>Only 3% of Sony's 2024 sales were physical games

So... why is discs going away supposed to be a bad or even shocking thing?

Statistically speaking, no one cared about physical anymore. It's a negligible loss.
>>
The percentage would be higher if they released more games

If they're hitting 3% they're counting DLC and microtransactions as the same as a game purchase and also everybody is more and more playing small indies
Show the numbers for the actual big AAA releases
>>
>>742387880
there were very few games being released in '24 and most places pretty much require preorders to get stock now, they dont buy like a dozen of every physical game and expect them to sell out
>>
>>742388180
And they're probably also counting games given away through PSN+ as "sold".
>>

>loss
can you give any evidence there was a loss in physical distribution?
>>
>people are buying shitty old games for $2 each when they're on special so lets make all $70 new releases digital only!
>>
>>742387880
Statistically speaking, you've probably never contributed anything of value to other people's experience with video games and you're not about to start now.
>>
>>742387880
If you believe that then you're retarded.
>>
>>742387880
thing is that these statistics in favor of digital are propped up by people buying "games" like the jumping taco for $1 or decade old AAA games on sale for $2 and sony counting it the same as someone buying GTA6 for $100
>but the revenue is higher too, how do they fake that?
games with infinite spend mtx.

Physical games died with the ps4 generation. Most physical games are worthless without their day 1 patch these days.

It's not. PC gaming has been digital only for the last 15 years and it wasn't a big deal.
The only issue is that while PC has steam and GOG, Sony has a shit digital store, and I'd argue even Epic does a better job at that. Also, Sony just recently stole movies from users so they could do the same to your ps6 games.

This is a lie from industries shills to justify cutting out retailers and the second hand market. Physical is huge for PlayStation. AstroBot’s sales were 60% physical. The majority of PS5 owner paid the extra $100 goytax for a system with a disc drive. Sony executives want more control of their ecosystem so they never have to drop software prices to compete with the cheaper disc games.

OP, being a faggot, chose to propagate this lie.

Ball and gun gamers are the ones buying digital. Everyone else buys almost 50% physical.

Your numbers sound fake considering 83% of PS5s sold are the models with a disc drive. Are you suggesting people pay extra to have the ability to play physical games, then never do?
