RAND, YOU FUCK
You stole at least five minutes of my life forcing me to watch this stupid room spin.
It's like 12 seconds per partial rotation and you have to click it up to 9 fucking times to go a direction.

still a kino game, i want to replay it now

What a horrible way to start a riven thread you double nincampoop
>>
So how were the D'ni numbers supposed to work past 15 anyway? At least as far as you can tell within riven? You get hints to figure out that what on the side of box is a 2 is, if instead on the bottom of the box, a 10. There was at least one instance with a 3 on the bottom but no hint to its conversion. No examples of 15 as 10+5. Nor any examples with three strokes allowing up to 9 to be added to a 10s place. So is that 3 on bottom 15 to which you can then add up to 4?

You have the 98th Age written in D'ni as |9|8| but no writing of 233. Diaries entries have dates with the year 313 written as |3|13|.

Seriously, what's the logic?

So pretty much as I guessed, but I didn't extrapolate a base 25 component that makes the |9|8| represent 233. And that was not year 313 but 88. But then why add confusion by throwing in the 98th Age as well?

I'll be 100% transparent I don't recall all the lore details of riven but the setting was comfy with those tribal houses and the tree was sick too.

>one door you can knock on in the village

How about:
>earn one of the bad endings
>Gehn himself shows up
>he looks at me like I'm stupid
>he says, "I'm not sure what you thought you were doing..."
>>
I'm still pissed the remake made the fire marble puzzle both not accessible from the start and also 5x5 instead of 25x25
>>
>>743273841
>>743274705
That was me in the remake.
>get to Tay to retrieve the prison book
>natives leave it with me and shut the door
>game expects me to wait a few seconds until they open the door and leave
>too impatient, think the only thing I can do is interact with the prison book I just got back
>get trapped inside
>natives look at me inside the book with absolute disappointment

What's the point other than speedrunning, though? Being able to skip 99% of the game and race to the ending was one of the most baffling decisions of the original Myst. It was funny to see, yeah, but once you realize that the ages only exist to hide the red and blue pages and you actually need NONE of them to get the good ending it kind of takes the magic out of the game. At least with the Riven remake you have to pretend like you're solving the puzzles in order to earn the ending.

Giving the player a puzzle that is very obviously not solvable but that every piece of information on the islands ties back to gives the sense of unraveling something big even though the process of islands->grid->location of domes->number system->color associations->whatever the extra white one was, isn't too complicated. I can respect a game that plays as one puzzle after another, but the original Riven had a much better sense of everything being connected. They also left out the little fountain that fills up with water in the shape of a whark which isn't important but it was cool.

It is a burden that I gladly suffer, to have good taste.

I tried multiple permutations to see what would happen. If you trap yourself just after getting it and returning from Tay, you see Gehn forcing one of his minions to fearfully take your place so he can cage you personally.

>>743276320
Isn't it the same guy from the start of the game?
>>
whats with all the myst talk recently
>>
>>743275434

This actually ties into the OP's complaint. If you have seen that ending puzzle then you have some ability to connect the things you encounter to it which means you can take more useful notes. Without that, you end up reaching the puzzle and then having to leave to go take better notes from things you saw but didn't connect. Which means you have to cycle the room to go between the puzzle and the void airlock a whole bunch.

It reminds me of getting into the Tay access tunnel, going out the door and not being quick enough about taking a screenshot of the lightstick password before it disappeared so I had to sit through an asston of animations to go around through the submersible again.

>>743275914 (Me)
Actually now that I think about it the speedrun is opening the starry rift without having done anything. I'm pretty sure both of them involve some amount of routing power to the applicable appliances though, so you're going to be watching that room spin around regardless. I'm not looking up a Riven speedrun I don't care

>not being quick enough about taking a screenshot of the lightstick password
I was quick enough but theres a delay I guess because they had cycled off in their stupid blinking animation in the screenshot and I had nothing.

They're good games.

If you trap yourself in the book and Ghen gets it, he opens it and talks directly to you for an ending. If Ghen takes the book from you, looks it over and finds nothing amiss, then asks you to go through first in an abundance of caution - after you go in he looks at the book, sees nothing wrong, and traps himself letting you back out. Make it make sense.

You should try the rotating maze puzzle from Obduction.

At least it doesn't give you any fucking linear algebra puzzles. Myst had a couple simple boolean system of equation puzzles but the history of puzzle games is littered with fucking matrix systems of equations.

I don't remember that one. IIRC if you trap yourself in the book, it's an instant bad ending.

And rightly so.

i still need to finish this, i just get lost on where i'm going. i also accidentally completely the pylon puzzle at the water before i consciously worked out the correct relay.

Do you think they chickened out of VR exclusivity because it would limit potential customers or because they realized they didn't have anything interesting to say that required it?
>>743279603
Whoever took this picture should kill themselves, but so too should you, for either saving it to a hard drive, or dedicating a portion of your brain to remembering it to look up later.
>>
>>743279704
Finally played this a few weeks ago. Only significant complaint is the second reveal at the ending. The first reveal is great, however.
Also WMR performance is total dogshit for reasons unknown. Probably UE related.

Don't forget how it worked because you get to do it again later. ^_^

i think it's genuinely the worst remake i ever played
the glazing it received is incomprehensible
