Older games benefitted from there being less games over all. So communities where bigger and stronger. Now games are seen as disposable media you consume and move on the next. So even the newest biggest games, the ones with everyone hyped up for have maybe a 2-3 year life span
>>742453559https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfMn7UfZzGcI do miss it, spent the majority of fifteen years there, but I look at what its become since i left at the end of legion and just leave it as a memory...

I played retail from launch to end of TBC. Played a couple of TBC private servers a while ago. I'm thinking about getting my 3 gaming friends to play WoW on vanilla private server and we level as a group. They've never played games like it before, is that a good idea? I'm thinking we all start as human and the goal will be to finish Deadmines, then decide if we want to go any further.I feel like explaining the game mechanics and stopping them making retarded mistakes will take up a lot of my time.
I often listen to the vanilla music and cry.
>>742453559You posted it, specifically the version of the world maps that ruined it.
If you wanted to remake wow with current visual standards players expect it'd cost half a billion
>>742457770All that sovl lost, like tears in rain
>>742457861And it would add absolutely nothing to the game experience, in fact it would take away
>>742457861No one would want that though, the artstyle is part of what makes WoW timeless.
>>742457339I never want to see a furbolg again for the rest of my natural life
Fun fact, Kalimdor alone is larger than the worldspaces of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.

You can't recreate the feeling of interacting with other unhinged geeks and nerds on the early 2000's internet, before gaming went to shit, when Warcraft still had promise, when MMO's still had a chance to become something deeper than an endless treadmill of grinding
/spit
>>742456306Communities were largely filled with people that actually engage with the subject of their own volition. Smartphones and social media brought along a metric ton of posers and basically annihilated subcultures as a concept.
>>742459454>You can't recreate the feeling of interacting with other unhinged geeks and nerds on the early 2000's internetMost people playing wow were normal kids in school.
>>742453559Crimson Desert unironically does
>>742459552and the way they behaved and interacted on the internet was radically different compared to what it is today, when there are no more hard separations between meatspace and what you do online, when everything is interconnected, fake and gayIf you are seriously trying to equivocate the social environment of 2000's internet with that of today, you are beyond wrong.
>>742453559Nobody has ever actually followed the Warcraft model because the Warcraft model involves 3 games of buildup before you get your WoW
>>742457861A few developers could make a few mobs and a zone per day and have an MMO of content in a month or two. You could make trees choppable in a day.
>>742459727Get on it.
I used to work for EverQuest back in the day. If the thread is still up when I get back I'll tell a few stories. Still love MMOs today, fucking hate the monetization and other garbage they've become most of the time (gacha, mobile, and others are ever worse though so tis industry wide sadly). Played WoW from Vanilla through Legion and for a few reasons, despite some great memories, couldn't stomach what they changed in all the wrong ways. One of the closest things to the oldfag MMO experience, in terms of the community and openness of the whole thing if not the RPG playstyle is, like >>742459454 mentioned possible in Star Citizen . Seriously. More on it later, but I came in during an in-game event on the (vertical slice alpha, public universe) and I had some random guys helping me finish the event specific 5 tier multistage missions to get the award , after receiving a rescue beacon because my ship blew up on a barren planet and didn't want to suicide to lose all the shit I picked up. I was surprised that after giving me a lift back, they basically escorted me through the whole thing - that was the kind of thing I used to remember back in the old days at EQ, FFXI, and WoW during the early days when you'd help someone out and make their day, and it may likely do it for you too. Sure you also remember the assholes but that's always an issue. Anyway back later
>See this thread>Get the wow itch again>Know that even if I resub, the game that I'm thirsty for doesn't exist anymore
Everyone fellated Turtle WoW and while it was certainly better than official, I found it lame and soulless. Wow fags are delusionalWow was never a good game, you were just a kid when you played it for the first time. Objectively MMOs that came before WoW were better but they didn't achieve the same level of popularity because they were more difficult. WoW was just the first casual MMO which makes it even funnier when you faggots pretend that the old WoW was complicated.

>>742460129It was fine when people didn't see through the world (leveling was still novel and didn't feel like hundreds of hours of a dumbed down, forced tutorial; and they didn't have hundreds of other games to play). Just make a risk:reward sandbox MMO. Even Blizzard could do it. They already have 2 RTS games -- why not 2 MMOs? They could even just do sandbox servers on WoW.

>>742458804No, because one, it's not an open world, it has more in common with a game world like Gothic's than a true open world, and two if I evaluated it as an open world it would fail miserably at being a good open world. I miss the player ecosystem of WoW in it's early years. fresh noobs with people interacting, grouping to quest, and learning together by sharing what they learned. questing at low levels and finding a priest nearby to just get a stam buff could make all the difference for some areas, especially if you're new and shit.running into a cool high level player who was willing to help you out by giving you a run or free gear felt great, and later on when I became high level it felt good to pass it on by decking out new players, or giving them some cool item/consumes.a lot of this has been gone for years as most things have a guide before being released and leveling turning into just a speed bump for end game, there isn't a need anymore.Classic 2019 was such a shitshow of poopsockers rushing to 60 to raidlog, even people who never played vanilla wow were aoe grinding as mages to rush to max level instead of enjoying the game.TL:DRtime's change and I'm sad.
