People have always said Lord of The Rings' popularity lead to the look of Cyrodiil in Oblivion, and while I think it might have played some role in armor design, I think we've kinda overlooked just how much of Oblivion's presentation is directly copied from Daggerfall.The statues of the Princes are almost entirely 1-to-1 copies of their appearances in Daggerfall, with only a handful of outliers. Cyrodiil itself is a direct copy of the procedurally generated presentation of it in Daggerfall. Basically, what this all appears to me as, is that Oblivion the first instance of Todd Howard taking a setting and actually shitting all over it for his personal, ugly, generic sense of taste and scorn for anything outside of his own personal ideas. Kirkbride took a bland, generic fantasy setting in Daggerfall and made something amazing out of it with Redguard and Morrowind, and just like with Obsidian taking 3D Fallout and one upping Todd before, it burned Todd up that something he was involved with was made better and enjoyed more without his generic shit taste. The man we've memed for years is nothing but a power-driven tasteless faggot full of seething jealousy over people who did better things with his IP's than he could ever achieve.He deserves the asshurt he's receiving right now. Even if it kills Bethesda, even if there's never another good TES or Fallout(there wasn't going to be anyway), this is all deserved.
