Once it's gone, you can't get it back, which is why Asgore wasn't ever taken in by it.I do feel like that was the overarching narrative 'purpose' of CH5 (and Fox said it themselves): the happy adventures are over. Susie puts it reasonably correctly when she's saying 'this can't just be a fun little thing with us two, it's too serious, people are getting hurt, nothing can go back to the way it was' (except her solution is, naturally, totally wrong). I do 100% agree it's a much more raw look at the characters when they're pushed a little/not trying so hard to be 'nice'. Susie can be a callous jerk, Ralsei could burn it all down but doesn't want to for fear of what might happen instead, Noelle desperately wants to be free but can't do it herself, yadda yadda.
