That's fairly common. The real confusing things is things that take the same ammo and the same barrel length doing different damage

That's just how many good bullets you found in the middle of a pack abandoned outside.

the only game i can think of with this trope is HL2 where they make the smg( an mp7) have 9mm ammo

I actually really like when you lose unused ammo on reload. Adds something you have to pay attention to while fighting instead of mindlessly spamming the reload button whenever possible. I think Mafia's classic difficulty is the only one I can think of currently

Scavenging for ammo in early System Shock 2 was a pain.

Based, but they should use a mag queue instead. It would result in funny moments.

Ammo is stupid anyway.
>pistol rounds
>commonly sold in boxes of 50, good for 3-7 full mags depending on capacity plus change
>shotgun shells
>sold in weird 5 (not even a tube full in most shotguns), 10 (one tube + change), or 25 shell boxes
>rifle ammo
>commonly sold in 20 round boxes, not even enough for a single magazine unless you're in a cuck state, using an M16A1 in 'nam in the 70s, or for some reason have a bolt action that uses 5.56 or 5.45
>>742430891
They do use the exact same bullets, anon.

Where does she get the brass for the casing?
Where does she get the chemicals for the powder & primer?
Where does she get the lead and/or steel for the bullets?
>>
>>742434692
Barrel length does not affect velocity THAT much as a % of the total.
>>
>>742433893
bait but I'll bite. iirc you need 0.9 humans completely drained to make 1 gram of iron. And to refine that to steel you need a coke furnace (not the drug) and probably waste some of that in the process.
9mm bullet weights something like 8 grams so go figure.

This is actually pretty normal, gunvirgin. I used to use three 15-round magazines for my past job, so I needed 46 bullets. So I buy a 50-round box of hollowpoints, and that leaves a box of 4 bullets. Same with my qual-days; the course of fire uses 48 bullets, so I'm left with a box of 2 bullets until I can get out to the range.
>>
>>742435547
i thought we were making a game
>>
I want a game where you have a "loose ammo" bag that basically holds an unlimited amount of loose rounds but it doesn't visually keep track of how much you have of each caliber. So it takes time (plus random chance) to search for the caliber you want. Bigger calibers are easier to find since they stand out more. Of course if there's only one caliber stored inside then you instantly have access to it.
Gives a reason to keep ammo boxes to help organize ammo with the trade off being quick access vs total storage (since part of the box itself would be taking up space).

>>742434914
It can, depending on the caliber and barrel length. For example, 5.56 going from 16" to 20" gives you like a 500 fps increase. That's fucking huge.

Realistic guns in video games would be a pain in the ass.
>>
>>742427323
Limited ammo makes games really boring and tedious.
Blasting is fun, running out of bullets constantly is fucking lame. The survival horror genre is fucking lame.

you will never run out of ammo in non indie survival horrors
you can blast your way through any classic RE or silent hill

you're right, it's simply impossible to make an item of 3 bullets actually look like 3 bullets without making the game incredibly boring and tedious

im sorry if you run out of ammo in resident evil your just fucking blasting your shotgun into walls repeatedly
and silent hill has such overpowered melee weapons you dont even need your guns outside of bosses
