You will find the most unearnest people will make ugly characters, because they consider taking fictional media seriously to be childish or gay, so everything is a joke to them, to be mocked and belittled.

in a lot of these character creators surpassing the uncanny valley is hard- hence "good from front, turn around, fish face" meme comics- but forwards isn't the only direction on the graph that escapes it.
