How many songs are there? I haven’t played a Rhythm Heaven game and assumed there were a large amount of stages that you play in short bursts but then I saw a review and they seem full length.

Minigames are fun, a lot of them are mechanically better than even Fever and DS but the soundtrack and presentation are horrible. No standout tracks or memorable characters whatsoever.
Scoring is laughably lenient. You have to make an effort to actually fail any stage.
It is better than Megamix though.
>>
It's not for me. Can't get behind the new art direction and composer. Some of the games have irl stock images and it feels too out of place
>>
>>742392285
There's a lot of blunders like the sweepers true but the moon game, bug catching family, the umbrella guys, the yakuza dancers on the cars and the little guys avoiding the thunder are memorable
>>

>No memorable characters whatsoever
That's what gets me the most.
What happened to the art style? These games used to have such iconic designs. Even when you compare two simple designs that are basically just cartoon animals like picrel, it’s clear how much more fun and interesting the older ones were.
>>
Who honestly gives a shit if it isn't quite as good as Fever? Were people expecting them to catch the lightning in a bottle twice? It's more Rhythm Heaven, and it's actually new Rhythm Heaven unlike Megamix. I'll take it.
>>
The firmware on my switch is too old to install the file, god damn I'm tired of updating this shit. Can they just stop already, it's a dead console

But Hoop Trundling is only the first minigame and it has both?
>>
>>742392883
Complaining about memorability feels like a moot point right now anyway since the game literally hasn't been out for even a day. You don't get to decide something is forgettable until time passes and you either forget it or remember it.

Rhythm Doctor destroys this game. It's unreal how boring Rhythm Heaven is for a game with an actual budget. I don't get how Nintendo puts out this slop with how much money they have.

I genuinely do not even consider Rhythm Doctor the same type of game. It's far too much of its own thing. I never played Bits & Bops though.

>>
>>742392967
I liked bits&bops too but let's not pretend this game had amazing designs either. You posted the best one, otherwise the characters of the game were pretty forgettable. I remember the worms, the robot dancers, the tweeting birds and the politician game. I can name a lot more characters from Fever or DS without thinking meanwhile I had to pause just to name these
>>
>Even Rhythm Heaven is not immune to petulant whining and disingenuous comparison
Yawn. I'll go talk about this game elsewhere.

To be fair the original trailer was like a year or two before the game came out the art direction wasn't finalized. Though having said that they still used alt styles fir the samurai minigame and stuff so theres no reason they couldn't have kept this somewhere
>>

it was an early build, before they went with the homogenized nu-warioware artstyle

It was almost certainly in the game at that time but got replaced. Who knows why, maybe they thought it was too much of a departure from the original style.

Speaking as a fan you WILL definiely enjoy it. The game oozes soul. Some of the complaints I have about the game come from a position of knowledge/experience with the Rhythm Heaven series and expectations I might've had, but also from playing other similar titles that were very creative (which were posted ITT)

It's really fun. I haven't had the opportunity to try the multiplayer games yet cuz of the time, so I'm planning to give the game a try with my friends later on

The art looks kinda shit, ngl.
I feel like 240p on the 3DS screen was doing a lot of heavy lifting for the 'modern' artstyle these games use. Once it's blown up to 1080p (idk if the Switch 2 goes higher) it just looks very basic and amateurish

Okay well Remix 20 isn't too hard at all, kinda disappointing, it has some tricky speed up moments here and there (like karate joe and yum bot), but those are always expected. The final part's easy to mess up, but it's not a fake out like Fever's Remix 10.

Hardest final remix is still Fever's Remix 10 but here's a video of my first time doing Remix 20 so you can make fun of me for being a rhythmlet and an emufag
https://litter.catbox.moe/rzee2ynrukxaordh.webm
>>742406430
Neither of those for me, I think Groove's better than Megamix, and I really like that it's all new minigames, but I find myself preferring the minigames from the other games more.
Groove feels more like a Fever 2 so it's more accurate to say it's like the RH version of Move It (also I like GiT, it's fun with co-op)

20 remixes is a lot, but sadly only a few of them went for changing the visuals to make a theme which's something I liked a lot about them as part of the fun. I'm not sure why the devs didn't do that this time, since they clearly had more budget to not only make 20 remixes, but the minigames overall have way more guest songs than the usual handful.

One thing I really did like from Megamix was the challenge trains, and I wish there was some equivalent in Groove. The Lockstep Lockdown challenge is probably the hardest thing in the series.
However, I haven't started perfecting Groove's minigames, and that's where the real difficulty lies, but for now I'd rank the RH series like this unless I change my mind later:
>Overall
Fever > DS > Groove = Tengoku > Megamix
>Difficulty
DS > Tengoku > Fever > Groove > Megamix
>Music
Fever > DS > Tengoku > Groove = Megamix
>Minigames
Fever > DS > Groove > Megamix > Tengoku

One thing I really didn't like about bits & bops is some of the minigames just being outright copies of RH ones

The original appeal of it was being a spiritual successor to RH since we all assumed the series was dead, but I'm still not letting it fly since they had good ideas for their original ones so I dunno why they didn't just go all in

Yes it's bad, every game is stuck in practice mode until the literal endgame, and the new games are shit. I strongly disagree on difficulty however, inbetween the braindead minigames you get obligatory challenges, which are absolutely nightmarish, AND you have limited lives, so you go back to the start of the floor if you fuck it up three times.
>>
>>742412849
I don't really think Groove is bad, like you saw in my ratings, I placed it tied in 3rd overall and I think that's a pretty satisfactory spot.

People who have never played a RH game before will enjoy it I'm sure, but for longtime fans it plays it pretty safe so the thing we appreciate at this point are: all new minigames to keep things fresh, are the games fun enough to perfect, and is there any decent side content

I'm still happy we got a new RH at all

I'd say start with Fever, it's usually seen as the most well-regarded one for good reason.
Solid minigames, lots of charm, alright side content, and it's less difficult than GBA and DS so it's easier to get into. Can easily play on dolphin too.

I enjoy every Rhythm Heaven game but Megamix has some confusing choices. It has a LOT of padding in the form of easier versions of older Rhythm Heaven games (even ones that were tier 1 in their respective games), and then some of those games with easier versions don't even have their harder counterparts from the original games. The selection of DS games felt very lacking due to some of them being hard to adapt without a touch screen, and I think there were some notable omissions from GBA as well.
Also it made Lockstep harder to perfect for some fucking reason? I'm an odd one out in thinking Lockstep is one of the easier (and more fun) games in RHDS, but they made it so near-misses count as failures when in RHDS they were hits. I used to be able to perfect it every time but the challenge minigame that played the game over and over at increasing speeds was so hard I gave up on it
>>
I am very early in the game, i don't know how to properly explain it but hop n slide really caught me off guard, mostly with how the game presented it. I know every minigame has a bit of lore which is something I always loved since I love rhythm heaven characters but it was weird that the game went "this is X, this is their thing, hope you like it".
The girl was really cute though, even though she barely has to do with the game itself.

To B&B's credit, RH itself has its fair share of games that are copies of previous ones, with different visuals, SFX, and music but still fundamentally the same
>micro row is just munchy monk
>air rally is just spaceball
>hoop trundling is just built to scale DS
>there are like a dozen call and response games like shoot em up, first contact, tamborine, freeze frame, working dough, drummer duel, rhythm tweezers, etc
They're still good in spite of this comparison that can be drawn. I don't expect them to get crazy with polyrhythms to shake things up and explore spaces that haven't been done yet, most of the appeal is in the music itself anyway; having the same gameplay but being in waltz or swing would still be sufficient to be its own thing.

This game is much more relaxed compared to previous entries. I make easily 4-5 mistakes during the more critical parts during a stage and still get a superb ranking. Make sure to count the beats in your head or by slightly tapping with your finger on something if a game gives you trouble. Longtime fans have an easier time so most posts ITT don't reflect the perceived difficulty of the game for newcomers
>>742415957
Even with it turned off, she will speak at times like when she's congratulating you after you reach checkpoints (beating remix 8, 12 and 16 IIRC).
I liked her voice and felt bad for turning her off too at first, but I thought she ruined the atmosphere when I tried the rpg mode or went into the cafe/lounge

Besides the shitAdo song and the beep girl there's nothing memorable about the game, it's just... mid. Mediocre games, mid music (gba mogs it) , wrong era, senile developer. Also i'm pretty sure there's an AI banner for one of the songs, i think it's the alien one.

A lot of games fail you for pressing buttons outside of the prescribed charting (clappy trio for instance), just as there are a lot of games that do not care so long as you dont miss (such as karate man).
They've never really been consistent about that, aside from call&response and metronome style games being in the strict category.

You can always try the demo.
Plus if you can handle a little latency you could emulate the older games.
The appeal of the series is the music and unlike its competition you dont have to autistically sightread read a chart that may as well be sheet music. Its about reacting to sound cues and keeping in beat.

TV Latency is only an issue on HDMI, which the Wii didn't support. Try playing Fever on a WiiU and you will immediately notice how off it is. People don't want to admit it but HD displays are arguably what killed people's pleasure in playing fighters and rhythm games. Even if you can adjust latency you can't be so precise as to tune it perfectly and the visuals will suffer in every case. This is why I am playing this game exclusively in handheld mode.

They explicitly didn't use it beyond a simple tapping mode. A lot of songs in RHDS used flicking or something more unique (e.g. Love Lizards, Rockers) and those were either changed to tapping/holding or the games weren't adapted at all.

HOW IS THE RPG MODE?

Pretty fun. It incentivizes hitting the notes percisely on beat kinda like Megamix's challenges.

It's really good, I just wish it was a bit longer. The story feels sort of like a tutorial that adds more and more stuff to learn, but you don't get to try everything until you unlock the random dungeon mode. An endless mode would have been nice.

I like it so far. I don't know why they made it seem shorter than it actually was

On the perfect border, Hearts on the left side show the tries at that minigame, the tally marks on the right show how many plays in other games before it dissapears
