Plus, they keep their "ability", like a merchant can still be used to buy and sell stuff, for example.In terms of battle, you can condense them (easily too, any human can be used for anyone), you can upgrade their stats with Pal souls, up their IVs with fruits, give them any attack with the skill fruits; the only limited thing is being unable to breed them to get passive skills on them, you have to either get really lucky or use the Pal Surgery table. In the end, they're perfectly usable and not bad at all, desu. Different people have different base skills, there is some human that is able to do any base skill you want, except Electricity, that you'll have to use the Human-powered wheel thing, no one is able to generate power by themselves. Everything else though, Kindling, Cooling, everything, perfectly doable with people. You definitely can play this game without using any Pals at all.
