It's time to stop using Don Mattrick and the Xbone as a scapegoat as to why Xbox failed, they had 13 years and billions of dollars to sort their shit out. The truth is that Microsoft is just an incompetent retarded company.
The truth is xbox was never good.
Everything good Xbox did was a fluke, they've been famously awful to work with since the very start. They literally let Bungie slip to their fingers by being so terrible to work with, the developer who literally saved Xbox.
>>742300372When you have a trillion dollars, you don't have to be good. You can just brute force your way for decades.
>>742300372Don Mattrick was never anything more than a symptom of Microsoft's failure. The original xbox and the first half of the 360 were so successful because Microsoft cared more about long term marketshare than short term profits. However this strategy is not popular with investors so they changed course at the absolute worst time and ruined their reputation by chasing after moneymaking gimmicks.
>>742301167Xbox One was the system they always wanted to make. They got into gaming because Bill Gates wanted to "take over your living room" and the console was a trojan horse to get inside your house. That famous presentation where he talked about connecting to your cable box and watching sports and barely mentioned video games, that was always what they really wanted.
Wasn't the Wii U an even bigger failure than the Xbox One? And then Nintendo released their most successful console ever afterwards. The problems with Xbox clearly go way deeper than Don Mattrick or Phil Spencer
>>742300372Matrick shares about 70% of the blame (with the other 30% being the MBA brainlets in Microsoft trying to position the Xbox as an 'all in one entertainment device'), but the damage was so severe that it killed the console forever and relegated it to a perpetual Luigi spot behind Sony's Mario.Like Phil said, 'we lost the console race in the most important time in console race history.' PS3 had also fumbled bad with Sony being arrogant, so this was the best time for MS to grab a bigger slice of the pie, and they totally fucked it up.And that retard having his 'we have a system for people like that (who want to play older games): it's called the Xbox 360' moment on live TV didn't help.
>>742301430The issue is that they were one generation too early to pull that shit. If the Xbone were just a more powerful 360 they would have enough users invested in the xbox digital game ecosystem that they could get away with being faggots with minimal repercussions, just like Sony is doing now. They pulled themselves out of the race shortly before the finish line and are wondering why they aren't making money.
Sony is just about as retarded these days the only difference is they have a dedicated cult
>>742300372>let's copy the wii which was a failure >our Webcam is online all the time
>>742302165That honestly makes it even more embarrassing, Sony gave them so many easy wins but Xbox just cant stop stepping on every rake there is
Mattrick was the icing to the cake of why Xbone bombed.
He was pretty bad but yea Phil had a ton of time to save Xbox and most of it is just failures. Don Mattrick had employees spying on customers with Kinect though so he isn't a good president.
Mattrick followed Microsoft's original intent for the system, Spencer's "netflix of games" idea was his own blunder.
>>742300372Fuck off, Don
The core issue with Xbox is that Microsoft just never truly cared, they never needed Xbox, they just wanted to plant their fat ass in an emerging market to take up space and make money, Xbox exists because they wanted to push DirectX on people. Both Sony and Nintendo actually need gaming, Microsoft doesn't and it shows, they simply do not give a fuck. They're perfectly happy to just burn gaming down if it means nobody else gets it, this has always been Microsoft's strategy, they inject their trash into a system until they either win or kill the host.
