The graphical jump from FF7 to FF8 is kind of insane.
How the hell did they manage to improve the models, backgrounds, cinematics and animations by such a large margin in only two years?
FF7 feels like it's a generation behind.

FF7 was very impressive for a company's first outing in 3D. I don't know if they pioneered the pre-rendered graphics(maybe RE did it first?) and having the model walk on top of it to simulate depth but it's very ingenious.

Maybe I'm just a nostalgia fag but I think this is why games don't feel a magical anymore. There's no more room to grow/improve. All we have left as the next frontier is fully immersive VR/brain chip shit, if that ever comes out at all

They went into 7 basically trying to turn the SNES style into 3D, and had zero idea what the capabilities were with the hardware in the swap from N64 to PS1. Then they probably looked at stuff like what Capcom was doing with pre-rendered backgrounds in a similar fashion but much more detailed character models only a year prior, and came to greatly realize they could get away with a LOT more than they expected.
