which of the SNES/GBA/DS era castlevanias is the best and why
>>742891518SNES - 4GBA - Aria of SorrowDS - Dawn of Sorrow
pre-SotN>post-SotN
IVCoTMPoRsimple as
>>742891518I was gonna try Ecclesia of something. Before that the only mobile Castlevania I played was Circle of the Moon and I didn't care for it but the music was bussinAlso probably try Symphony of the Night when it gets decomped but that isn't mobile
>>742895426Order of Ecclesia is so ass it's painful, i genuinely don't know how they made a castlevania game so boring and with a protagonist so unlikable Aria and Dawn of sorrow are much better
>>742891518IVAriaPoR>>742896302I still wonder how OOE would've been with a higher budget and more time in the oven. All the new sprites and areas they were able to make for it looked great.
>>742891518Psx had both the best classicvania and best metroidvania
>>742897190Rondo of Blood?
Rondo of Blood is the best Castlevania
didnt play snes eraaria of sorrowportrait of ruindidnt play the first ds game, i just REALLY enjoyed por and did literally everything on ds possible and also collected the max amount of moneyhad a really good time collecting every drop again in direct order of encounters on steam in por, wish there was achievements for it, and got to draculas room with all drops and map explored at 23:55 gametime, now im thinking for halloween ill try level 1 lock mode without the each hit does 10% damage armor, unlike ds

>>742893874yeah bro. but thats why i asked "which of the 10 near-identical games that came out after sotn is the best"they are very very different gamescastlevania 4 has no RPG mechanics
>>742892379>>742894081>>742896534>>742899693could you please tell me WHYdo not bother to answer about IV. i dont care about IV. i dont want to play whip contra i want to wander around a mansion looking for gear
>>742902036If you want the best experiences similar to Symphony play AoS, DoS, PoR and also Bloodstained if you want a good Castlevania game with bad graphics not called Castlevania.
>>742902441Hating on Bloodstained's graphics is so superficial. I hope the new one dunks every Castlevania in sales
>>742902036AoSYou can get skills from monsters that do stuff until you fly n stuffI think there's a post-game that lets you play using whip
>>742896534I think the castlevania games on ds really held back for no reason, they had some cool tech going and could have done one great big game instead of the 3 smaller ones, imagine symphony of the night on ds with extremely cool early 3d DS tech
Since Konami isnt making games anymore and they are just subsidising the IPs to other studios, will we have a new Classicvania at some point in the future? The Adventure of Simon Quest proves that there is a market for it and people willing to make games like it.
This stage is annoying and I can't put my finger onto why. Maybe it's input lag? I'm playing on Anniversary collection and some of these jumps are bullshit
>>742902990Portrait of Ruin was pretty cool visually imo
>>742902574It's objectively kind of ugly, but at least it looks better than OoE
>>742891518GBA - Aria of SorrowDS - Portrait of Ruin for the main campaign, but Dawn of Sorrow if Julius Mode counts
>>742903221Super Castlevania is full of trial and error insta-kill deathtraps in the later levels.
>>742903286That I agree on, I still need to beat it but from what I've seen like 4 hours in, it is really fun. If they do a symphony of the night remake they should do the same style of weird early 3d. Would be charming
>>742903702Yeah, the 2.5d was used sparingly, so when it did show up it felt really impactful. The spell effects were very well done and it had way more easter eggs/visual gags (like the biology room in Dark Academy). I was shocked by how much of a step back OoE was visually despite the monster sprites being objectively better than anything the series had seen to that date. PoR had the best Creature fight in the series too.
>>742903667The knockback is so fucking retarded and the fact that in this stage in particular enemies are arranged to conveniently knock you back onto flipping platforms is infuriating. I shudder to think of what that bullshit might look like. Having an explosion playing it afrer backlogging it for so long, though, regardless
>>742903204We got one 2 years ago.
>>742904565Are they gonna just keep releasing hd ports of their old games until SOTN is the last one
>>742902574you want less "superficial" hate? hope you know how to handle walls of runesbeing legally distinct castlevania is actually a huge hit, because that means you have rebuild bestiary from scratch, and let's just say most of them aren't winnersexpandaing on that, areas and flavor are mediocre at best, shardbinders have no cultural cache like vampires, later areas are just going through the motion with desert level, ice level, nippon levelmishmash of existing mechanics, like fetch quests and soul-crafting and gimmicky progression abilities feels desperate, rather than "greatest hits" sort of remix, if only because they are more annoying minutaethe only truly unique angle heh is circular 3d screens, but all that actually means is making most projectiles worse, if they don't curve along the groundindievanias may stand on the shoulders of giants, but they have their own eclectic pecularities about them, while all i felt while going through bloodstained was that it was another mediocre igavania, but with the production timeline of an inexperienced two person teamcurse of the moon is a way better follower than ritual of the night iswhich is honestly a bit befuddling because i am not an inticreates fan in general nor can i say that iga is some impeccable producer
>>742905319>curse of the moonYou mean Circle of the Moon?
>>742905319Please disregard >>742905478, I completely forgot about the Bloodstained 8-bit spinoffs.
>>742904884Thats a remake, I want an original game.
>>742905591Well write Konami a fuckin letter then.
