So we agree that Valve could never top it?
>>743309714Probably.Although I would consider both Half-Life 1 and 2 to be of equal quality (just in different aspects)So I would say its not impossible since they've done it in the past
Valve could top it if they stopped lying to their community, finished Artifact Foundry, and held the million-dollar tournament they promised.Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
>>743309714I refuse to accept that physics in games cannot be improved in a dramatic fashion. The diminishing returns of graphics of graphics makes sense, but physics?
a hypothetical sequel could indeed top it if they went with a more imsim direction to game design as well as integrating interesting novel technology like destructible intractable environments and geoforming.
hl alyx already topped it
>>743309714There are so many parts that totally drag the experience down. It's far from perfect. Maybe Valve themselves cant top it anymore because they are more interested in gaas and casinos now, but it's far from perfect.
>>743309991Promising physics was the big game from HL2 to late 00s. Then it suddenly disappeared from AAA gaming. Not even mentioned, not even as a marketing gimmick, not even as a lie. It occasionally resurfaced in smaller projects. What was the problem? Consoles? Average gamer IQ dropping? The third world getting into gaming?
>>743310741consoles and graphicsfaggotry topping interest in novel technology is usually the reason. probably part of the reason why john carmack bailed the gaming industry since nobody values contributions such as the ones he made anymore.
>>743310575Too bad nobody played it or gives a shit about VR trash at all
>>743309714They can easily top it they just don't actually need to and so it goes.I played half life 2 on release and the last time I played it again was in 2017, it's really not that phenomenal of a game anymore, but it really was at the time.
>>743310741because every game has physics. it's like marketing that your 3d game has 3d graphics. just redundant and retarded
>>743311149I think you're missing his point pretty big time here.
