Do you regret not getting a Steam Deck when they were $300?
>>742481768I got one for that price and i regret it. It‘s just an indie machine for the most part and i could have played those on switch anyway. The most use i got out of it was playing dead space 2 which was nice
Bought one at launch.A few months later, it got to the point where I was spending more time trying to get it to work properly without throwing a hissy fit than I was actually play games. The fact it drained its own battery overnight even when charged and turned OFF didn't help matters either
>>742481768I have one, I've used it so much its permanently stained with my sweat and grease. I upgraded to an Ally X last year
>>742481768that thinkpad keyboard looks cool
>>742481768Not really, the days where i would want one (long train rides) were are long gone before that thing came out i might have grabbed it for my brother but he wasn't too into playing games outside
>>742482117How do you fumble setting up something so retard proof
>>742482620Trackpoint keyboard IIUnfortunately they dont make em anymore but you can still get new old stock
>>742481768i got one, then sold it after 2 months. realized none of the games i played on it were demanding enough to warrant it over just using my laptop which i already carry around when traveling.
>>742481768Definitely feel happy I got one last Christmas. Who the hell knows when things will return to even "normal" covid era pricing?
>>742481768Yes.
Love this little device.
>>742485802holy tranny
>>742485941Stop praying to transvestites you freak
No because Valve doesn't sell them in my region, got pic related instead. I don't regret getting either it or the Switch 2, but honestly most of the handheld gaming I do is on my S23 Ultra with those clip-on controllers
>>742481768I fucking regret getting one fuck troonix
>>742481768Lol i fixed myself a Asus rog ally when it was just 330 a year or two ago. Shit's fun and certainly better than a steam deck. Hall effect sticks would've been nice but ah well.

Your (you) privileges have been revoked, stinky turdie
mixed feelings about mine. Its great for casual minecraft on the server... it can run a few other titles but I find myself only playing star citizen recently so like it just doesn't get much use.I got it for 300 and would be willing to sell it for the same price in EU. If you don't use it for a while the battery does deplete - & requires quite a long charge before it even turns on. Quite unusual but I trust Valve hardware so there might be a reason for it.
>>742487393>too much of a bitch nigger to reply to me directly Fucking lmao

>>742488065Yes the 64gb model though
>>742481768I don't cause I got the 1tb oled
>>742481768got it a couple of years ago, I love it so much. It's like the psp 2 I always wanted as a kid. I even have it so whenever you turn it on it boots up the psps intro, lol. There's also a cool psps theme you can install.I was actually planning on waiting for steam deck 2 but i figured even if it gets announced soon, i'll still get the most out of this just like my psp, and I used that thing way past it's glory days, jailbreaking it gave me so much freedom with it. With Steam Deck I didn't even have to do that, I could just play anything right out of the box, not just my steam games, so win/win. I don't even play games on my pc anymore. it's mostly used to hold more games on it whenever i need to move them.I''m glad I got it now with the prices going up for everything. Made the right call. Though the market is full of alternatives now so I don't think steam deck being more expesnive will be that big of an impact for people if they just want A handheld pcI'm sure there's plenty of great options. I like to think steam deck paved the way for gaming pc handhels like it didn't just have to be nintendo, and one that doesn't have a locked ecosystem. It's great for competition.
Post yfw you bought the Steam Deck OLED 1TB when it was on sale for $700.
>>742489234i got the oled 1tb and bought a 1tb stick, i have a game for every situation now.

>>742490942maybe it's phantasy star online?
>>742490938Cute patootie
No. The kind of games I'd play on a handheld I can do on a $45 bucks chink handheld.
>>742481768why would I want a portable? I don't leave my house
>>742485802Daggerfall works absurdly well as a portable game once you dial in the controls
>>742490942>>742491004yes it's psoit's alright, it's basically a japanese diablo but it kind of burns itself out after a certain point and gets super boring
>>742481768I have a Deck but it's been collecting dust lately. Though I attribute that more to me being busy with my Switch 2 and not finding the drive to play on my Steam Deck. It just feels better on my Switch 2. I've been curious on modding games, but don't know how to mod them. I figure Skyrim is a good starting point. >>742482620It does. I should get one for it.
>>742481768I've had the 512GB OLED model for just over a year now, and it's not an exaggeration to say that it is the only thing keeping me into gaming at this point. Kind of bums me out that the price increase makes it harder to recommend the Deck to people.
Regret is for the weak (I need to clean my trackpads today....)
>>742481768I was in the market for the oled last year when they were out of stock, so I bought the Legikn Go S instead for $500. I've enjoyed it so far.
>>742492162Workshop is retard-proof...
>>742481768I didn't like SteamOS, so I've installed CachyOS handheld edition on my SD LCD, but lost my big library of non-steam games in the process…
>>742492578I tried the Workshop for Brotato and it crashes the game. I downloaded the most popular mod and that's it.
>>742492661Some mods have critical dependancies. You should read the entire wall of text of whatever you are interested in. If that wasn't the case, who knows?
>>742481768i love mine it's my main gaming machine since i've been going through 2010s AAA games
>>742492162Keep an eye on sales and (outside of emulation) use your Deck for anything that isn't a modern 1st / 2nd party Nintendo game. The only exceptions would be multiplayer games (with *might* work better on Switch 2) and modern 3rd party games that are better optimized for Switch 2 (you'll have to do your own research there).Good example of something you should buy if you don't have it already is The Binding of Isaac (including all DLC). It's going to retail for $70 on Switch 2, but the exact same game is on sale for ~$5 on Steam right now.
>friend has a baby>lend him steam deck so he can game whilst the baby is sleeping>don't know when it's ok to ask for it backhow long until babies aren't a pile of goo that eats, sleeps and shits all day?
>>742492962It only gets harder as the baby gets older. I have 3, ranging from 1 to 5, and I usually don't get a chance to game until they're all in bed.
>>742481948>It‘s just an indie machineIt's an everything machine, except for certain games with anti-cheat. People who say things like that can be locked 60fps 4k puritans, they cannot be people who say they could just game on the switch instead.
>>742492745How do I remove the mod? I click unsubscribe and the problem still exists.>>742492898I've built up enough of a backlog so I'm good there, with most of them being single player games. Including Binding.>>742492962>how long until babies aren't a pile of goo that eats, sleeps and shits all day?Around 3, though you should just ask for your Deck back. Or at the very least, give him a deadline.
I got my OLED one for $500 so I'm not complaining
>>742493324That should be enough, you can reverify the files or reinstall the game completely. If neither of those work, it might not be the mod and could be your proton version>t. Megaquarium player where most of the fun comes from mods
>>742493947Noted. Since the Steam Deck is just a computer, is downloading mods off mod sites easy enough? I also want to get the roms for Transformers Cybertron duology and Wolverine from the Internet Archive.
>>742481768>he didn't boughtes an OLED>he gotted a stinky lcd
>>742493947>it might not be the mod and could be your proton versionThis. And as obvious as it is, remember to keep your OS up to date with the stable branch. I was having issues earlier this year, and I think most of them were caused by outdated software.
>>742494230OLED 'eckers are tourists
i started using the deck more after hearing about the price increase lolbeen playing the new version of kiwami 2, you can actually hit 60 stable ish with frame gen now.
>>742494128It just depends on the games. Some games are way easier to mod on deck than others. You're going to want to figure out your directories, since the deck has a weird ass file system that makes finding installs a pain in the ass sometimes
>>742494391Yeah, alot of games play way better now. Lies of P is a stable 60 98% of the time now (outside of the hotel checkpoint with all the particle effects). I haven't beat Romeo yet, so who knows how the rest of the game runs, but the game was damn near unplayable in 2024
>>742494331Cope
>>742494583True in my experience, as well. When in doubt, I check recommended settings in ProtonDB for a game before I buy, but in practice, a lot of the reported issues have already been resolved by Proton updates.

>>742494230I bought mine before the OLED released...
>>742481768Got one when it came out and then picked up an OLED for my brother. Fucking love my Deck like you wouldn't believe, it's what consoles always should have been. I feel bad for anyone who got stuck with these prices.

I had 1 steam deck already when I bought the OLED model so I cheaped out and got the 512gb drive variant and I regret it. Should have bought the 1tb. Need that extra storage bad
>>742494814>He didn't boughted both....
Nah, I built a PC for $500 instead. Feels bretty good.
>>742495186It isn't that difficult to replace the original ssd with a higher capacity one and reinstall SteamOS.That being said, it is a lot more expensive now.
>>742481768No.Got a ROG Ally as a gift and I barely even use it.
>>742495397Brother I am way too lazy to do that shit
I bought one at launch and don't touch it that often but do come back to it now and then. I mostly use it for playing big JRPGs in bed but I probably only do one or two of them per year.
I've been wondering, should I go ahead and pick up replacement sticks for my Deck? I'm a little autistic about using them because I know they'll eventually wear out.

i regret getting a rog xbox ally x because i dont use it. fucking switch 2, made it redundant.
>>742494128yeah, it's like a pc, pick a browser, look for mod and download I've rarely had issues installing mods, modders have made modding much easier and usually is just drag and drop or mod managers, so it works just fine on steamosit's usually stuff like Peacock for Hitman that can be difficult. but i'm sure with enough patience you can make it work.make surre to show hidden files>>742496242Check out Steam Deck HQ or youtube videos or or ask ai and it'll link sources to sites or posts that can help you with specific stuff.
>>742481768No the thing can't even emulate some gamecube games without shitting the bed
>>742481768No, not at all. I play games "on the go" (going between the couch and my bed) on my Switch and RG Slide and any other time I'm playing on the Series X or my PC. I don't have space or need for a single Valve device.
I never found a use for the buttons on the back..
>>742481768Now that I know how to turn hundreds into thousands, no. By time I'm ready to cash out the Steam Deck ecosystem will be even better.
Got one a launch. It was great value when it came out, and with decent specs too. One of the best pieces of hardware I ever bought. Nowadays the minipc market is more saturated with chinkhelds, plus the new OLED models don't really have much to offer in terms of power, whilst costing way more even before the RAM nonsense. I still use it though, playing SMTV on it right now, works like a charm.
>>742481768Love mine for playing indie shit and older gamesGreat for recomps/emulation
>>742481768I kind of did, but I have a modded Switch that I barely touch as it is.I still have a Steam Controller that I got for $5.

>>742497779Need better bait.
How much do you guys travel if you have the need for a portable?
>>742499739>I regret not selling my LCD and getting the OLED.Same. My desktop monitor is HDR so every time I want to stream a game I have to go over and turn off HDR and then stream my game and even then I'm capped at 60hz and wifi5 only. It's crazy that Valve is putting out dogshit hardware and hasn't focused at all on making the Steam Link functionality half as good as some of the open source projects.
>>742500095Portable systems are good if you don't want to be anchored to your "battlestation" for 16 hours a day. They also have a very prohibited function of being able to be plugged in to your living room, which obviously no one here does because it deprives you of your "battlestation".
>>742492397The legion go s is the successor to the deck. Somehow the same price despite being more powerful.Or just get a used z1e rog ally and replace the battery.
>>742481768I wish i had bought a OLED instead of the launch model. I expected a new one to come out within 2-3 years not 7+

>>742481768I got two Steamdecks at launch and they still get used everyday. One for me and one for my wife. Though mine tends to stay in the bedroom hooked up to my bedroom 65" OLED as an emby client for playing the 200TB-ish worth of movies/TV/anime/music/etc these days since I got the Switch 2 which is a lot smaller in my backpack for gaming at work (I have a private office so I game a lot but it is below ground in a datacenter so no wifi for obvious reasons). I can't imagine paying 750 bucks for one today though, even with the OLED display. That's retarded. It was pretty low performance when it came out, let alone today. Still serviceable for most games.

Glad I got my original model, then sold it for OLED which I still have now. Its a great option for many lower resource games and has basically made purchasing a gaming laptop unnecessary for short trips and the like. Have a dock for it too.
>>742481768Kind of? I returned an oled because it had issues with its audio especially with headphones (apparently a know manufacturing defect) and was hesitant to try again.

>>742481768 what a performative pic jesus
>>742506462Its 2026, get something to remove the screws and replace them. Information isn't scarce and aliexpress parts come fast as fuck. Not a deck, but I fuck enough shit up to recommend a chink parts seller
>>742487451I haven't noticed this battery phenomenon at all, anon. Your deck might be broken
Got the OLED version at launch. I'm not a Valve fanboy, it has its faults and I'd qualm at some things, but honestly it's grown on me over time and I'd say it's probably my current favourite gaming hardware. It's good for everything up to and including 8th gen and I've had some great experiences on it. At this point though there's no way I'd buy a replacement if it were to ever break at current prices. It's just insane. Fortunately I still have my desktop rig and a laptop ij reserve as well as a bunch of console hardware.
>>742487451The other guy is talking nonsense, that is a real thing. However there's also a setting you can change in the bios to protect the battery if you intend to go for some months without using it. However that kind of requires planning and not just impulsively not using it for whatever season
>>742491970thats why I prefer v1 on dreamcast, so there's no ultimate autismo
>>742487451I've been having battery issues too. I have it set at 80% but even when left on the dock, it ranges between the late 75s. After I unplug it, I have an hour or less before it dies.
