Its competition was Monster Strike(still the highest grossing mobile game in Japan every year iirc but it was way bigger back then), Puzzle and Dragons(Still top 5 every year even though it's fallen off hard), KanColle(it was huge at the time, it overtook the entire otaku community), and a bunch of other games. By the time the Vita stopped getting big new games it was 2015 when FGO came out and GBF(2014) was big. Sony's read on the market was that mobile would take over from there on out and they misread it and it backfired on them tremendously. They were right that otaku flocked to mobile(and are still there) but now that there's not big new mobile games releasing every 2 or 3 days like back then, people are actually buying handhelds again so the Switch 1 and Switch 2 did amazing. The 3DS didn't face the exact same problem that Sony did because the Vita was the otaku machine and the 3DS had more normalfag appeal. Otaku abandoned Sony and Sony abandoned otaku and then went to Nintendo because the Switch got all the otaku games that would have otherwise been on the PSP/Vita.
