We need more singleplayer MMO-like games.(games that have a world to invest in - like crafting, guilds, companions, etc.).
we just need good MMO gamesWhy is this genre so cursed with terrible games
>>743227008black desert exists you know?
>>743227114Yes I am awareWhat's your point
>>743227008Because MMOs are way too expensive to make and operate so they have to be aggressively monetizedThe golden age of MMOs will never return. Early WoW, Everquest and RuneScape were a product of their time
>>743227008MMOs are too abusive with their mechanics.
>>743227008Oxymoron
>>743227114You could assume he wants a good game not checklist slop.
Crosscode
NWN1 or NWN2? I heard NWN2 has the best campaign but combat, GUI are better in NWN1.
>>743228015In the case of both the best parts of them are the DLC. And Mask of the Betrayer is the best thing to have come out of NWN1 and 2.
>>743226950i'm making one right now but it's slop, imagine classic wow mob grinding: the game
>>743228060So I guess motb is so good that it far overshadows the flaws?
>>743227114The combat and graphics are good but everything else about the game is abysmal dogshit
did wow and xiv get shut down or something? those may as well be single player MMOs
>>743228183You mean like World of Claudecraft, the one that ai made in an hour?
>>743228015Depends on if you’re a zoomer or not. I always come back to NWN1, it’s simply a better game. And now with all the mods and overhauls and stuff it looks less like ass (recent updates let you increase draw distance and lighting to crazy levels, for example, and there’s tons of total overhaul packs). NWN2 is largely dead so you’re just playing the original campaigns mostly as they were. If you get the WoW style controls script for NWN2 you can mostly fix its UI issues. You can also do stuff like 8k super sampling because NWN1 is so old that makes it look much better.
>>743226950oh yeah we need more compulsive busywork timesinks
>>743228257You can (and should) fix the control scheme in NWN2 before playing it. It plays fine when you use it. The game engine itself is kinda shitty though so there’s not much modding support and the spell effects and such are a huge letdown if you’re coming from BG2 / NWN1. With this it should play like dragon age 1 but slightly worse. https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/other/kornstalxs-hotkeys-nwn2
NWN1 can look pretty good now with mods (blonde character on the right). However, unless you mod everything the original game looks like complete ass, so you’ll have some disjointed stuff. Luckily there are collections for most stuff, and people like Bill Harper continue to (gradually) release new HQ assets. Right now it feels like there are roughly three tiers:1.) Modern, hand-made HQ assets (Bill Harper’s weapons, a few key NPCs and models) - Unfortunately you have to manually install Beamdog’s latest ~4.75GB HD Art pack, which isn’t much work, but really should be the default (lots of players run it on potato PCs). 2.) AI slop upscaling / older HD stuff3.) Original, dogshit ugly stuffYou can basically replace most things with #1, everything else with #2, and basically avoid #3 now. Then you apply an 8k upscale (supersampling, not AI upscaling), increase the # of active lights and view distance for everything, and it’ll look like a somewhat recent game.
>>743227417>Because MMOs are way too expensive to make and operateThat's the dumbest thing about the devs that are trying to make MMOs, they go all in on the "cinematic" experiences that requires a fuckton of work in order to make instead of doing what the golden age MMOs did, reuse as many assets as you can, make the game as open ended as possible and then give players loose objectives to work towards.Good MMOs and games that are designed like MMOs needs to be systems driven over content driven in order to keep costs down across the board, people wouldn't need 10 raids a year if there was some other type of content in the game that had a lot more replay value that wasn't solely based on gambling for higher numbers on a screen. If these games were designed with replay value in mind then it wouldn't just keep costs down but also retain a larger part of the player base they manage to gain for longer.Ironically, something like Souls shows that it's possible to do with a minimal amount of content (in comparison to other RPGs and MMOs) and no gambling by simply just designing a combat loop with a lot of viable options for success and easy to understand systems that feed into each other.
>>743226950runescape but offline would be the ultimate GOAT.
>>743226950>We need more singleplayer MMO-like games. You mean RPGs you stupid nigger?MMORPG = Massively multiplayer online Roleplaying gameSingle player MMORPG = RPGFuck you.
>>743227008Server costs. The price of keeping the lights on for a substantial amount of players inherently warps a lot of the design of what you wanna add to the game, as you're gonna constantly need money to keep things going. It's why a lot of good MMO design has instead shifted to appearing in small scale sandbox survival RPGs that people are able to privately host for small collections of people.
>>743228985Most modern RPGs are designed like fucking Diablo 3 instead of something like the oldschool MMOs so it's not weird for some people to look at something like Runescape, EQ or Classic WoW and say "I want that but without the shitty community, botting and forced online connection)
>>743228985he probably means shit like .hack games or white knight chronicles where the experience attempts to emulate the MMO experience while not actually connected to anything thus being single player
>>743228985No, he's right. MMOs are designed completely differently from SP RPGs even if they are broadly the same genre
>>743226950no mmo will ever be better than playing elden ring seamless with like 4 of my friends. until an mmo can cross that line, they're obsolete shite and slop as well.
>>743228985RPG is the most useless term in all of videogames. If you say "singleplayer MMO" everyone will immediately know exactly what you mean. If you say "RPG" then nobody has any idea what you mean because half of all videogames are considered RPGs.
>>743228985at no point do you do any roleplaying in MMOs though, which is why basically everyone dropped the RPG, retard
>>743229545>elden ring seamlessdisgusting

>>743226950that Beholder isn't amused
>>743229085yeah i want shit like skyrim rune factory etcmost games are like combat only torchlight or diablo click fests i want a game with osrs skilling offline and less shit
>>743226950what's the most fun class to play as in NWN1?
Thank you anons. I'll play nwn1 first. >>743228443>Depends on if you’re a zoomer or not. I always come back to NWN1, it’s simply a better game.I don't mind low fidelity graphics and jank if it has some stuff worth experiencing, like good art style, an interesting story, solid gamefeel.>And now with all the mods and overhauls and stuff it looks less like ass (recent updates let you increase draw distance and lighting to crazy levels, for example, and there’s tons of total overhaul packs).>You can also do stuff like 8k super sampling because NWN1 is so old that makes it look much better.I'll make sure to do that. More QoL is always nice.>The game engine itself is kinda shitty though so there’s not much modding support and the spell effects and such are a huge letdown if you’re coming from BG2 / NWN1. With this it should play like dragon age 1 but slightly worse.Damn, that's really unfortunate as I liked BG2, BG3 and DA a lot and I'll probably miss those things. Mage classes aren't worth playing if the spells don't feel subjectively impactful regardless of how good the dps and cc are. I hope the meme campaign will be worth it. Anons in the archive either praise it or call it marvel tier capeshit.>https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/other/kornstalxs-hotkeys-nwn2I saved the link.
>>743228843Clashing art styles feel so silly and immersion-breaking to me that I generally only install mods for fun, silly stuff, QoL, etc., not for immersive new content. I'm fully aware though that it's a very tall ask for modders to not only create custom content but also make it fit the overall aesthetic so I have a lot of respect for their work.
where's my autoattack tab targeting single player rpgs bros
>>743226950>singleplayer MMO-likefinal fantasy XII and kingdom of amalur are pretty good for that.
>>743228905>soulslike 90% of mmo players lack the skill for that, and the class designers can barely design a combat loop"easy to understand" for you is quantum physics for the mouthbreathers that play wowpeople can barely manage to stay out ot big red circles or interrupt on time.and if you had 2 classes that were designed with synergy in mind, everyone else would be screeching that they're OP WoW's design seems to have pivoted towards the antisocial retards instead of rewarding players who can cooperate to overcome challenges
RAIDS TODAY.
>>743234249Man I haven't thought about Kingdom of Anal Whores in a long time. What a weird game that was.
>>743227008because the bottom line to everything is profit, and profiting in MMOs is always going to rely on timesinks, gacha gearing, timegates, and gated content (hardest raids etc) to keep the hamster wheel spinning. it's the most dishonest video gaym genre.
>>743234765it felt a lot like wow but singleplayer imo. the camera was aids in combat though
>>743226950i made a thread like this long agohere's the list of some games gathered>Two Worlds 1 & 2>Din's Curse (& legacy)>Atlyss>Outward>FATE>Risen>Fable>Venetica>Torchlight>Diablo I & II (i guess)>Grim Dawn>Titan Quest>Drakensang>Divinity II>Elex>Kingdoms of Amalur>Dungeon Lords>Sacred
>>743235050thats because it was originally meant to be an MMORPG but they gutted it and instead of canceling it they turned it into a single player game which turned out nice
>>743235067Venetica isn’t worth it, it’s a glitchy mess.
We used to just call those RPGs.
>>743235238Venetica is fucking amazingive beaten it twice, but i also played it on Linux so maybe thats why i had 0 issues
How about replacing the massively with mini? Games like that one furry "MMO-lite" Atlas or something. Any other games like that? Or just adventure games that can be played with 2-6 people
>>743228015As a single player game, Neverwinter Nights 2 is much better than the first. Even not accounting for the expansions, where the real meat of both games are.People over exaggerate how bad the OCs of both games are, neither is unplayable or even bad, so feel free to play whichever one first. But do play both at least once.
>>743228015NWN1 is more of a dungeon crawler than 2 is. If you want to make more choices and develop relationships with characters, and have a cast of quirky characters you need to give a shit about, 2 is what you want. If you just want to roll a bunch of enemies with 3.0 DnD shenanigans, get the first one.
>>743235351that's Monster Hunter to me, I know this is monkey paw shit, but if MH had a consistent online world where players could roam, it'd be so good. Wilds tried and failed at having an open-world-ish design, but the DNA is there at least
>>743231652Depends on what you like.To me? Cleric who can buff itself to godhood will always be my shit.Crazy melee offensive power, lots defenses, plenty of utility, and even some CC and offensive spell-casting.Basically, it's a kind of character that has a clear focus but can participate in every pillar of the game to some extent depending on how you build it.
>>743226950why THE FUCK is EE 10GB in size wtf is wrong with these modern retard devs
>>743233360Definitely install the HD pack, it’s on top of the enhanced edition and is a separate thing from beamdog in the steam store. Then if you’re playing NWN1 OC get the enhanced Aribeth too. No idea why they split stuff out like this except to keep minimum specs low for people with super old PCs. Finally, set all graphical settings to highest (I think you have to tweak the ini maybe to go above a certain number of dynamic lights and increase grass range further). Finally enable supersampling and set the resolution as high as your GPU will go. You’ll basically have a vanilla experience but it’ll look better. But yeah, NWN1 is way easier to mod and was therefore sort of like Oblivion on a smaller scale, so at this point it probably looks better than NWN2 despite starting from a huge deficit. I usually play wizard in both (pixie for locks in nwn1 for party flexibility, panther if you want a tank), but it definitely feels less epic in nwn2. There may be better particle effects now.
>>743226950I'm playing Svarog's dream and fucking loving it.https://store.steampowered.com/app/2004640/Svarogs_Dream/
