Not hard, just old. It expects you to actually talk to NPCs, read your notes, and figure shit out instead of following a glowing piss trail. Combat is mostly circle-strafing and abusing cover. Save often and you'll be fine.

I played the original version on a pentium 3 with a voodoo gpu, looked like shit but worked. If the 1.1 version doesn't work you can find the original on beta archive.

I've actually been playing the recent sequel and it's pretty fun, I just wish that all of the missions weren't just fetch quests
