It’s all those drugs you can pick up off the ground in the rainforest. This is what attributed to their harlenquinn war fashion.
>>742640598That's cool, but I'd kill to see a KCD-esque game set in Pre-Columbian Mexico.
>>742640785>implying people all over the planet didn't enjoy dressing in extravagant, colorful clothingngmi
on another not the aztec were extremely violent people, that's why other groups sided with cortez
>>742640042Californians would have it immediately cancelled and blacklisted because it's "cultural appropriation" unless your entire staff is gringo-american and you pay out the ass for a "consultation service" from sweet baby.
>>742640042There are plenty. Proto-spics are just not very interesting, at all. Granted they are cooler than desert-shit (the gayest of all settings)
>>742640042because nobody actually and unironically wants to play as spearchuckers
>>742640785>It’s all those drugs you can pick up off the ground in the rainforest. But they didn't live in rainforests. Only the Maya did and they ravaged the treeline almost bare to feed themselves on the crappy local soil. The exact same problem that has Brazil mulching through the Amazon today. Rainforests have garbage soil. If you cut down and burn them, you can get one good crop and then it turns into a desert for several years.
>>742640042>>742641960Plus swamps and jungles generally are a lot of work to create, visually. It easily becomes cluttered or messy. A few games has done it well, and there are styles it wouldn't matter too much to have jungle or swamps
>>742640286>Red dyed teethI guess fashion trends have always been retarded everywhere.
how would these people have fared by themselves if no European nation had come into contact with them? they should make a game about that scenario
>>742640042Outside of the drip it's the most boring shit imaginable. Egypt from temu but 3000 years newer.
>>742640042it SUCKS
>>742640914Literally nothing happened there, there's no story to write. They were savages, not knights. Now fuck off with this off topic garbage, it's not Cinco de Mayo.
>>742643028They were already fairing relatively well. If they didn't get completely conquered because of gold, there would have probably been trade and technological exchange established. Hard to predict after that.https://youtu.be/gNYXmzt-O-A
>>742640042>people will look at this photo and be like "dude the Earth is definitely round!!!!globeheads are so delusional
>>742643028Same as the random tribes that live in the middle of Africa, the Amazon, or on South Pacific islands. They'd keep living like the stone age in thatch huts. They'd be nothing today because they achieved nothing back then. They didn't even have the wheel or metallurgy.
Hexen 2 has an entire chapter dedicated to a mesoamerican region where a common enemy is a werejaguar
>>742640042>Massive cities in the midst of thick jungles and swamps>Blood sacrifices>Occult body paint>Worship of the sun>Hyper-violent warriors Unironically, if there was ever a follow-up to Bloodborne, having it take place in Central America would be absolute kinoSame theme of old blood and cosmic gods, but through a meso-american lensEither way, totally underutilized setting. Wish there were South American game studios so they can pump one out.
>>742642068>>742645563>swamps and jungles>of thick jungles and swampsThe vast majority of mesoamerican civilizatios, including the Aztecs, was actually located in temperate and semi-arid highlands tho
>>742645563The problem with that idea though, is that souls-likes are shit games.
>>742640042why aren't those Mesoamericans not making them?
>>742648212they're all dirt poor subsistence farmers in rural latin america nowadays
It would be a quaint, primitive setting. Bringing in the Owl Mage was basically like dropping a tactical nuke on the battlefield.

>>742651573unironically very much looking forward to this, despite being a huge departure from the actual turok games. ignoring the IP association, it looks like if remnant was set in a techno-native american future filled with dinosaurs. I'm just happy to have anything with indigenous aesthetics at this point, cool cyber-tech and dinosaurs are just an added bonus. don't give 2 fucks if it shits on the IP of some 1-hit wonder FPS from 30 years ago.
>>742640042The problem with this prospect is that basically every single person who's part of the small group of people interested in that topic is a giga-autist directly influenced by that one text-dumping guy from /his/ and would accept nothing but 100% historically accurate shit with bright colors and battle fursuits, not saying it's a bad thing, but y'know, not gonna happen unless somebody already in that crowd like Mossacannibalis gets into game dev or vice-versa
>>742640382Not sure you'd rest a macuahuitl on the shoulder like that.
>>742652632He's wearing padded armor underneath
today I learned a bit more about what 'Mesoamerican' meansand that the Incan Empire isn't
>>742640042Why would they? It's a boring stone age shit hole. You'd be better off making a roman game, at least there's something going on there.
>>742652739I get that but it's still a fabric and the obsidian will still cause tears if he walks around with it like that.

>>742640042Why did you post a pic of mount fuji
>>742640042why cant mexicans make the game?
>>742640042Too hard to make. Info on them is a bit difficult to find for the average person. Here in America we don't really learn about anything about Mesoamerica aside from>Columbus discovered America >Cortez killed a bunch of themWhich then skips everything after and in between to then talk about how the Mayflower landed here and how the British king is bad. I can't imagine the Europeans, Japanese, and Chinese developers learn or know that much about them.>>742654682>>742648212No monies :(
If 4chan's roaming Meso-autist finds this thread, I'm sure he could lay down a detailed idea for one.
>>742656572I'm not him but i became a shittier version of him after years of reading his posts and personally I'd say that a mount & blade type game with Crusader Kings-inspired dynasty system would be the most fitting. That or literally just a specialized CK-like paradox map painter, those are useful for any historical setting
>>742649743how do you know this
>>742640042probably too much guesswork since none of their history was recorded. It doesn't have 250 years of egyptology behind it and whatever you'll do with your Mesoamerican game, it will always attract the weirdoes who cry foulplay and will accuse you of oversimplified racism.
>>742658613Because there are literally tens of thousands of Maya vases, statues, ceramics and murals in which they depict various elements of their culture
>>742659183Can you post some that look anything like what you claimAll the stuff on browser search looks like Apocalypto
Oh god I was thinking about this like a decade ago, went autistic about it, did research on all the cultures, had whole plan. Campaign where you went into the cthonic world, played ball with the devil w/ your twin, crossed the river, all that stuff. Bosses were going to be stylistically psychedelic fights, lots of the their depictions come with weapons already but it would've been half that and half their archetype or whatever.
Absolutely no problem with the cast

>>742661993Nice. This plate came up on the market last month and I had to get it
>>742665318Sick how much did that cost you? I've been looking at stuff on Christies from time to time, would love to get something nice Meso/Egypt.
>>742665375Surprisingly only about $550. Can tell people aren’t freely throwing around money like they used to. Egyptian stuff is still scarce besides beads/trinkets. Too many damn fakes too.
>>742665578That's dope, how much was shipping? I tried to buy a meteorite slice earlier and maybe got robo outbit or something thankfully I geuss but the shipping cost to Canada was something wild like $300.
>>742665782The guy’s in England, but it was only maybe $620 all said and done. I see a lot of antiquity dealers in London with reasonable prices, but yeah, they want way too much to get it to the US.
>>742665974Sheeeeit, anyways that stuffs cool and the way I see it is it's basically a miracle to be in one piece after all these years.

>>742668235O, think that's this rendition.

>>742663676>>742663869>>742668235Also fun fact: the pokeball-looking symbols you can see in a lot of these are actually meant to represent eyes (if it wasn't obvious by looking at their actual eyes), so half of the time they either had their attire be covered in disembodied eyeballs or had extra ones in random parts of their bodiesThis artist, who comes in handy pretty often when it comes to this stuff, does a pretty good job at visualizing it
>>742640382WE WUZ AMERICANS N SHIET

>>742649743Dios mio...EL ESPANIARDO
>>742669168I think they did get genuine maya
Being a Mesoamerica fan is suffering. No one knows jack shit about this subject but they all fucking think they do. It's impossible to have any kind of discussion about the subject without a billion conquistador larpers rambling about jungles and huts despite them being one of the most urbanized civilizations of their time, every depiction of them in media will be comically and offensively wrong, and Mesoamerican archeology will never get the funding and respect it deserves so new sites and artifacts are getting destroyed on a monthly basis. They found a lost city the size of San Francisco in the jungle in 2024 and I'm willing to bet money none of you even heard about it. At this point I'd rather the subject just not be publicly discussed anymore so I can enjoy what little survives of it in peace without having to watch retards spout blatant bullshit and get cheered on every time it's brought up.
>>742640382Why do they carry the stars and stripes?
>>742640042Because anyone with the creative vision, passion, and skills to pull it off already left the country to work for the soul-sucking machine that is the AAA industry. There is no video game dev scene here.
>>742669736because red & white stripes and white polka dots on a black background were both popular patterns within their culture and which were occasionally combined, as seen in the bottom middle of pic related, which is what that pic and just about every single depiction of a cuauchiqueh (that specific type of warrior) is based on. I think there are depictions of them wearing the same sort of banner but in different stripe colors, so i guess it was a somewhat standardized thing
>>742670148So? Whatever's country you're from doesn't have a monopoly on that setting
>>742669528>They found a lost city the size of San Francisco in the jungle in 2024 and I'm willing to bet money none of you even heard about it.educate me, i'm interested
>>742640042I had some ideas for a souls-like in a mesoamerican setting. It'd need an Elden Ring-tier budget to get it right though, so obviously that's never happening.>>742669528I feel your pain anon. Between this and all the books that the spics burnt during the conquest, I don't think mesoamerica will ever get a fair shake.>They found a lost city the size of San Francisco in the jungle in 2024 and I'm willing to bet money none of you even heard about it.I was about to ask if you were talking about Sac Balaam, but iirc that was actually found last year and wasn't all that big.

>>742648538wrong. there are plenty of them in the cities that have the knowledge but just like the rest of the city they were corrupted into globohomo jewliwood monoculture (socialism/left wing being the most effective mechanism)
>>742670379They're calling it Valeriana. Due to the huge Mayan migration and city abandonment at the end of the classic period, and the dense foliage moving in and covering up the old structures, there's all sorts of crazy things hidden out there in the jungle. Now with the adoption of Lidar we're finding a lot more. Unfortunately the excavation is very poorly funded and news is sparse, but they've discovered about 6500 buildings so far, mapped the site to about 47sq miles, made some population estimates(30-50,000), and are dating the founding to around 150AD. It was only a 15 minute walk from a major highway and town.If you want more info than that, welcome to the party man. I'm absolutely pissed about how little information the archeologists are sharing.>>742670721Valeriana, it's stupidly huge. Praying we can find some intact language carvings or preserved interiors, I feel like just based on the sheer size it seems inevitable.
>>742652810the incan empire was far more advanced but it was a spiritually degenerate shithole full of incest and treachery that couldn't decide on the next king and that ultimately doomed it. they were pretty much south american pajeets
>>742670939>>742669528Neat.Imagine the video games.
>>742648115Rather have simple soulslike than some Ubislop
>>742670939>I'm absolutely pissed about how little information the archeologists are sharing.well this is kind of the basis for modern research, colonial era with private collection/museum/philantropic financing and having a good chunk of the population being farm laborers and free for the winter season to dig up shit sure helper a lot in places like egypt
>>742661278The dark skinned tiny ugly dwarf like ones are real azteccas. Too ugly for Spaniards to rape.
Because only woke white people make games.
>>742670201Cool. I only recently heard the claim that the Americas are really named after one of these >>742663869 old serpent gods
>>742640286Why the shitty bowl cut bangs?
>>742667963>They had cities with populations in the millionsCan we see them?
>>742671809Sure. Go to Mexico City. You can still see a lot of the Aztec foundations of buildings that the Spanish built on top of.
>>742671735If it's the claim I'm thinking of, the one that claims it comes from "Amaruka" or whatever and that it means land of the feathered serpent, then it's not true. It mixes an Inca word for a type of chimera monster (Amaru) with the Maya word for place (Cah), which is a pretty egregious mistake since the Maya and the Inca were two completely separate cultures in two different continents that weren't even part of the same civilization and the Amarus of andean mythology are depicted as either two-headed regular snakes or llama-snake-bird monsters, not feathered serpents.
>>742671949Kinda a shit hole, don't you think?
>>742672002Still somehow cleaner than Commiefornia
I just remembered this thread is on /v/ and not /his/ so let's try to get this shit back on track:Elder Scrolls Online argonians. They're a bad attempt at incorporating Mesoamerican elements onto a fantasy race. Not only does it commit the cardinal sin of having the so-called Mesoamerican elements be just gray ruins and weird-ass collars that didn't even exist, it also doesn't really fit Argonians conceptually; it's clearly only done because the devs think every fantasy setting ever must follow the tropes Warhammer Fantasy established.
>>742672175Wasn't this the game that made Argonians trans?
>>742672238Kinda, depends on where you think "trans" begins and ends. Argonians were actually implied to be sequential hermaphrodites (something that actually happens in real life among several animals) all the way back in Morrowind, where they were described as having male and female "life-phases" rather than regular sexes and were described by Dunmer NPCs as having "unspeakable foulness in their private and family urges. That being said, it was clearly meant to have the argonians seems weirder and animalistic, since that's what their main gimmick is meant to be, being weird aliens who are radically different from Tamriel's other races. It wasn't really a LGBT representation thing, so it doesn't count in my opinion. What ESO did was apply a modern trans flair to it by having it be a special thing that only happens to Argonians with gender dysphoria and is accompanied by coming out parties and faggy shit like that.
>>742656362Who said it has to be high budget? Some of the most successful games in history had a micro dev team or even solo devs.
if someone were to make an rpg around that topic, assuming you don't go for a photorealistic style, the best free engine for it would be OpenMW for some reason, modern engines are kind of a joke
>>742644586Thry actually did have the wheel and metalurgy. They just had no animals to make use of for doing the heavy lifting that a stone/wood/metal wheel would be used for. Also they had small metal figurines.
>>742662053Yes>>742643028Their ancient cities would still be around for one. Mexico city lake would be a lot bigger since the Spanish never showed up to drain it. If they would've made contact with Incas then their "age of exploration" would have begun since at that point they would have knowledge of other advanced civilizations around them without having to deal with all the disease and guns that came with Euros. Any encounter with foreigners that did carry disease would have likely begun and ended on the ship they were on so no mass die off.
was the aztec DLC for Age of Mythology good?
>>742674097Mesoautist hated it, so possibly not
>>742640042I can see people being scalped at my local gamestop, I don't need games about it.
>>742674157damn
>>742643028They would have built their own boats and invaded Spain as per the Sunset Invasion
