I don't recommend playing Elona+ these days since a lot of the added content isn't very good
at the same time it's the most popular variant in the english community

I haven't played in years but Omake Overhaul and Omake Overhaul Modify Sukutu Edition South Tyris ep Natsuko Custom (yes it's actually called that) became popular around the time Elona+ was adding a bunch of stupid changes everyone hated. The Omake variants are more like vanilla Elona in that they're a very slow grind.

A lot of people still play Elona+ but it's recommended that you get Elona+ Custom-GX since it adds a bunch of QoL features and lets you disable many of the changes people hate.

/jp/ has an Elona/Elin thread where you can find all the info on different variants and decide what to play yourself.
