In Undertale it served to help humanize the characters. Then all the characters were revealed to have more depth. That they were horribly flawed. That they all had their personal struggles. That they were in the end redeemable and sympathetic. In Deltarune it's like a slide show of quirk chungus side characters. The vast majority of them beyond the main cast don't really get developed. It's like a billion comic reliefs. It's one example of of Deltarune's writing that rubs me the wrong way.

Chapter 5 is filler. The only way Deltarune fans can rehabilitate this chapter years from now is if they see it as filler. Plotwise it merely served to isolate Kris even further and give the player a reason to hate Noelle so that snowgrave has more appeal. I'm fully convinced that the game being divided into 7 chapters was either a writing exercise or was one of the few things actually in the dream -- i.e., it's completely arbitrary. Toby realized that the climax and falling action could've been done in 2 chapters each 5+ hours long; chapter 5 was just taking up space.

I think the requirements of the twisted route are too simple, assuming you're just meant to abort the weird route in chapter 2 after getting the ring then playing normally. The twisted room is presented as the ultimate route, s mix of the normal and weird route, and its requirements to unlock it are dipping into the weird route just the slightest amount then dipping out right away. Doesn't that feel weird to you? Don't you think such s route would deserve a more complex process? I suppose you could mention the secret bosses, they are part of that too, but even so, it still feels weird. To me walking the middle path is going 50/50, meanwhile twisted route as it's presented is 10% weird route and 90% normal route. It just feels too strange to me.
