He normally came to on his own, and they then spend time giving him hypnotic suggestion to erase his past identity and create a new one. It's basically magic. Him coming out of his coma in the game is AFTER they have messed with him, and allowed him to come out of the induced coma they put him in after he had already came out on his own.
