They like the bright colors, they like the exaggerated proportions, they like the melodrama, they like the plot being universal good vs universal evil. Situations like this had me terrified through my teens that I would wake up one day having grown out of all games and nerd stuff.
When I was 13, one of my friends at school was talking about the game and I said, "Sounds like it's for faggots" then later on when I went over to his house for his birthday, I got a chance to play it and I was hooked. I feel zero shame for liking it nor will I ever. It's been 20 years and I still really like KH1 and 2.

They have a timeless nostalgic quality to them, and I say this as someone who never played the first two games (and CoM) until a couple of years ago.
