Please stop falling for bait and concern trolls. Realize that actual anons who enjoy indie games give appropriate feedback and not just mindless shitposting. You don't need to reply to every bait.

>AFAR: An Interactive Horror Film
Picrel. FMV inspired but more like a choose your own adventure movie, short but very replayable,
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4064520/AFAR_An_Interactive_Horror_Film/
>Dream Warrior
Retro rpg/roguelike, runs aren't super long, decent writing. Made by an anon if I'm not mistaken.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3043370/Dream_Warrior/
>Digitizer
Stupidly ambitious scifi rpg, open world with combat and vehicles and everything. Janky and buggy but with a good story. It can be frustrating but personally I love projects like these, biting off way more than they can chew but still being worthy despite the shortcomings.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1262760/Digitizer/
>Speed Rivals Slot Racing
Slot car racing game with a focus on building and sharing tracks and racing other people. Early access, but plenty of content there already.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3389390/Speed_Rivals__Slot_Racing/
>Dungeon Drops
Another anon-made game, very charming music and ms paint art. Platformer where you have to climb a tower and kill mobs to buy stuff from the store. Hard, even unfair at times, but the game is so simple and addictive that you end up not caring.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3625870/Dungeon_Drops/
>Mind Control: Bloody Renaissance
SMT-esque rpg, takes a lot of inspiration from Swery, Suda and Lynch. Especially Suda. I know they are controversial here, and so is the game's engine RPG Maker, but if you like that kind of stuff, I believe you'll like it.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2411100/Mind_Control_Bloody_Renaissance/
>The Henchmen
Full disclosure, I only played the demo of this one, but I'll get it this sale. Top down game for those who miss Hotline Miami and the early GTAs. I cannot say much more, other than it has co-op, so it has to be a fun game to play with a friend. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1431750/The_Henchmen/

Just because it doesn't have combat doesn't mean it's boring, it's about fucking around on your motorcycle in the desert climbing around and meeting people. You get out of it what you put in, same as a road trip.

That is a hell of a specific request. And how weird is it that I actually have a rec for you? Giant siege crab still counts as a vehicle, right?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1833200/DuneCrawl/

(Low Similarity Results Have Been Hidden)

There is also this, but your vehicle isn't really given that much attention, it's just a means to an end.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2218970/Plains_of_Pain/

And an even bigger stretch, where your "vehicle" is a boat.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1574900/Salt_2_Shores_of_Gold/

And the last one is this, where you pilot a spaceship and have dogfights and then disembark and loot areas and fight with your rifle and shit.

I've been thinking long and hard because my dream is to post the most obscure game ever, and this is my answer.
Shitpost point and click game with paint graphics, made by and for a community of guys who are obsessed with making fun of a Spanish youtuber who has a bit over 100k subs but has been uploading videos since 2010, he's not a celebrity or anything like that. It's a very funny game if you get the references and the commitment is insane.

>>
>>742135773
It's more of a stretch because in Salt 2 you adventure around on the islands and the sea between them is borderline an overworld, so it's hard to call it driving. I'm not aware of any reefs or storms or coves or sea monsters or any other kinds of things that will make you want to actively maneuver your boat. It's maybe a step above Starbound.
Meanwhile in Dunecrawl you actively maneuver your crab and fight on top of it, so it's much more of a bestie.
>>
>>742135992
Desperados III and Shadow Gambit by the same devs. Also look into Sumerian Six. Its a bit rougher, but gives off Strange Brigade vibes.

2D Metroidvania and top-down Zeldalike in one, you switch characters on screen and they interact with the environment either as top-down or side scrolling with gravity. Very cool idea, it's $1.59 right now.

There's nothing wrong with posting games that piss you off. In fact, it's highly preferable. The bleating of retards is a reasonably reliable indicator of quality.

When games are actually bad, no one needs to say anything. It's self evident. You don't need to say it because everyone can tell for themselves.

Ghost at Dawn is the Scariest, Them and Us is the longest although Echoes of the Living might steal that once the second campaign is released. Greek Tragedy has the best plot. Tartarus Key has no enemies. Hardest, uh, maybe Heavy Metal Death Can. Fear the Timeloop had a hard final boss too but they nerfed it I think.

Played a few Balatro Scrabble likes and none of them quite clicked with me. Randomly found this one and after playing the demo it immediately clicked with me.
Pretty niche but it still feels like it should get more attention based on the amount of effort put into it. I'll be satisfied if I get one person to try the demo, just to say I did something to help it out.

Of course it is, true indies are the best kinds of games. Independent means by yourself, no help from others. It's basic vocabulary. Not to say games made by multiple people can't be good, they sometimes are, but I am mostly an indie games fan.

saw a few posted already but requesting singleplayer collectible card games, ideally ones where the cards can be collected in multiple ways (through playing the card game, exploring the world, purchase, doing quests, etc.). basically there should be a world outside of just playing a card game (only one that comes to mind is some parts of inscryption).

I don't mind if the rec isn't necessarily "hidden" as I haven't really played one of these in a while and I'm assuming there aren't many of them

I alone have the power to find hidden gems the natural way. No one spoonfeeds me gems, all the gems in these threads filter down from my recommendations.

I'm like an explorer who maps uncharted territory. You're'll casuals who get told where to go. When I play video games, the walkthroughs are still unwritten. I find my way to the end all alone.

Rogue Zodiacs I think is one of those games that's a bit too crunchy for its own good. Siralim Ultimate is also extremely crunchy but in a way that mostly plays itself. Also note that it does not support controllers and it's not really setup in a way to make keybinds possible to play in a reasonable fashion.

I generally recommend >>742148794 over it because it's similarly as deep if you get really into it but not in a tedious way and doesn't blast you up front with it.

I feel like <1K reviews is such a shit metric. I mean, maybe you guys are all built different, but even <10K is still pretty firmly an obscure game even for someone who posts on /v/. It also just places the emphasis on finding games with the least reviews possible, rather than actual gems.

I think the actual reality is that most games posted in these threads really aren't that good. That said, I really don't see what a better alternative is. In the long run its probably the best they get some kind of attention I guess, even if its as fleeting being stuck in a list of 10 steam store links.

>10K is still pretty firmly an obscure game even for someone who posts on /v/
For reference, games like Everhood or Look Outside would potentially meet your criteria of a 'hidden gem'. I like these games, but they've mostly already found their audience and will grow naturally as a result of that. If you can't find a game that's under 1k reviews that you like enough to share, then how can you say that you're truly one of the few people to know about it? That's really the intent here, not just to share games you like but games you like that nobody else has seen or played yet.

It looks worse than it is because it's more condensed but the usual thing of people having to work hard to get all achievements and general complaints about grinding which is kinda the point of the game. I will say you can also get a key for it cheap if you want to save more money than the sale price but the dev does seem to be sticking with bug fixes and did a big content update earlier this year including controller support if you do want to support them.

Hey thanks to the anons recomending Haunting Lands and Tower of Kalemonvo both are really good.
As always Im gonna shill my picks
>Worlds and End of Dyesus
https://store.steampowered.com/app/304850/Worlds/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1304400/The_End_of_Dyeus/
Both made by the same French dev, Worlds is Metal Gear+Madness Combat with a weird plot and very cool levels. Some of the secrets are very well hidden and some puzzles are hard but worth the price and End of Dyeus is a first person adventure game with a guy stuck in a weird land after everybody got wipe out by a weird out of world cult
>Rum & Gun
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1210800/Rum__Gun/
A Tongue-in-cheek Pirate themed Diablo clone. Its fun, you can play it multiplayer and a good selection of weapons and builds.
>Loria
https://store.steampowered.com/app/946660/Loria/
Its a free Warcraft 2 clone with a campaign, good time waster and plays homage well enough to be enjoyable
>Arthurian Legends
https://store.steampowered.com/app/658890/Arthurian_Legends/
A modern take on Witchaven but actually good. Its a medieval oldschool FPS trying to kill the Wizard fucking the land. Lots of weapons, magic and items.
>Granvir
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2743460/Granvir/
A very good roguelite 3rd person/first person Mech game with hundreds of parts (torsos, arms, legs, guns, melee and backpack items) Its five campaigns so far of you trying to save a system under attack. You can play it singleplayer or co-op. The dev keeps adding weapon parts and body parts each week.
>Airships: Conquer the Skies
https://store.steampowered.com/app/342560/Airships_Conquer_the_Skies/
A 2d airship builder similar to Highfleet but more focus on the wargame focus a la Total War. Lots of weapons, armor types, decals and vehicles alongside bonus for your kingdom and you can slowly build a mighty fleet. Lots of mods too.
The DLC adds commanders and Administrators with skills and spells to the game.
>>
>>742177760
The name really holds it back though. Would have been better if the nsfw patch put that in at best.
>>
>>742178918

>But this was just one of the reasons you "won't" buy a game. Just say it's UE5 goyslop for goyim, since you'd never be a goy.
Why did you put "won't" in quotation marks? I refunded it and wrote a negative review. And why would I talk about UE5 when I care more about bad content than bad optimization? Yes, late unreal engine is shite and most devs can't code on it, but even a poorly optimized game can be good once in a while. Troon games cannot be.

It's a game where you have your playable character and a ship. Your job is to do procedural roguelite-esque missions, collecting more resources unlocking more ships, and as of the last update unlocking different kinds of procedurally generated weapons and ship components.

Gameplay is you pilot your ship while trying to keep it afloat. It's a bit like FTL, sometimes fires will break out, sometimes components will get damaged, and you will need to take care of those. Between space battles you also do on-foot missions where you use your own character, it plays like a bog standard but surprisingly competent FPS.

There are 3 ships, one of them is basically built for solo/low crew runs, another is okay at it, and the last one was basically made to be properly staffed. The problem is in solo you will be facing fewer ship breakdowns so you'll just have less FTL to play with, but it's still more or less enjoyable. I never play games that are strictly coop. I even buy lethal-likes only on the condition that they are playable offline by myself.

Some warnings: The game isn't balanced right now, and the devs are kinda retarded. They made diamond solid dogfighting and FPS "gamefeel" that actually feels genuinely smooth, but they can't code a grenade throwing arc (I'm not kidding), and the game might have body types. It doesn't say that outright, it just gives you two models to pick from and "masculine/feminine" voices, and the fact that it doesn't outright call it body types is the only reason I didn't refund it, because that's just barely enough for me to give the benefit of the doubt, but I'm letting you know just in case.

D&D Tower of Doom
D&D Shadow Over Mystara

Dismantled is an amazing game, right up until the the last area where the difficulty ramps up x5 and the game decides that having 20 flying enemies gang up on you, followed by 20 more you cant even see, was a good idea. Imagine if Resident Evil in the lab, suddenly started having DMC5 enemies, thats pretty much what happens in this game.

It's quite good. It has a bad stigma because of the developer's previous game being feministic and using the tired old identical twins thing. So less people gave it a chance than they should. It's surprisingly good and it had some fantastic moments that I can't tell you about but it was scary the first time it happened.

It is also the greatest film adaptation of The Monk that there ever was, which is amazing. They didn't use an imaginary book as inspiration for their in-game movies, they used the Monk which was released in 1796. For one of them anyway.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monk

It had an excellent soundtrack too.

A very surprising game overall, absolutely do not check spoilers or trailers or anything. I haven't even really scratched the surface of what that game has hidden.

Demon's Souls specifically. Nexus hub, world isn't connected but the three levels of each area are, healing consumables instead of an estus equivalent.

Main selling points are the sheer customization and having mech movement in a soulslike. For being the dev's first non-VN they did a pretty good job with level design too, especially considering Souls doesn't normally involve jumping hovering or airdashes. Most levels will reward you for creative movement and paying attention to your surroundings. Weapon balance isn't great, but probably still better than launch AC6.

The Vectrex/vector graphics look was the visual inspiration, yes, but sadly they're all regular raster images in the engine itself.

>bloom, ghosting, etc
It was a consideration when I did early R&D, but my conclusion was it would've been too much to add on to building the game itself, and, in retrospect, I don't think it would've worked with how some of the art pieces had to be assembled in the engine.

But for the sequel? I might try again.

3 and 4 both do the same thing as well in terms of campiness… but I think mechanically 5 is a better entry point for the genre. 3 is very rough around the edges in terms of action standards. It’s a bit like recommending Quake as someone’s first FPS to see if they’d like the genre. No shade on Quake but it’s so far removed from the modern conventions of the genre it’s almost something else entirely. DMC3 was a forerunner to the genre but it’s very dated. A cool game, but I don’t think it’s really representative of action gaming as a whole, and I think you could like the genre a lot but not really discover that appreciation due to a bad experience with DMC3 as your first title.
>>
>>742218172

>It’s a bit like recommending Quake as someone’s first FPS to see if they’d like the genre. No shade on Quake but it’s so far removed from the modern conventions of the genre it’s almost something else entirely.
This is something I wish more people understood.
I remember when I had tried getting into sRPGs, and an anon basically demanded I play Dragon Force first because "it's the best one ever and it does everything right, it's the epitome of the genre": I frankly ended up hating it, I'm sure it's a phenomenal game but it was also quite overwhelming and clunky for someone that wasn't used to it. Fortunately someone else eventually came around and recommended an easier starting point (FE7) and it's been smooth sailing since, by now I must've finished a fuckton of sRPGs from all eras and subgenres and I'm sure I'll eventually go back and give DF a try.
Regardless, I guess I had always misunderstood its campiness as unintentional in all my brief interactions with it, and it always came across as one of those weird Jap games that take themselves way too seriously and try really hard to be mature and srs bzns.
I see now, I was wrong, and I'll pick up both it and Assault Spy. Thanks again!

>and it always came across as one of those weird Jap games that take themselves way too seriously and try really hard to be mature and srs bzns.
They cast Power Rangers as the lead actors for a reason. It takes itself as seriously as any Sentai show. It’s basically Kamen Rider but with demons. It has its serious moments, to be sure, but at its heart it’s far more Xena: Warrior Princess than John Wick.

There’s a reason /v/‘s favorite description of Dante is “Wacky Woohoo Pizza Man”

Very few, sadly, most new tactics games lean towards nuXCOM.

>Tactical RPG with cool story. The plot made me think a lot about the way the player and the in-game characters are related to each other. First game that did that since Bioshock.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1117880/Biolab_Wars/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1232810/Savage_Halloween/
>Cool shoot'em ups from three-man team from Brazil. Biolab Wars is more like a test game that can be completed in half an hour, but still solid. Savage Halloween is full on though, with three hours of gameplay, an option to play in co-op and so on. Done in the retro way, so if you like arcade classics, try these one out. You might find them way easy though, compared to some coin squeezer from the 90's. Savage Halloween does have something named Extreme Difficulty or something though, but I didn't try it myself. Frankly, I was fine with the difficulty these games offer.

>Small Saga
don't do it anon. Don't fall in the trap. The dev trooned out midway through development and put a bunch of faggot/troon shit starting literally right past the refund window. It's a 8 hour game anyway, but still not worth your hard-earned money
>>
>>742236095
In 2 you have proper character creation and you play as just a normal person. The dev mentioned wanting to add a main story with a "win" condition for those who aren't okay with doing the sandbox forever (which is the intended gameplay), but there are no details on that.

TL;DR: It's not a villain game like 1.

>>742218253

>All white guys except for one woman
It's a double-edged sword, they're LA-tier white guys. Their (male) community manager may or may not have a nose ring, and he apologized on one of the streams for accidentally assuming a user's gender. On the other hand their game director (the guy on the floor) doesn't seem to be that gay. Mispronounced some german's name on stream and was like "Eh, whatever". They're walking on the knife's edge for me, personally.

And (this should go without saying but still) this kind of gay retard shit reflects in the quality of the game. One day they have something rock solid that plays and runs extremely well, the other day they break everything, ruin everything, and the game tanks to 20 FPS and stutters every other second. And then another day they fix it and add something decent again. The dev cycle is a rollercoasting and you just gotta hope you're too drunk to feel the parts of the railing that the fags designed.
>>
>>742245194
In my experience, any game that requires you to focus "long-term" is very frustrating to play at work. You need something you can drop AND pick up at the drop of a hat.

Lost Castle 2 has been pretty nice for that because I only really need moment-to-moment concentration, seeing as my core gameplay doesn't really change throughout the game.

Sephiria might offer you a similar deal, but it's a bit more of a bother because of the "backpack manager" inventory system that needs you to micromanage it. Try the demo before buying.

And when I'm really not in the mood, I just fire up Atlyss and post obscenities in multiplayer lobbies. That's basically my main "at work" game.

>Gedonia 1 and 2
If you don't mind store-bought assets and massive, downright tremendous amounts of jank. They look bad but I find them endearing.

>Swords n' Magic And Stuff
Cute-looking open world game, dev said he wants it to be the kind of open world you can "live in".

>Soulash 2
Probably doesn't count as a hidden gem cause 2k reviews, but it's extremely sandboxy.

>Keplerth
Also 2k reviews, but most of them are probably chinks. It's a Terraria-like that suffers in the exploration department and has rather stiff combat but also has a really good character-building system. It has a pretty slow beginning but gets pretty fun towards mid-late game because you start unlocking cool perks to build your character with.

it's harvest moon but in a high-fantasy world of magic, alien-like races and monster taming.

I can't get into other harvest moon clones like stardew valley, but likes this a lot
>>
>>742262164
It looks like it has a lot of adventuring and fighting, is that the case? I tried Stardew Valley and found it insufferable on account of how devoid of danger it was. There were the mines, but they were a throwaway side activity. I wanted to be a career fighter, with the farming and the gathering and the wife and the kids being something to come back to after a long day of cracking skulls and cutting throats.

The farming sim is just a smaller part of the game. it's about exploring the world and taming monsters to help you do it.

I saw some anon post this medieval looking game that had a female character, it looked like an old 80s mac game but it was also pretty gory.
