Which is the best N64 game by Rare?
>>
>>742272773
Conker's Bad Fur Day
>>
>>742272773
Perfect Dark and Banjo-Tooie but /v/ isn't ready for that conversation yet.
>>
DK64
>>
>>742272773
Mickey's Speedway USA
>>
>>742272773
Is Mickey's Speedway any good? I never played that one.
>>
>>742272773
Banjo 1 easily
>>
>>742273438
>>742273516
It's okay but I would not recommend to 100% it, there is a video that goes in depth to it, but the difficulty curve goes so high late game that the only reason you are allowed to win is because the NPCs aren't able to native the last course without failing and crashing over and over
>>
>11 games on N64
>only 1 on Gamecube (Star Fox Adventures)
That's a shame
>>
>>742273847
>because the NPCs aren't able to navigate the last course*
I meant to say
>>
>>742272773
goldeneye invented fps, so that one.
>>
>>742272773
>highest consistent quality
Banjo Kazooie
>biggest technical achievement
Conker's Bad Fur Day
>>
>>742272773
Goldeneye by far. Blast Corps is my second favorite, and it may be the second best. I haven't played through all of Bad Fur Day.
>>
>>742272773
Diddy Kong Racing
It's the least horrible of the bunch.
>>
>>742272773
conker
diddy kong
perfect dark
>>
>>742272773
Banjo-Tooie, don't let the ADD zoomers dissuade you otherwise.
>>
>>742273516
It's good, the last cup is very hard and those ghost tokens are also pretty tough but it feels satisfying to beat imo.
The items are whack though (not because they're busted but because they dont work like they should).
>>
>>742272773
DK64 was the only one I played and I liked it
>>
Jet force gemini>Banjo Tooie>Perfect dark>DK64>Banjo Kazooie>Pdiddykong racing>Goldeneye
>>
>>742272773
DKR for sure. It's the only game there that kind of aged well.
>>
>>742272773
My ranking best to worst
Banjo
Diddy Kong Racing
007
Jet force gemini
perfect dark
Dk64
Banjo Tooie
Conker
Blast corps
Killer instinct
Never played Mickeys Speedway
>>
>>742272773
None of them. The N64 was a bad console with zero good games. The Sega Saturn would have won that generation if Sony hadn't illegally sold PS1s at a loss.
>>
Going by the impact the game had it's Goldeneye and it's not even close.
>>
Tooie under the lens of being a Metroidvania instead of a 3D Platformer is probably the best the longer I think about it. It barely has any real platforming challenges, it completely fails as a platformer.
>>
>>742272773
Diddy Kong Racing is my favorite, easy.
>>
Diddy Kong Racing was great. Different vehicle types and boss battles and unlockables. It was ahead of its time.
>>
>>742272773
Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Diddy Kong racing, Conker.
>>
>>742272773
Conker.
Goldeneye is utter garbage. No comment on perfect dark. Gemini is garbage too for gunplay just like goldeneye, back tracking for carebares do not help.

Others are tendie shit or whatever.
>>
>>742272773
Either DK64 or Tooie.
DK64 is peak comfy level design.
Tooie also has a very nice vibe too it, both have amazing soundtracks.

Conkers is very nice too but is a bit of a clusterfuck sometimes in terms of where the hell you're going at any given moment lol. Also relies a lot on movie classics.
>>
>>742272773
Perfect dark
>>
>>742272773
Tooie>kazooie>dk64
Im indifferent to the rest or didnt play them
>>
the one I like most is Diddy Kong Racing. It combines the wild combat racer style of Mario Kart 64 with that 3D platformer style hub world of games like Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, Gex: Enter the Gecko

kind of a unique concept of fusing those elements, I don't think I've seen another game do that
>>
>>742272773
Wow this is kind of not very good of a lineup.
I played HFG which was one of the worst games I ever played and DKR which is top of the line kart racer.
>>
>>742289827
Retard.
>>
>>742272773
>>742273221
i used to take out the cartidge when berri was on screen and stuck my dick into the slot to fuck her
>>

Uh oh banjo diapershitter melty.
>>
Perfect Dark has always been over rated
>>
>>742290362
American, too. Should've known.

Conker > Mickey's Speedway USA > Goldeneye > DKR > Banjo > Tooie > Blast Corps > Killer Instinct > Jet Force Gemini > Perfect Dark > DK64
Top 6 are just good games. Blast Corps is a lot of fun except for the Backlash which fucking sucks. KI is an okay fighting game. JFG is a 5/10. Perfect Dark is a great game that should never have been on an N64, the XBLA version is excellent. DK64 has too many collectibles even for a game about collecting stuff.
>>
>>742278132
As another anon once pointed out. I called it "blast corpse" as a kid and I'll never stop calling it that.
>>
>>742272773
Banjo Kazooie is the most all around fun, you can pick it up and play any level and it's a blast.

Conker and DK64 are the most visually impressive, just amazing western cartoonism. I miss the era where devs where trying to cram so many different gameplay styles into one game... platformer, shooter, puzzle game, racing game, etc.

But Jet Force Gemini is my favorite, despite having some design flaws, just because it's one of the most unique takes on sci fi. It's chunky and cartoony, but not as much as banjo. It's so much fun to explore Rareware styled alien worlds. Just an amazing sense of hit feedback and juice in this game.

DIDDYKONG RACING

>as a retard said
>i am also a retard
Time to play with your blocks.
>>
Easily 007 Goldeneye.

You just had to be there. Hundreds... possibly thousands of hours put in local multiplayer in a basement with a 24 pk of mt dew and no bed time
>>
>>742272773
Conker is the most technologically impressive game, but it's also absolute dogshit as an actual game.
>>
>>742272773
Perfect Dark
>>
Conker, both Banjo games, Diddy Kong Racing, DK64, GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. Pretty damn good track record all in all.
>>
>>742291364
Jet Force Gemini is better on Rare Replay.
>>
>>742272773
how the fuck did they make so many games in the span of 4 years
>>
>>742272773
Donkey Kong 64

>Learned the hardware far better than Nintendo
>Had the drive to actually make games and competed with other Rare teams
>Games weren't terribly expensive to develop compared to now
>>
>>742272773
Tooie > Kazooie > DK64 >:Conker > PD > DKR > JFG > Goldeneye > Blast Corps >KI Gold

The only one I havent played is Mickey Speedway but that game looks like a lesser Diddy Kong Racing so I doubt itd be higher than last place. Any other order is wrong and contrarian.
>>
>>742293283
It's a damn shame that kind of dev environment can't really exist now unless maybe you're indie but even then stuff like silksong and mina took several years

All Rare games have a larger than life feel to them. Even the more realistic ones like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. As devs, it feels like they embraced the whimsy and magic of video games. All of their games are all about fun, simple gameplay, with exaggerated feedback and juice. Everything is big, chunky, loud, and extremely readable.

Once the 6th gen hit and the ability to make more "realistic" games emerged, the entire western games industry shifted towards realism, giving us the "brown" era onto AAA ultra realism today. Japan, didn't shift, and have always kept their games more colorful and stylized.

So now we have the gaming landscape of today, where AAA western devs are shitting out the same ultra realistic games distilled down into a format, Japan is still messing around with stylized graphics, but with their anime influence... but there is nobody like Rare... a western developer creating fun games that embrace stylized, western cartoonism and exaggeration to amplify and embrace the "gaminess" of video games.

jet force gemini could have been goated if there were a few tweaks to it
>>
descending order

golden eye

tooie
kazooie
bad fur day
blast corps
gemini
killer instinct
dk 64

Bear and bird of course
>>
>>742294983
this image bothered me as a kid because of the way you see his claws in the silhouette like they were probably peeled off on the way down
>>
>>742294301
At times it's the best looking Rare game, and then other times it looks like shit. Some hit and miss art pieces in there. Conker wins just because it's more exaggerated and uniform.
>>
>>742272773
Diddy Kong Racing
>>
Out of curiosity, to those who like Tooie more then Kazooie: Why?
I dunno, I think they're both fine but Tooie is loaded with a real mixed bag of mini games that are entirely forgettable at best and annoying/y tedious at worst.

I'm probably biased because I was the perfect age for these games when they came out. There was no "genres" or analysing gameplay mechanics. Just amazing worlds to explore. Tooie is probably the most hype I've ever experienced for a game and it blew my little wig clean off. It felt HUGE and the tone was a little uneasy like the first day of school in the spring which made it feel exciting.
Replaying them as an adult I appreciate what people say about Kazooie being a tighter experience and as someone with a little less imagination and a schedule to keep it is nice to blast through a game so clean and quick, but I don't find Tooie suffers for having so much to do and the sprawling interconnected levels make a believable if surreal world. Again, I'm obviously biased because these games were such a media milestone in my life so I can't say for sure but I have a hard time accepting that it isn't a great game.
>>
>>742273919
Well thats because they were actively being bought out at the end of the N64s life. They're lucky they even got that one game out.
