The characters are fairly surface level which is fine for a small project. deltarune feels much bigger and is still being written, so some of the imperfections are easier to notice as a result. Characters have depth, but since we are working off incomplete knowledge with YEARS between installments, things can feel disjointed if you assumed susie is an asshole for 3 years then she opens up to being nice with cringe fanfic romance subplotNow that toby knows schizos will read every line of his code, he has to be more careful with things and not spoil the story. this adds an entire ARG side of things which could work, but some people dislike it. The worry is that the normal playthrough will be mid and the interesting stuff only happens when you get meta. Like, regular run of undertale feels nice, pacifist feels very nice. Genocide is awesome in the literal meaning of the wordIn comparison, Chapter 5 normal route feels corny to the point people are assuming it's shit on purpose since there is good writing if you make the right choices. tl;dr deltarune is way more interesting. I'd play it now. I don't know if the weird route stuff will hit as hard if you can play it all in a day rather than have it weigh on you for literal years. I'd also be interested in your opinion on the feel between 1 and 5 playing it in 'one sitting' versus the 8 years us schizos did.
