Aside from the "sauce loss" of the voices im really enjoying it. Kind of splits the difference between 64 and Zero in terms of aesthetics and feel. One screen this time though, thank god. Some of the challenges are super assy and do that "play in the most unfun obnoxious way possible" thing not a fan of that. Really hard to deviate from almost 3 decades of muscle memory.Multiplayer is pretty fun. Bare bones and very 7th gen "tacked on". But I'll drop in and out now and then while its active. The tutorial tells you that if you hold both tilt buttons at the same time (L/R) your charged shot won’t lock on. You can then either freeball the shot or just line up the reticle over what you DO want to lock on and then you can let go of the tilts.Apart from that, USE BOMBS WISELY.

>>741971669Use both tilt triggers to force unlock your shots. Some levels have triggers to spawn new guys, experiment flying through things, under things, generally in weird places. Corneria has this the most, the medal is nearly impossible without knowing to fly between certain buildings, through loops, ect.For Solar, know that shooting charged shots into the lava waves counts as a hit. (Assuming this hasn't changed) you don't actually need to medal on Easy Venom. Venom only has one medal, that's trivial on Hard Venom. Easy Venom's medal is genuinely the hardest medal in the game, I have never gotten it without savestates. If you're struggling with a particular medal, dedicate a run to it. Get to the level with as many bombs stockpiled as possible, consider deliberately killing the others two planets before so they're guaranteed to have full health, ect.Take your time on any of the open ended, all range levels, like Bolse and, fukkin, Bill's level. Know how much you need before you kill the last boss. Bolse is also much much easier if you do it after failing the first star wolf, or from routing there from a failed Sector Z or Macbeth. Just make sure to kill them quick, that one is very worth considering bringing in your allies having killed them two levels prior. Not many opportunities on Sector X unfortunatelySector Z is generally the hardest medal to get, since you need to just know to shoot some of the debris clusters for points, and basically cannot let any of your teammates get the killshot on any missiles. It's much easier to do if you go from Sector X, so don't have to deal with Katt on top of the others.
>>741963149New gamers don't play classic games, so yeah it's worth it. Remakes like these are the only way kids will experience great games from the past.
Just like in the 3ds remaster, they ruined the boss explosions and AGAIN Andross' voice is fucking pathetic. I also don't really like the redesign of his boss location and his redesigned true form. It's less terryfing, they didn't have the balls. I don't know why they keep fucking him up.Other than that, it's a 10. I think it's the best remake I've ever played.
>>741974984yeah, he knew what he was doing.
Wait.. the game is.. good?
>>741975965Unironically brain andross feels like censorship. The design is so much less visceral, bloody, and organic, it can't JUST be a coincidence. That was outright a redesign because the bloody mass of nerves, eyeballs, ect would be too much to secure the rating they wanted nowadays, so they made it a cartoon brain jar with robot eyes.
>>741964324The furries are seething they aren't getting gay fox models.
>>741976151EhObviously there's a certain floor of good, Star Fox 64 is good. A game that's just Star Fox 64 again is good. However, I think it's just worse than OG, so there's no reason to play the remake besides curiosity. The voice acting is terrible, the art direction is messy and all over the place, the music is... fine, the gameplay is mostly the same but mildly worse in a couple fringe areas. If you refuse to play something older than you are, sure, it's fine. But... if you have a Switch 2, you are already almost assuredly paying for online. You HAVE Star Fox 64 on your Switch 2 already.

I've played through 4 times so far and done some multiplayer. Only level I've not done is Titania because you have to actively fuck up to get there, but I'll probably do that on my 5th playthrough.>Gameplay is great, everything feels great, literally my one singular complaint is very specifically that I dislike the missile and laser button placement can't be spammed with a single thumb like it could be on the original, which makes Aquas feel awful, but otherwise it's the original game but much more responsive feeling>Music is AMAZING, absolutely no issues with it, amazing job>Visuals are mostly great, most revamped areas are cool (Corneria looks way more fucked up), but there's a few locations I dislike their the angle they went (Venom needs to be more distinctly coloured in the background of Area 6, it blends too much which weakens the point of it getting closer), but it mostly does the job quite well>Multiplayer is actually REALLY fun, the objective based gameplay is balanced pretty well and has enough going on, but this part is severely let down by only having 3 maps total>Dialogue is the most hit or miss part, and despite being the main draw of this remake specifically, is probably its weakest component. It mostly amounts to very minor character arcs (Falco approving Fox over the course of the easy route) but mostly is just fluff setting elements and a lot of repeating story beats that are just made in the level anyway. At worst, it actively spoils the reveal in the level, so ??? Also you skip these anyway after you see them once and with how the game is meant to be replayed, some of the skipping gets annoying. An option to auto-skip cutscenes you've seen before would be nice. All this said I actually enjoyed some of the new takes, Andross was cool especially.I'm very happy with it overall, plan to do all the achievement stuff.>>741980821Unless you have to unlock Titania naturally first, no.

>>741989029It's easier, I replay 64 like 5 times a year and I immediately spotted the boss nerfs. Star Wolf dies in a single volley now and True Andross shows his weak point a lot more.
>>741980821Not for Sector X anymore. Unlike 64 and 3D, if you clear it fast enough, you MUST go to Macbeth. No more stuffing Slippy into an Arwing and taking potshots at him with the Great Fox's cannons in a botched hazing effort.I'm guessing they couldn't come up with a narrative that set up both a full-force Starfox attacking Macbeth AND a crippled Star Fox going to Titania to rescue Slippy. So they just gutted the option, in a deliberate departure from what you could do in 64.

>>741985108level-5 sale never
>>741989029It’s not just “running better,” I think it’s pretty clear they balanced it to make things easier. Falco is laughably easy to save in the first level, charged shots seem to have a larger splash radius, the Meteo warps are significantly easier to run through, the missiles in Sector Z are like wet paper…The only thing that’s “harder” is they don’t telegraph the weak points on bosses as obviously, which might confuse new players who don’t have all the strategies memorized.
>>741977228Heh.....
>>741989665>I'm guessing they couldn't come up with a narrative that set up both a full-force Starfox attacking Macbeth AND a crippled Star Fox going to Titania to rescue Slippy.Considering they didn't bother to do so for the Macbeth/Sector Z choice, for some reason Pepper just goes "hey you're gonna go through Sector Z? it's scrap right, there's also a major supply line at Macbeth but don't worry about that lol" if you approach via that option.I was so confused because they could very easily have made it Pepper telling you to go to Macbeth but Falco saying you could target a direct approach on Area 6 via Sector Z or something, but instead they just have Pepper with completely nonsensical priorities.>>741989976I agree from what I remember of it. Maybe if the game's story were twice as long and you had the time to play around with Fox feeling some resentment towards James, but the game doesn't have nearly enough length to try and force a daddy issues subplot by a bunch of single-mother-raised developers.

We need your help, Star Fox! That guy I left on Venom because I felt sorry for him, is coming back to kick our asses!
What if this was all an elaborate plot so James could leave his son and be in a gay relationship with Andross?
Does it have the option to switch to the Japanese audio, or are you stuck with the English one?
>>741990219That's at least a narrative explanation: Lay low to stay off of Andross' scent vs cause major damage and force him to scramble.Even I don't know how they would've tackled the two scenarios that can occur from Sector X with their cutscene structure. Again, it's not some contrived tactical reason for going to one planet over the other, it's your team at full strength vs. your team down on man.

>>741997391Getting medals feels slightly easier, however it feels harder to spam charge shots because there is no sound to tell you when the charge is ready (before it locks onto something obviously). Makes free aiming them much tougher. Also some bosses like Gorgon feel way harder in the remake, I think the new graphics just make it more difficult to see whats coming at you and when to dodge.
>>741997318What the others said. My tip is don’t bother with charge shots, they barrel roll them always. Attack the pilots attacking your squad and attack wolf whenever he’s in sight since he’ll chase you 99% of the time.
>>741996626I can't stand the Spyborg's voice, then again I thought it was pretty shit in the original too so I guess it's consistent.

>>741997283There's some slight differences in moving/aiming that I think is just throwing things off. >>742001597>No! Hit the BREAKS!It's kinda disappointing to hear this after the remake. In the remake, the VA was just obviously reading the script and calling it day. 64 version, I could see him taking more than one take to make sure this sounded.Playing around with the different languages, I do like whoever played Leon in french. Really went all out with that character.
>>742001730because Starlink was Toys-to-Life Ubislop
>>742001869This is totally unrelated but it reminds me of how insane the Beast Wars voice actors were. They just went hard for no reason and were doing stupid voice bits but then you had shit like Dinobot dying which hits so fucking hard as a kid. And no one could ever really match them when they reuse the characters either.
>You can actually bump into small debris in Sector YThis game is full of small details it seems.
>>741982952They will be saving her if they do a remake of Adventures if not maybe introduce her in a new Star Fox game. One of the routes has Fox going to her planet and meeting her.
>>742001730hate to say they are kinda old and busted, but more importantly the script and direction wasn't nearly as tight as 64's. also this might sound like a cop out and I swear it's not, but some of the original cast sounds a bit better in a lower-fidelity audio recording, particularly Mike West's Fox which sounded weaker and kind of nerdy in the 3DS remake and Smash 4.incidentally I think something like that was true of the above-mentioned David Hayter's performance in MGS1
Game seems to be selling well, at leastI went to Target a few days before the game released, and there were about a dozen or so Switch 2's in a caseWhen I came back yesterday for the game, around half of them were gone

>>742001656>>7420018014chan memes like barrel roll do not mean good voice acting. That line, and several others, became memes BECAUSE they sounded silly and stupid. That doesn’t mean “good”. Nintendo isn’t out to replicate /b/ memes from 2006.

>>741963149I think it's worth it. The game has the production value to warrant at least a $30+ value (compared to E33's base price of $50 at release), while the gameplay makes up the rest of the price tag. Once could argue $40, but this is Nintendo we're talking about. I personally don't mind it.The voice acting and character designs rightfully get their criticisms, but they're not fatal flaws. If they're going for an inoffensive aesthetic, then they hit the mark. I think this begs the question of why children's media has been so toothless in the past decade, but that's another discussion. The gameplay is great - one thing that I don't agree on with critics is the lack of feedback in gameplay. I think this goes back to the "yellow paint" thing and the critics aren't looking at this game from the arcade angle. What I've noticed in arcades is that you don't get a lot of feedback while playing, which causes some occasional losses. I think this is by design to make you pay more, though here it's just an aesthetic feature - kind of like how some games still track "lives" despite not needing to pay per attempt. I lost a few times in Area 6 because I wasn't sure how to proceed with the boss - I'd never played the N64 original. Anyway, I don't think gameplay feedback is necessary here - just play a few rounds and memorize enemy attack patterns and their weaknesses. The music is excellent and the credits left me staring at my screen and contemplating my experience - I think that's the mark of a good game.I haven't played online much, but it seems novel so far, though I haven't figured out how to make the most of the limited communication features. I don't mind them since I don't think this game has sweat potential (thankfully/hopefully).
Aprushiate it, Fox
>>742002479You just know all the negative reviews are from character design autists.
>>742004557That one review in the 40s was because they just think rail shooters shouldn't exist in the modern era.
>>742001334The 64 dub was corny but that’s not a bad thing. It’s like Top Gun, Star Wars A New Hope, Independence Day, and a plethora of Saturday morning cartoons.
>>741963149It's the same fucking game I played 30 years ago.
I really love the new Arwing designs, they look great. Both Wolfens look nice too but I don’t really like their design in 64 that much compared to the Assault ships the trio had.

>>742001730I don't think people were expecting all of the old actors to come back, retard-kun. They'd be 30 years older and either not able to pull the voices off like they used to, or dead. They just wanted a similar amount of effort from both the VAs and the voice direction, and instead we got something that feels empty and phoned in.I will say Slippy does sound better, though.

>>741989029True Andross has a harder arena and a new attack but he’s not hard or anything, still pretty easy. But yes the game is way easier at such a smooth fps, especially Aquas which isn’t 8 fps anymore. Also, I’m 99% sure the Sector Z medal is way easier to obtain. I got that 1st try this time, and as a kid that was one of the hardest medals. I was genuinely confused, maybe I really have improved after all these years but seriously I got 111 on it, it wasn’t even down to the wire.
>>741972187I saw the new more expensive Amiibo the yesterday day and they’re fucking humongous
I thought the game was pretty good. Wolf's new voice actor doesn't compare to the original though. 6 out of 10.
Peppy’s new VA looks awesome as fuck
Great thread everyone, see you in the next one
>>742004506To be fair, Gorgon was an unclear motherfucker even back in the day.I sucked as a kid so always had everyone dead in Area 6, so never actually knew what contributed to killing it, I just kinda shot it until either it or I died. It wasn't until years later that I was good enough to keep Slippy alive and actually understood what the fuck I was supposed to be doing.

>>741977193Know your place FEtard, your $80 game is sure to flop harder than Prime 4.
>>741989029It's definitely easier. My hand can feel how much less health a lot of things have, I swear to god I kill Star Wolf in ways I have only seen TAS pull off, I have 100% success rates on stuff I could only pull off on a coin flip, ect. The charge shot is absolutely bigger, my muscle memory for some sections is off because my opening charge shot just kills things it never did before. Could also be that hitboxes are bigger. Or both. I definitely feel more accurate, meaning either shit is likely bigger, or there's some kind of aim assist the original didn't have. I can't be certain, I'd need to see side by side, but I FEEL like Solar drains your health more slowly, too. On the absolute side, keeping your upgrades on a restart, and restart being a free resource is a massive level of ease. And they give you like an hour to kill Spyborg before Slippy gets fucked so, that one's absolutely a nerf, but arguably actually just makes things more frustrating, because you have to either literally be four, or deliberately, super duper deliberately want to go to Titania to ever lose Slippy there. I think the harder levels are still gonna chokeslam newer players, but getting medal scores is nowhere near as hard as it used to be, and a few motherfucker sections are noticably easier.I actually played the original a bunch under a year ago, so have pretty fresh, crisp memories.
