I wonder how much of this sort of shit voice acting is down to the voice acting director. Because the Remake of FF7 Crisis Core had terrible voice acting but some of the characters in the game are voiced by the exact same people in Remake or Rebirth and they sound much better in Remake or Rebirth than they do in Crisis Core Remake and the only difference is that the voice acting director was a different person for Crisis Core Remake than it was for FF7 Remake and Rebirth.

I actually played Star Fox 64 last night, and it felt like there was stuff missing that made the experience feel... a bit empty.

I understand that everyone enjoyed Star Fox 64 because it is a good game by itself.
However, I struggled on Corneria in Star Fox 64 because the graphics were of lower quality, so the enemies were harder to aim at, there wasn't an option to invert the y-axis, and I kept forgetting that it wasn't inverted while aiming the laser, and the controls were more stiff, making it more difficult to turn around quickly during the Corneria boss.

When I played Star Fox 2026, the controls were accessible, and easier to get a hang of.
Every time I beat a mission, I smiled as I watched all of the Star Fox characters congratulate eachother, and I enjoyed looking at the beautiful visuals.

I didn't expect a run to be so short. Are the other starfox games just as short or are they longer?

To me the new voice acting is a mixed bag of good and bad deliveries. Most of the bad lines are the mid combat stuff, the cutscene lines seem mostly fine. They were never going to live up to it.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I mainly go on other boards but I decided to come on /v/ to talk about this game and it's nice to see that most of the discussion is on topic. No one is getting called a "Switchsnoy" or whatever retarded buzzword if they criticize the game, which it definitely deserves, even if I enjoy it. The voices and lack of feedback when shooting something are my biggest complaints, and I see I'm not the only one with issues regarding the voice acting.

It's unfortunate because the main cast does have decent sounding voice actors, but the direction just kinda sucks. They needed an improved script and to put more emotion in delivering a few lines.
The villains is where things really go to shit, it's full of bad voice actors and bad directing. Some motherfuckers are supposed to be extra hammy to be memorable.

If I had to guess, the voice director was probably afraid of the new cast doing bad impressions of the N64 dub. So they intentionally directed them to do takes that sounded more distant than the N64 one.

It did happen before with Star Fox 3DS where they brought a lot of the actors back just to read the same lines and they couldn't match their prior selves.

I'm actually liking the cutscenes more than I thought, but one thing that bothers me is how it seems like Fox is always cutting off General Pepper at the end of their discussions. I guess it's kinda funny actually but Idk. He's a merc so a salute is too much but some kind of formal goodbye would be more appropriate I think. Fox seems more rude in this remake.

I read some of the lore entries in the new game. Some of these guys had nothing to do with Andross until he started his assault. The Granga pilot is literally just a domestic terrorist who happened to have a mech when he got a call from Andross.

I like the idea that andross legitimately loves his nephew and is setting him up with the best star pilots and gear he can afford because he himself never got all the attention he wanted

What little I watched of the remake, they changed the dialog for the worst. Falco is much less of a snarky smart ass which makes him pretty boring.

My personal leaker told me not to worry about it.
I'm going to guess that maybe it will get announced in a September, October, or November mainline Direct that will cover games releasing later than Spring 2027, or it will get its own surprise Direct.
I'm guessing it will be announced in the former, and then get the latter 1-2 months before its release.

I'm putting speculating about its reveal date off to the side, and trying to and succeeding at getting invested in other franchises, like Star Fox.

Most voice acting casting and directing is done by a small handful of established VAs, contributing to the closed, circular ecosystem of most English VA work these days.
It makes sense to use experienced people in the industry to do it, but contributes to how bad things have gotten, since it's all favoritism, favors, and circle jerks.
This is why grabbing random theater and drama students doesn't really happen anymore, that threatens the closed ecosystem of VAs that are in everything now

Venom 1's medal was essentially an optional challenge, because Venom 2's medal is trivial, and nearly guaranteed as long as everyone's alive, and counts for both.
Here, Venom 1 and Venom 2 are both required, but 1 is a bit easier. Still hard though. They also made Sector Z a bit easier (because the missiles have less health, and restarts are both free and preserve your laser upgrade, so you're not fucked for the entire run if someone else steals a missile kill)
Venom 1 and Sector Z were the only absolute motherfucker medals before, so both of those being easier is probably for the best.
I think Bolse might be slightly harder now, since you kinda need Star Wolf to get it, but Star Wolf fucks your teammates raw on Bolse now, so you kinda need to be on point and murder the fuck out of them immediately.
