What really held gaming back was the endless yearning for more power and "better" graphics. It was power without purpose, and Sony and Microsoft were left holding the bag with powerful consoles with nothing to play on them while Nintendo knew that people wanted to play fun games, even if the console wasn't top-of-the-line.
