Microsoft is having to contend with the reality that Windows 11 adoption rates are so bad that they have to continue supporting Windows 10, at least for the time being. Perhaps their efforts to reduce integrated AI will do something in the future.
>>
>>741956724
i've yet to hear a convincing reason to change to Win11
>>
>>741957034
there is absolutely no reason unless they force you to
It works "the same" but it's still as bad as Windows ever was

Why, do people have something to hide or what?
Copilot is your friend, it takes pictures of your private stuff because microsoft wants to protect you.

I bought 2 new computers and ended up just reselling them because they're finicky as fuck. I gave up on getting a deal and just went and got another old workstation. I would be using 11 just because the new ones won't run 10 but I guess I just can't have new things
>>
Windows 11 has 80% market share on Statcounter. You can't even install Windows 10 on new hardware because of secure boot certificate updates.

You're not manually remembering that MicroSlop WinJeet 11 is so fucking bad it continously breaks core functionalities like Explorer.exe and tries to slop-code refactor them in a GODDAMN START UP PROCESS because "it slow" as the reasoning.

>>
>>741958042
Not really.
Linux desktop is almost as functional as windows XP and uglier. Much much uglier.
But it's the only game in town till real state backed OS alternatives are brought in and Torvalds gets bought off or threatened to start implementing backdoors and AIshit into the kernel project.
Which will be soon.

When Valve really leans into SteamOS and stops dicking around with their shitty 1k set top box then the linux desktop will become a real threat on desktop pcs.
And I don't see a single solitary piece of software on earth that can stop people from switching.
Nvidia has fucked themselves out of being something the average consumer or diehard hobbiest can afford or wants and will go over to other alternatives that will just werk.

>>
>>741957034
The """benefits""" are that it's fully-integrated with AI and that it's got a "sleek, modern" interface. In theory, games are supposed to run better on it too as long as you've got modern enough components to support everything properly... in theory.
Microsoft doesn't understand what people want though, so they just kinda shit this stuff out without a concern.

>>741956724
Consumers reject Win11 in theory, but in practice everything comes with Win11, so adoption rates rise regardless of IQ. Happens with every new gen too, even some businesses are like "hurr durr, we upgraded to Windows Vista without checking first and now all our software doesn't work, durrrrr, @FBI @Microsoft @Windows @Nintendo"
I've been keeping my computer incompatible with Win11 on purpose so they can't just ""upgrade"" me in my sleep, heh. *dabs at microsoft*

Short blogpost:
>parents call me up to ask about their new-ish (but cheap) laptop shitting the bed
>next time I visit, I check it
>maxed RAM and storage
>Win11 installed itself (or someone NPC'd and manually "upgraded")
>clean the hell out of the system
>now everything's only 90% full because it REALLY shouldn't be running Win11
>end up spending half the visit backing up like 100GB of random family pictures from the Downloads folder mixed in with random other junk
>>
>>741957034
eventually games will start using kernel features only in W11+ and stop booting at all, and only a few of the most popular games will get hacked to run on W10, and if you complain about it at that point, the majority of people will be on 11+ and will attack you for not being on it too as if you insulted them
that was the only reason to update past 7 and it'll be the only reason to update past 10

>>741960349
The way 10 dies isn't by cutting off security updates, it's by both MS dropping 10 on their SDK and 3rd party dependencies not being assed to continue supporting an end of life OS, so suddenly the future versions of your software start going 'no way fag, updoot already'.

Such as...? W10 and 11 are extremely similar under the hood, to the point that the kernel is still NT version 10. It's not like the jump from 7 to 10.
They will try to artificially gate software to 11 but it will be easy to bypass. You can still run some modern software that does this to 7 with some effort.

Hey Microsoft, I got an idea. Instead of creating shitty operating systems that continue to appeal to people that don't use computers, why not improve and build upon features that PC users need and want?

Microsoft might not need to depend solely on operating systems for their income anymore, but they own the market and are completely destroying it chasing AI dreams. How stupid can you be to completely destroy your control over the market? It would be like Valve flipping on a monthly subscription fee. These other investments of yours aren't guaranteed to pay the bills in 10 years. But an operating system people are familiar with is continued customers in the future if the product remains good.

Businessmen are the worst people to run a business. It's absolutely ridiculous.

If you're on Win10, you're already in Microsoft's ecosystem and therefore not the primary target audience for Win11. That's Apple users, all the adjustments to visuals and functionality Win11 brings were made to appeal to people using MacOS in effort to pull them over.

Tabbed Explorer. This alone makes it so I will never go back to W10, I can't live without it.
When you plug in a controller like a DualSense it doesn't automatically shift everything to that controller and remembers you don't want its speaker or microphone as the default every time you do so.
Could be anecdotal but it boots like 5-10 seconds faster than when I had 10 and overall the UI experience is far smoother and less rigid.
Generally it has better performance in a lot of games, especially newer ones or if you're trying to do borderless windowed gaming. It's more of a problem if you prefer older games because I think it has compatibility issues or something? I know it's more of a hassle but I haven't made any attempt to play non-GOG older stuff.
I don't have a monitor with it but apparently it has proper HDR support.

I'd still say don't touch it at all until we see what happens with 26H2 and if their promised improvements actually happen or if they're just lying through their teeth. No matter what you do you have to install it via Rufus to disable many of the garbage things on install, and then even after you've installed and fully updated it you can't use it until you run both WinUtil and O&O Shut Up because the sheer amount of telemetry and bloat is disgusting if you don't. Once you run those it's fine, you only have to run them again if you do a major upgrade update since they sometimes sneak certain stuff back on but that's literally version increasing updates, not normal security ones.

>>741965768
Not if you make an iso with Rufus. Just tick on every option that disables their "mandatory" requirements and then when you install it simply tell it you have no internet connection. As long as you don't have an ethernet cable plugged in it doesn't care. I just had to reinstall two days ago because I did a complete overhaul of my system and just using it as-is was giving me weird issues in games for the past few weeks and the reinstall fixed it.

No matter how much Jeets try to say "not really," yes. Valve's investment has paid off. Most "normies" and single-player gamers can run things on Linux fine at this point since nearly everything normies use is a PWA and doesn't need a "native" client.

Shit, even Discord is a fucking web-app (and if you're dumb enough to use it in a Chrome tab/Electron "native" application is still a fucking browser app), so opening it in Firefox/Chrome on Linux is the same as Chrome/Firefox on Windows.

Get Normies to see that and it's over for Windows.

No, it's still garbage made by retarded autists who refuse to implement the most basic QoL or user safety features (aka they think that 10% of the buttons in the cockpit being an instant auto-destruction with no other purpose is "freedom"). It's just that the cycle of needing security updates has died many years ago. You don't need updates to be safe, you don't get aids cancer by visiting a website anymore, basic security features are extremely strong and you cannot get viruses anymore unless you're being extremely retarded by downloading bad files and forcing them to run despite multiple different warnings. So you can comfortably sit on W10 with no worries of security risks, and since W11 is dogshit, no reason to "upgrade".

This "me" issue doesn't exist on Windows, so I'll stay on debloated W10 dear linuxtard. Quite hilarious that every single time Mint has an issue, instead of giving you a coherent error message or trying to repair itself, all it does is stop the entire PC from even reaching the login phase, and just have a black screen spouting out garbage if anything at all (it also loves the bug where the screen is black, then progressively gets covered in a white texture until it's all blank white).

>>741970371
Yeah I know. The only way Linux becomes not shit is for an actual serious company/group to make a single version, and stop with the ancap tranny retardation. And for fuck sake, actual safety features. It's infinitely better to be "restricted" on W (which is a complete fucking lie if you're not using your PC for server shit as your job) than to have to walk around landmines on Linux where trying to change the screen's brightness can nuke the computer.

Anyway, all linuxfags lie by omission about this issue and pretend spending years learning to avoid invisible mines is easy but using an automatic debloater on windows in 10 minutes is impossible. Debloated W10 ass rapes Mint so much it's not even funny.

The French government have already started rolling their own custom Linux distros for their police due to the invasive telemetry in Windows. I can definitely see other countries following suit,

>Anon, Linux still has extremely unintuitive 3 letters folders and retarded incomprehensible filepaths because of memory limitations 50 years ago. The fucking FILEPATHS haven't evolved in 50 years, so where Windows shows you a nice "Downloads" or "Programs" folder, troonix goes "HPE" "DTR". Linux has not evolved one bit in decades, still as dogshit as ever.
Look I make a literal living shilling Windows to organizations across the country (I build custom hardened corporate/government images for Windows products professionally) and that might be the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Linux is the opposite of Windows in that it innovates. Linux has no problem dropping literally everything and starting over from scratch, shedding all legacy support. Meanwhile at least 70% of the tricks I employ to "break" Windows to do what I need haven't changed since... well since I started. So Windows 2000. Almost nothing meaningful in Windows has changed. Ever. Any perceived changes to folder structure YOU are seeing are just symlinks and hardlinks. Smoke and mirrors to trick people who don't know shit about computers.

What's with this gaslighting hebrew nonsense? I've been using 4chanx since 2012. Update cadence is the same as it has always been. In the early days it got pretty frequent updates to get in all the features people donated to request. After it reached stability it only got updates when the site changed. And that remains the same today.

It says absolutely nothing about “invasive telemetry” you cretin, it says they started building it post-2004 because they couldn’t afford using proprietary software in the future. This is nothing new, Turkish gendarmerie has been using their own custom Linux distro since 2008 too. Italy does as well IIRC. GTFO with your sensationalised faggotry.

Have to confirm. Mint is apparently notorious for not working well with AMD Cpus. But nobody mentions this when installing it. Kinda crazy to hide a huge fact that affects like 50% of the market.

Otherwise Mint has been great but I can't use an OS that keeps freezing randomly.

The people you should avoid are those who speak in faux-apathetic lowercaps at all times. To be clear, I'm not talking about people who speak without grammar in game in order to get their messages out faster. I'm talking about those who sit down to compose an image board post with all the time in the world and willfully choose to omit punctuation and capitalization. They are not doing this to save time. In fact, they may take additional time to redact habitual grammar from their posts.

Their motivation for this style of posting is simple. They are trying to present an aura of apathy. They want to communicate: "I don't care about anything, least of all the rules of grammar." The reason they work so hard to cultivate this image of emotional invulnerability is because they are, in actual fact, extremely emotional and unstable people. If you become close to them you will catch glimpses of the volatility lurking beneath their patchwork mask of cool indifference. The lowercaps poster will silently catalog transgressions you have in its eyes committed. You will only become aware of them during the rare tantrum blowups that characterize these people. They must be avoided for your own good. The faux-apathetic lowercaps posters really could not be more pathetic.
