The tragedy of Deltarune is that it's a game meant to be about subverting expectations but because it releases episodically fan speculation causes people to believe that the story is subverting the expectations of fans as they evolve chapter to chapter. Because the story was set in stone before the decision was made to do it episodically. People expect suselle to be subverted because it was the expectation, but if the game were complete, suselle would be the subversion of expectations because we came to the game imagining that the main female character would be our love interest. At least that's how I think Toby probably sees it.
