I just got past the part where I went into the mansion and found who sent the notes to Yohnah, and I read online that Part 2 comes after this.
What things should I do before starting "Part 2"? Should I get every weapon?
And when does this game get good?

The game's already good. It got good at the desert temple. No weapons are missable, any weapons not obtained in act 1 can be bought in act 2. Also, be sure to fully stock up on healing items and save your game as soon as you go back to the village. Shit goes down shortly after. Thank me later.
>>
>>743267186
I just downloaded a save which completed all of the side quests right there, I really didn't want to burn out running back and forth doing nonsense I have other stuff to play than sit for 10 hours hitting lizards or whatever it wanted me to do.

I can’t finish this game.
Any time I open it I just start tearing up because my ex introduced it to me and I still fucking miss her 4 years later.
Same with automata but atleast I finished that before
>>
>>743270731
The dog one is just running back and forth a couple of times on the northern plains, takes 5 minutes. The ballad one is an absolute must because of the kino scene you're rewarded with. Plus, the banter between Nier and Weiss while you're running the errand is priceless. Literally only involves farming five rat tails (keep reentering the outside of the junk heap) and five lizard tails (keep reentering the area with the scaffolding that leads upward to the junk heap). This quest in particular is, again, an absolute must. You may as well quit playing the game now if you don't want to do it, as you're clearly not interested in lore.

I’ve done a whole entire 2 side quests. How do I activate these?

What am I supposed to like about the characters?
>Nier: an extremely bland character who does the “moral thing” at all times, doesn’t do anything inherently flawed or wrong, and isn’t interesting whatsoever
>Emil: just a boring child who can’t even see, doesn’t add anything of value to the story, and really only serves as a purpose of Kaine getting killed
>Weiss: A fucking talking book who constantly makes quippy remarks and puts himself on a pedestal (uninteresting character)
Kaine seems interesting but they didn’t do anything with her character. Instead, they literally killed her LMAO. Fuck this game. I don’t understand why it’s so beloved.
>>
>>743278942
The game is very back loaded. The stuff that makes the characters shine is still coming, >>743278728 is baiting please ignore him
Nier never really gets very special because he's sort of a generic protagonist trope by design, but the others have a lot going on by the end.

Nier is interesting because despite being surrounded by allies who are all changing for the better, his psyche takes a turn for the worse and he gets extreme tunnel-vision. It's like if Griffith was the main character of Berserk, his mental downfall is what makes him interesting.

>it’s not like he really knew what he was doing
He denied the truth that was presented to him.
He doomed the world by cutting off the overseers who created every new generation of replicants, then the book needed to rejoin all remaining replicants to their gestalts, and finally the man who did his best to keep remaining gestalts from relapsing. He did everything wrong, but at the same time, he was a 21-year-old / 44-year-old man being told that everything he ever knew was a lie.

It’s funny that Nier and 9S basically have the same ark but 9S dialed it up to 11
I honestly thought 9S’ was better and more believable as to why he went insane. And learning how much he truly hated 2B while simultaneously loving her as the only true connection in his life gave the story a whole new layer

They probably just think it's over after seeing Ending A. Sad!!
>>
>>743280506
That, or they completely misunderstand the basic ideas being presented in the story, like with automata’s final fight being dismissed as “melodramatic” because “lmao why didn’t A2 just tell 9S she had the coof” that I see repeated everywhere.
There’s too many filters for this game at every stage it’s impossible to find good discussion

So like all Nier threads. Almost like the games aren't good or something.
>>
>>743280693

>>
>>743279516
I think it's an issue of not really caring. What's compelling about the game to me is the "this is all I know and it's my existence, so all I can do is keep fighting for it" thing. Imagine if you were told you aren't a "real" human and everyone you know and love, everything you've ever experienced, it's all not real? And that you should just sacrifice yourself for the real humans? Would you be able to do it?
>>
>>743280693

What is the counter to this?
I loved Nier but I didn't really get much out of Automata, ultimately I enjoyed it but it was only after a second playthrough and reading tons of external story stuff which I feel the game needs to function way more than the original Nier did.
>>
>>743280883
Yeah, I think I'd either snap like 9S or just not care like Nier. Also I just thought of this, Since the Replicants developed sentience, if they were rejoined with their Gestalts, would it be like the movie Get Out where they're still forced to just watch everything for the remainder of their life, from the "sunken place"? That would add a whole new layer to the fucked-upness that the twins' endgame.

I'm currently playing Gravity Rush and I'm surprised to see how many similarities are shared between these games. Yet I don't believe they have any devs in common. Is there any specific reason I'm unaware of?
>>
>>743280919
>what is the counter to this?
9S wanted to die. He very likely knew why A2 killed 2B but he did not care. He was going to die and take A2 with him because not only is she now the closest thing in the world to 2B but he was also told by the twins to not die alone before he entered the tower, and he was going to fulfill that. It was a glorified suicide more than anything. He literally says that he knows he’s being irrational when he tells his pod to STFU and stop giving him logical advice. He had just learned that his whole life and meaning was all pointless and there was no use for him in the world, along with no joy now that 2B was dead which is why he falls on her sword after he wins the fight.
Also this might just be my own theory but I think part of 9S was pissed that A2 got to 2B first. There’s plenty of hints throughout the game that 9S hates 2B as much as he loves her because she is the one killing him and stealing his memories over and over, preventing him from truly being someone other than a soldier
>THESE ARE MY MEMORIES! THEY’RE MINE
As he is saying that stabbing at that very thing that he blames for stealing everything he loves, he looks down and it’s 2B. I think 9S wanted to kill 2B as well.
Hope this helps

Probably, considering gestalt Yonah who's merged into replicant Yonah at the end says "I can hear this girl inside me, she's crying for her brother" or whatever the line is
I think no matter how things shook out project gestalt was kind of doomed
>>
The real villain of replicant will always be [Spoiler] Caim for flying through the portal in the first place and triggering everything
>>
>>743281243
Yeah, I remember that line. So unlike Get Out, instead of the gestalts just enjoying their shiny new donor body without hearing anything from the replicants, they'd be tormented by the replicants' consciousnesses yearning to be in control again. Kinda fucked. Sort of lose/lose for both parties involved.
>>
>>743281116
>Is there any specific reason I'm unaware of?
Besides Yoko Taro being as fan of GR nothing. They did give Kat a 2B outfit in 2. They both came out within a few months of each other. 2017 was a great years for games.
>>
>>743281448
So it's all coincidence then... Thanks anon
>They did give Kat a 2B outfit in 2
I know. It suits her lol
>>
>>743281143
That helps a lot, yeah.
A lot of my problem with the game is that you really just have no way of knowing that until the very end of the last routes, there are some little teeny hints at what 2B's job actually is but I don't think it's enough to piece it together. It's actually the kind of thing I think you're better off being spoiled on
>>
>>743271790
I enjoyed the original, papa version with the 60 fps mod.

and I enjoyed it quite a bit more than the remake.
Idk how to describe it, the original you could see was really good for when it came out and idk any other game really like it. The remake was the original with a slap of new paint on it, with brother, and it doesn't feel as good as automata. I can excuse the original as it is because it came out 16? years ago. Also I like the original songs better. That was a big thing I remember while playing, the new songs were just worse versions of the originals.
>>
>>743281434
I would imagine the idea was to merge the consciousness together since at first the replicants were just empty husks that eventually developed personalities and lives like humans. But even still they are literally merging with themselves so it would be reasonable to assume they would be able to come to an agreement.
But a big point of the game is how easily people with basically the same goal can be turned against each other through both a language barrier and perceived hostility. It basically happens with every shade boss.
Robot: we think it’s hostile because we believe it killed the kid’s brother. Turned out he died in an accident and the shade felt sorry for him but he can’t say that.
Dog: noble and trying to make peace with the humans, but the humans believe the wolves to be dangerous so they slaughter them, and the alpha eventually gets fed up at watching his pack die, but he can’t say that. Even his final words are lamenting that the chief said his exact words back to him about revenge for the fallen
If anyone fucked up it was Kaine for being able to understand what the shades were saying but not stopping and explaining to everyone that they basically are just fighting for no reason
>>

>>
>>743282017
Either she just didn't care, or she loved Nier enough to not guilt trip him. Maybe both.

>When did this game come out?
2021.

>I've never heard of it. I only know automata and the nier for 360.
This is the Nier for 360.
More specifically it's a remaster of the japanese version (NieR Replicant) which instead of starring a dad like NieR Gestalt was protagonized by an older brother.
>>
>>743282017
Allowing repliNier to make it to the end is the result of a lot of characters fucking up, honestly.
>>
>>743282017
>If anyone fucked up it was Kaine for being able to understand what the shades were saying but not stopping and explaining to everyone that they basically are just fighting for no reason
I don't think "for no reason" really describes it. I think she knew there was no solution and both sides are fucked, so it's either "keep fighting for your side and what little life you have left because it's all you know" or "give up and die." You can tell she's battling with that decision though since she wants to die when you first meet her, but by meeting you and Emil she's found a reason to choose what little life is left and may be there.

It's essentially fight or flight when you know you're fucked either way, you still have to make the choice
>>
>>743282017
Yeah, the replicants were never supposed to develop consciousness. It's basically a glitch in the system
>>
>>743283180
>>743282017
Another thing to remember is that Kaine knows "the real humans" as the assholes who tortured and killed her and her grandmother, so she might just think they don't deserve to survive in place of the replicants. The replicants have only ever experienced true humans as literal monsters
