>>743155239
You don't have to start from 1, all the games are self contained with their stories.
imo Persona 4 is a great starting point, it eases you into the mechanics and gameplay for the first few hours and is very memorable. It's also on Steam or you can just emulate the PS2 version. Give it a shot anon.

>>
>>743155463
Np, it might be a good idea to get a Persona that buffs your team or debuffs the enemy's atk or def. That usually makes or breaks a lot of the Tartarus bosses.

And one last thing, if you finish Persona 3 and like it, look into checking out The Answer. It's an epilogue to the story of P3 that's mostly focused on dungeon grinding. Story varies but it's worth it. You could also just watch it on YouTube tho.

It's crazy how many mid runs there are and how much ratingflation there is due to declining standards. A decently played run with no constant political messaging is S-SSS in 2026. Degree in Middle School Statistics here, I can explain:
>Mean
Sum of all ratings divided by the amount of ratiings. Works best when your data is evenly distributed.
>Median
Middle value after all ratings are sorted. Works best when your data has outliers, such as people randomly rating the opposite of everyone else just to fuck with the ratings.
>Box Plot
Graph that shows a bunch of shit at once:
>whiskers at each end are the minimum and maximum values
>the left side of the box is the median of the lower half of the data
>the right side is the median of the upper half
>the line in the middle of the box is the median overall

Samefag here. I cannot watch this now. Ten minutes in, and a several major glitches have already been performed. This is why speedrunning is a joke anymore. Things are completely arbitrary like >>743160318 said. If it's within basic gameplay mechanics (e.g. bomb jumping), fine. I don't even consider that glitch but creative workaround. But things displayed within 10 minutes yet claiming it's "no major glitches" is just absurdity.

agdq was honestly worse because the "trans rights" shit was on giga hyper ultra mode with "trans rights" flashing screen transitions and it being repeated possibly 5x more than this event if you can even imagine that. it was even more obnoxious than it was this year. it felt like it was non fucking stop literally.

You really don't need the "black" tag, it's never relevant to a run, whereas tranny actually is.
>>
>>743160869
Yes. They toned the faggotry down, but /v/ stayed overly sensitive to it and threads filled up with "THIS IS THE WORST HECKIN GDQ EVAAAA" every time there was a tranny run. This marathon wasn't great, but dead hour runs were usually fine.

Running a script over the youtube transcripts for the events:
>Trans right counter
>SGDQ 2025: 250
>AGDQ 2026: 202
>SGDQ 2026: 176
So the gist is correct, but definitely not 5x.

I wish this worked for older years but YT must have changed its captioning software, because I get unbelievable results (0 hits from 2020). But at least recent years are comparable.
>>
>>743161737
>>743161801
I see, that's a shame. I actually believed there was some improvement in the last couple marathons (though the final block of runs has increasingly got worse)
>>
>>743161593
>>743161959
i would say the event was "okay" BUT it hinges on being able to watch the good blocks. the more lowkey runs are almost always better now because high profile runs or games are seen as prime donation milking now. This GDQ also had a fairly excessive amount of trans runners even by the standards of the event.

tl;dr it can still be a fairly good time but youre much more at the mercy of the schedule, where in the past you could just have the event running 24/7

the worst was when they held everyone hostage for some blind botw run or something
>>
>>743161936
And since I know you're curious about the record-holders:
>6 hits during Resident Evil: Requiem
>7 hits during 20XX
>9 hits during Super Mario and Luigi World: Brotherhood
>10 hits during Pokémon FireRed
>14 hits during Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time
Not time-adjusted so e.g. FireRed's density isn't as impressive as 20XX.
>>
>>743162142
yeah. in the past the "big" runs actually had a chance to be good but now theyre donation bait, incentive bait and engagement bait (meaning they slow down everything due to useless pre and post-run interviews). like if a new zelda comes out its basically guaranteed to be fucked even if the actual run is good

I'd just like to apologize to the janitor personally for a post I made about one of the SGDQ donators that included a harmful depiction of a trans woman. While waiting out the length of my 3 day board-wide ban it gave me time to think. Even though the comment was not directed at the janitor, I forgot to think about how my post could potentially be hurtful to other members of the LGBTQI+ community. I truly am sorry, and would like the opportunity to participate in the threads for the next video game speedrun marathon, if you could all find it in your hearts to forgive me.

>>
>>743170473
I think that GDQ has a very reliable source of donation whales who will keep donating no matter what, even when the viewership is going down. All GDQ has to do is keep pandering to that specific group, and they'll keep trucking along. There's also businesses like the yetee dropping some fat sums every now and then, because some of those t-shirt designs can be neat enough to splurge on, I guess. I remember buying a shirt or two some eight years ago, but haven't since.

>>
>>743172164
>GDQ has a very reliable source of donation whales who will keep donating no matter what
This is the new modern business meta. It's been discovered that it's more profitable to appeal to a smaller, wealthier demographic than to a broader pool of people. This is true across all industries except maybe food.
>>
>>743172624
>This is true across all industries except maybe food.
I think it's general goods (shit like kitchenware, general everyday tools or products, or maintenance equipment like wd40) where it doesn't quite apply.
Sure, there will always be some more "hip" and expensive options for many of those, but even a rich snob might just say it's a waste of money to get some kitchen utensils made out of diamonds. At the end of the day, toilet paper is still toilet paper.
>>
What did they do for the finale?

>>
>>743173585

>gaming companies scrambling to release their games to avoid releasing next to GTA6
>gamers joking or throwing shit about another delay
>people having to eat up their "before GTA6" or whatever similar jokes they might have made
>Rockstar/2K having to deal with more waves of media buzz about crunch, working conditions, or whatever
>>
>>743173768
With the youtube numbers it could even be something as simple as the youtube algorithm happening to pick up the stream, and putting it in front of people. From what I've seen, it's can be a crapshoot to "organically" find streams on YouTube, so it can be down to luck on whatever YouTube is recommending. Much in the same way as how video creators find their videos not reaching as large audiences as they used to, even if the video quality hasn't gone down.
YouTube is largely just a black box when it comes to discoverability. Either you know what you are looking for (and I hope you remember the exact video title if you're trying to search for a specific video), or you get recommended a thing based on whatever nebulous YouTube criteria.

My favorite retarded tranny argument for a glitch was in a Pokémon Red glitchless run where they used that glitch of using a Poké Doll to escape the battle with the ghost at the top of lavender tower to skip the entire Sylph Co Tower. Their argument was
>Well, a glitch means "unintended outcome" to a game.
>But the Poké Doll's intended use is to escape battles.
>So therefore, instead of running from the battle, we use the Poké Doll to escape it and skip over it's trigger entirely. Because that's clearly intended behavior, it's allowed in the glitchless category.
Like, nigga, what? Even a fucking shark lawyer wouldn't try to use that.

There's a lot of bullshit that goes on in speedrunning, but that category literally exists to unbullshit the leaderboards.

What constitutes a major glitch can vary wildly by game, and tends to be more of a gentlemen's agreement between speedrunners not to exploit certain tricks in a given category. In Link to the Past's case, you could just get out of bounds right at the start of the game, and walk to the room that triggers the end credits. While that can be a neat little showcase, it makes the run extremely short and not all that interesting to watch, while also ignoring 99% of the game's content. So, runners just come up with rules that might make for a more interesting category to play or watch, and that's how you get categories like No Major Glitches.
How arbitrary or random these categories get tends to depend on how exploitable the game is, so for some games a NMG category might as well be called glitchless, while for another it's to avoid the most game breaking stuff.

People with good sense left this shitshow years ago
There's not a single run from this week anyone will remember
Nobody will ever recommend watching any of this week's runs to people in the future because it was all garbage

This
>unwatchable dogshit elden ring run
>but because of a hype moment it's rated highly and instantly invalidates the rest of the run being dogshit

I heard that story in the past week. Was he even actually found to be guilty of the molestation in the first place? Or is there anything even credible to that claim?

What was the moment in Elden Ring's case?

How many runs from any of the old events are recommended outside of the usual ones like the Halo 2 trainwreck and the Rocko's quest run which are liked for reasons unrelated to skilled speedrunning

Where do we go now

Guy who's done like 200 or so KH2 Rando runs here, the GDQ run was "okay". I don't really get the community's obsession with co-op runs, I always thought they were way more lame than races because it just ends the seed sooner and makes you have to do less personally. I like playing solo runs or races with people depending on the mood.

The run itself was a 6/10, it was very competent and a slightly shiny rock in the rough, but a few things bugged me;
>Spike, despite being one of the OGs of COR skip, couldn't do it during a run despite having all the tools
>Aforementioned issues with co-op runs
>While they tried explaining it as well as they could, randomizers will NEVER be good for a showcase at speedrun events simply because theres no way a casual viewer could understand what's happening

I personally have just been thirsting for a good old KH2 run at a GDQ for a very long time now, and it feels like it always gets snubbed for something far less interesting like Rando or a random BBS story run. Anyway, that's my autism rant.

That was a good run though. People were liking it even before that moment at the end, that only put it over the top
