ITT: games you missed out playing and are not unplayable. How was Evolve at launch? It looked really cool but at that time I was a massive dotard and only played that shit game all day (it's terrible).

You ran around the map in circles until you die or complete the objectives. So, SO many microtransactions. It got old fast.

Was it even bad compared to today's shooting games? How was playing the monster?

There were a low number of monsters released early on. Mainly it was just Goliath, Kraken and a bit more. The gist of it is you needed to farm to evolve and grow more powerful, focus on splitting up and killing the hunters which was almost impossible. It was very fun and you felt powerful though. Naturally everyone wanted to be the monster.

The microtransactions might seem tame in comparison to modern games, but gamers weren't comfortable with spending that much money on a game at the time. No single player mode, heaps of day one DLC and more next year. Pre-order got you Behemoth. Season passes were introduced too. You'd be shocked at how many packs and 'editions' that came out. It was all too overwhelming. Didn't help EVOLVE matches were samey.

Shame playing the monster sounded fun though, thanks for the insight anon.

>nowdays i could easily afford the subscription and expansions

The demo was cool, the launch was awful.

dodged a bullet, figuratively and literally

I dunno about launch, but I played it shortly before they took it off the Xbox store; fucking loved it. No matter which role I was playing, it felt like I had some solid DPS and survivability, and the character abilities were all super fun. I miss it.
