I started playing Ninja Gaiden II Black recently and I initially just put it on hard rather than very hard because when I played NGΣ on whatever the hardest difficulty was before Master Ninja it pissed me off to an insane degree, but it was consistently engaging and rewarding as much of a pain in the ass it was. I had to restart NG2B on very hard because it's just boring on lower difficulties. I'd be curious if there are actually any good easy difficulties out there because while harder ones can get on your nerves sometimes, they do at least engage you and make you engage with the game's mechanics in a way that doesn't happen on easy modes. I just don't see where the fun is in autopiloting through a game that never demands anything of you.
