why arent we getting any good superhero games? you would think ever since the movies caught fire there would be more games but its mostly been batman, spiderman, and assorted flops. the movie craze came and went and lasted like 15 years and in those 15 years vidya never took advantage of the popularity of the superhero/comic book genre being more popular than it ever was

because superhero powers are a nightmare to design around

batman works because he's just a brawler/stealth guy with gadgets. spiderman works because swinging is the whole game and his power level is still "gets punched by street thugs for 30 hours". the second you make a real superman/wonder woman/flash/green lantern game you either have to nerf them into a shitty beat em up or actually simulate being a demigod, which no publisher wants to fund because it's risky as fuck.

also marvel/dc licensing means 500 suits in the room arguing over whether the cape clips through canon. much easier to make another open world slop original IP with a skill tree.
