rendered backgrounds instead of a shitty game that looks like playdough
>>
>>741954743
>Why can't Chinese make nice art?

Mao killed all those people. Modern China is the descendants of the insect hive that have nothing going on in their heads except scamming and blindly following orders.
>>
>>741955102
Literally looks like playdough.

Game was produced by a young Australian couple with no prior experience, art was outsourced to South America
>>
>>741955102
>>741955231
the game doesnt look good, sure
doesnt change the fact that op is retarded for comparing apples to oranges
>>
>>741954743
Chinese culture seems to flourish well enough in areas where the CCP didn't fuck everything up, e.g. pre-handover Hong Kong or Taiwan right now. Much like Russia, Eastern Europe and everywhere else it touched, communism leads only to brutalist aesthetics and miserable visuals.
>>
>>741955636
I was comparing the art direction. Here's some concept art for the game. Still looks like dogshit
>>
>>741955865
then just say the game looks like shit. why did you need to compare it to paintings? post a solarpunk game that looks good and compare that
>>
>>741953765
Anon I don't what kind of paradise you live in, but without city planning half of the land in my city council area will be bought out by developers to build apartments - which will then be bought by chinese investors to use as airbnb instead of long leases - which hikes up the rental price

I assert too little planning is more dangerous than too much planning

Every time I come on this website, there's always one annoying person that keeps changing the goalposts just to get across the idea that they're right about something.

It's a really annoying personality trait. I used to do it, but thankfully I stopped.

Once again, I'm comparing the art direction. There are no good solarpunk games, which is why I was sad that, when people finally started making solarpunk games, they all had terrible art direction. My best example might be Final Fantasy X.

>>741956117
I live in the same city as the developers for this game.

I'm not saying that city councils can't make sure that people follow rules, I meant that I don't like cities that are pre-emptively planned out. For example, the Line city, Neom, was a terrible idea, but I'm happy with a local government organising things when people try to build. If that's what you meant by city planning, then I misunderstood your original comment, and most likely we actually agree

The Tang culture left and went to Japan
The Ming culture left and went to Korea
The Republic culture left and went to Taiwan
The Qing culture on the other hand, never left
>>
>>741956437
That explains it. My family is from Hong Kong, and growing up with Taiwanese and Hong Kongers, as well as Japanese and Koreans, we all seemed to have similar aesthetic sensibilities. Then all these mainlanders showed up, and they not only had a terrible taste in art, but their lifestyle sucked. I can't believe these people don't walk barefoot indoors. They all wear slippers all year round, which damages their feet long term and fucks their knees.

I didn't know the specifics I only knew a large mass went south then east. Basic logic would state those that didn't leave were the dregs.
