It’s not because they can’t but because it’s not financially viable for them. Sony tried then saw that once on PC, no one gave a shit about their games and they dropped in perceived value. Thats all it is. Locking things up to inflate value. It wasn’t the content itself that made these exclusives valuable but the fact you couldn’t play it elsewhere.

>Now things get PC ports
PC versions are always different from console versions, and usually inferior. If you had the choice 20 years from now you'd be emulating a console version of a game from the time because it would have things like more voice samples that weren't removed in a patch, music that wasn't removed in a patch, unique lighting effects, fine tuned support for a feature like touch pads or gyro which the PC version never supported except in hacky half broken fan patches.

Console verisons are always superior, PC ports are generally not worth preserving.

>>
>>742419018
everyone is just going to wait for a sale and amass a digital library of games that they will never play and create a bigger monopoly which isn't even good because steam has an idiotic review process where there's no appeal like in the case of dungeon travelers 2. you can't even "support" the dev because sony takes 30 dollars out of hundred dollar games. so you're either paying sony for the shit store, or steam which funded proton, a translation layer for linux to run games better. I wonder which camp to support. no brainer unless you are an idiot. can't remember the last time sony actually made games or didn't hold them hostage like freedom wars and such.

Normalfags don't know what DRM is or why they should be against it. They don't realize that a physical copy of a game with DRM on it is just as useless to them as streaming. The pro-physical movement is overwhelmingly made up of dumbasses engaging more with retro aesthetics than caring about consumer rights.

That's because games have been a digital medium since it's very conception unlike music, books or movies. "physical" is just a way of distribution of the digital product.

>>
>>742421398

>>742431131
this has always been the case.
>disks
will eventually rot, need to create an 'illegal' copy to preserve the game
>old carts
have a built in battery that powers a SRAM chip to save your data, once that runs out your save is gone.
need to create an 'illegal' copy to preserve the game
>modern carts, and the prior two
are limited to their closed ecosystem console/handheld, once those are defunct the games can no longer be played. need to create an 'illegal' copy to preserve the game

"digital" as faggots like to complain about, is ironically the best way to preserve games because digital games can easily be stored on an HDD/SSD thats not limited to a closed ecosystem console, and can simply be moved between computers at will.
>>
>>742431158

You do realize that SSD/HDD have limited lives too right? They don't just last "le forever." Optical HDD discs from everday use last 3-5 years due to wear and tear and you have the major issue with Bit rot as the magnetic charges the data is stored on decay literally like disc rot causing corrupted files. This is also dependant on use.

A high-quality pressed disc can retain data for 10 to 20 years (or even up to 100 years for specialized archival "M-Discs" assuming these companies invested in this).
SSD depends on how much you write into them but an unpowered SSD sitting completely undisturbed in a drawer will typically retain its data safely for 1 to 3 years before data corruption (bit rot) begins and also applies to m.2 drives and all this is made worse the more heat is put onto the SSD.
The enemy to these things is quite literally time and physics, unlike their analog counterparts like DVDs-CD, despite the cope.
The solution for physical was to just Move to the superior and large storage holding M-Discs (upwards of 100gb) that can last longer than any SSD and doesn't rot. There's even say that some versions can go up to a tb but idk if that's even true.

Okay but I have music CD's from the 80's that work fine, I have a PSone with 30 year old games that work fine, I have a gamecube with 20 year old games that also work fine. What do you even mean by a "high-quality pressed disc"? When clearly discs last a lot longer.

Idk why your be combative with me because I agree with you. Discs in general are sturdy, I was refering to High quality pressed disc as an example archival purposes as many claim that HDD/SSD can outlast an anolog counterpart or if not act like it does and flaunted it around when Sony announced they were moving away from physical

People keep saying this but one my PC HDDs has been chugging along for over a decade now just fine. I'm convinced this is some bullshit to explain why new parts break so quickly.

I have like 10 year hard drive still kicking? So i’m not sure where these numbers are coming from

>buy 1(one) physical game for 10 bucks
>its worth 5 bucks used
>Buy 1k digital games for 60 bucks a pop
>its worth 0 bucks used

Combative? I'm just confused by the claim "high quality pressed discs can retain data for 10 to 20 years".
