>>
Me too, i would never waste my childhood being obsessed with Warcraft lore
>>
>>743284507
why would they fire people who make a game that makes a billion dollars a year
>>
>>743284537
We need indian leadership at Blizzard. Indians love Arthas
>>

>>
>>743284537
game dev isn't hard, hire some jeets to maintain it and pay them pennies
>>
not a single nigger in that image made warcraft
>>
>>743284467
something normal like Lovecraft maybe
>>
>>743284798
I'm surprised they didn't name diablo hellcraft, must've taken a lot of restraint
>>
>>743285643

diablo was originally made by a different company that later got absorbed
>>
>>743285774
So was StarCraft, didn't stop them.

>When talking about how to best make Warcraft appeal to a wider audience and ruin for to core fans, Chris Metzen said, "I wish we hadn’t called it Warcraft. It sounds intimidating".
>>
It's kind of a shit name that was chosen to make it obvious they were ripping off Warhammer Fantasy
>>
>>743284467
Well to be fair they didn't know that their fantasy setting would eventually NOT be about war.
>>
>>743284467
None of these LARPing troons were involved in the creation of Warcraft. They're nothing but leeches who grafted on to a successful business and weaseled their way to lead position by virtue of attrition alone.
>>
>>743284467
Yeah, heavens forbid you should have things happen in your fantasy adventure series. We should all be aping comic books by having soap operas and half-baked political theming instead of trying to get people invested in the product we're selling them.
>>
>>743285909
I love when shitters parrot things they have no idea about
>>
>>743286118
I love when Warcraft stans get mad people know about the series' origins as a licensed Warhammer game that fell through, so they filed off the identifying marks and called it their own thing.
>>
>>743284507
Blizzard actually makes money and creates products that the gamer cattle wants. Like it or not, but people still really want to pay money to play retail WoW even in the current year.
>>
>>743285875
thats because you made it as a warhammer clone Metzen you senile fuck
>>
>>743286243
starcraft too, you can see the 40k "influence" quite easily
>>
And what would you have called it?

Peacecraft?
>>
>>743286243
>>743286339
you are right in a way but at the same times kinda wrong.
Warcraft has a lot of inspiration from other stuff other than Warhammer
And Starcraft is the same.
They really are their own thing.
Starcraft was Metzen's dream space cowboy game.

Warcraft has all sorts of obvious inspirations
>>
>>743284467
Yeah, it's a stupid name.
>>
>>743286376
this is what pissed me off about the expansion Mists of Pandaria.
Where they tried to force this
>stooooop fighting
theme, with the Pandarens being so wise and the horde and alliance being stupid for being at war.
Yet the Pandarens were at war with multiple factions and had been their entire history.

>Allen Adham hoped to obtain a license to the Warhammer universe to try to increase sales by brand recognition. Warhammer was a huge inspiration for the art-style of Warcraft, but a combination of factors, including a lack of traction on business terms and a fervent desire on the part of virtually everyone else on the development team (myself included) to control our own universe nixed any potential for a deal. We had already had terrible experiences working with DC Comics on “Death and Return of Superman” and “Justice League Task Force”, and wanted no similar issues for our new game.
>It’s surprising now to think what might have happened had Blizzard not controlled the intellectual property rights for the Warcraft universe — it’s highly unlikely Blizzard would be such a dominant player in the game industry today.

It was one guy, and the rest of the team pushed back. Also the same guy coined the name 'Warcraft' and he wanted it to be a wide moniker that would have a new subtitle for every game, and they would be covering different historical periods. Thank God based Sam Didier saved it by suggesting they do a fantasy game because he wanted to draw fantasy. Hence why it's called Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. All of this is straight from the mouth of the original lead programmer for the first game:

It's a good read, lots of insight into what could have been.
>>
>>743286573
yeah anyone familiar with warhammer and warcraft can tell warcraft isn't warhammer.
It's drawing inspiration from other places.
Like more american style d&d stuff. Conan the barbarian and Frazetta, even the BFG
>>
>>743284467
They look like they want to fuck that chick
>>
>>743284537
not being facetious here and im 100% serious but I would trust a random homeless person or a 9 year old in elementary school to design a better PvP zone than that one I saw when I played WoD back in the day, that one Holinka made was so bad it still left an impression on me.
>>
>>743286573
lucky for them they pushed back and got full ownership of pretty much all their games/IPs making them one of the richest companies in gaming
wonder how much of that money ended up in the pockets of the actual devs tho and not just management/founders
>>
>theres a push to change warcraft's name and turn into a faggotry simulator
tell me with a straight face there isn't an agenda here
>>
Playing through Warcraft 3 made me realise how absolutely awful the writing was, and Warcraft 3 was the pinnacle of their writing.

While we can somewhat excuse it for being more focused on gameplay with the story just being the trappings for us killing stuff; the fact remains that the characters literally introduce themselves and reveal their goals, their allegiance and their secrets immediately. You never feel the sting of betrayal or the slow corruption of Arthas because they just flat out immediately tell you that he is being manipulated.

Then there's the whole thing with Jaina and Uther, and then Jaina again; where you have these supposed pacifists who are also architects of genocide when you play them and then Jaina supports an actual genocidal horde over her father and its just bad. Just bad.

Yeah, the theme of the hero with good intentions becoming the villain is compelling and awesome; but they did not create this archetype, and their version of it is actually dreadfully written and only went anywhere because for many kids it was their first exposure to the trope.

Its also exceptionally common in Warhammer to the point that the whole point of Chaos in both 40k and fantasy is that someone with good intentions ends up doing something wicked and slowly becomes the villain and usually ends up straight up possessed or willingly devoted to dark gods.

Now with all of this said, I wouldn't mind Warcraft if it still existed as a metal-inspired universe of Arnie-tier humans in full plate doing battle with hulking demon-blooded green Huns, supplemented by hook nosed bankers profiting off both sides, and with scantily clad elf maidens there because sometimes teenage boys get horny. Throw in RTS mechanics and light RPG elements to bring the factions to life; and I loved it for the cheesy nonsense that it was, tailor-made for every young man in the world.

... seeing them talking about their creation as if its some linguistic masterpiece is just ridiculous though.
>>
Why are all men in gaming low test faggots now? Did women in the studios make them like this? Did they use their wiles and manipulation skills to annex all the dudebros? Literally what happened?
>>
>>743287482
the rockstars of yesteryear either retired, were bullied into silence or became low test family men cowtowing to their nagging harpy wives and whore daughters
media and society brainwashes young men into becoming weak faggots and the ones who aren't stay silent or go into something else like trades
>>
>>743284537
>why would they fire people who make a game that makes a billion dollars a year
You talking about the people who left Blizzard around ~2008 and were replaced by looney troons who don't make anything worth a shit who drove the brand into ruin?
Nice revisionism trooners.
