I need suggestions similar to Lunacid, Dread Delusion, Arx Fatalis, Northern Journey, Severance: Blade of Darkness, Labyrinth of the Demon King
>>
Why do people pretend to care about this game?

because it is peak
>>
>>743328967
KF4 is unironically comfy anon

I'm afraid you've already listed all the noteworthy ones, though all of them suck sadly

The demo for Queens domain is pretty big, has a lot of secrets. That's something to look forward to at least. Verho is supposed to be similar to KF2, but I haven't played it.
>>
>>743330129
I have, it's good but not stellar. 7.4/10
>>
>>743328874
Verho is the best kingshit like I've played so far
>>
>>743330105
I haven't played a single game on that list yet, but I intend to. What's wrong with asking for a list of good games in a genre that you want to get into? Are you mad that I don't play bad games or something?
>>
>>743330202
I liked it but preferred Lunacid for the atmosphere and art
>>
>>743328874
Verho, play it, it's fucking good.
>>
>>743328874
I find this game so cool but I'd like a reliable way to play with regular stick controls instead of having to use the shoulder buttons, I struggled with that then and I specially struggle now
>>
>>743330295
Having speed and jump height as stats you level up kinda broke the game for me like halfway through

I chuckled but only because I think you're doing a pretending to be retarded skit. If you're serious you should kill yourself right now.
>>
>>743330204
because almost all of those games are nothing like king's field and as such doesn't answer OP's question and mostly just serves to waste everyone's time.
>>
>>743330204
not that anon but I've played:
Alisa
Tormented Souls
SIGNALIS
Lost in Vivo
Labyrinth of the Demon King
Lunacid (3rd best)
Arx Fatalis (perhaps the best)
Dread Delusion
Northern Journey (perhaps 2nd best)

All of them are good.

/v/ flexing that dogshit taste as usual.
>>
I just finished up KF4 and loved it. Trying to decide which of these games I play next i'm leaning toward kf1 and 2, but the Dark Tower games sound cool.
>>
>>743330357
What's funny for me is that I got so used to using the shoulder buttons for looking up and down that by the time I played 4, I hated using the stick and continued to use the shoulder buttons. I'd like to see more KF inspired games stick with that limitation.
>>
>>743328874
King's Field IV is fun, but could have ended like 33% earlier.
>>
>>743338118
More content, as long as it's high effort, is always welcome. I'll never understand people on this board want games to be shorter. Feels like normalgod wagies or people with ADHD freaking out about muh backlog.
>>
>>743334732
Verho was pretty sick, although I don't think it felt too much like King's Field. I got over that gripe pretty quickly though because I thought it was just overall very well designed and if anything, I think it's definitely its own thing. Does NG+ add anything interesting?
>Lunacid
The dev really needed to make the crossbow not have infinite ammo, that's such a monumentally dumb design choice. Outside of that I thought it was fine from the bit I did play. Is it out of early access? I might give it a shot again from scratch if so. If anything it'd make me more excited for their prequel game made in Sword of Moonlight.
>>743337095
>Dark Tower
I don't think Stephen King's had those adapted to games yet, anon. Shadow Tower, on the other hand, is pretty cool. I personally liked the first one but thought it was overall weaker than the King's Field games due to its level design. ST Abyss meanwhile is pretty damn cool and I think it stands out on its own from King's Field despite a similar control scheme. If I was you, I'd give the first three King's Field games a shot next. They all have their charm, most people seem to love 2 the most, but my personal favorite was 3.
>>
>>743338341
When people on the internet talk about KF, are they defaulting to the JP numbering? So KF2 (everyone's fav) is just KF1 (US)?

Also I heard the Dark Tower games are a bit more open.

Knight's Try is Mario 64 as Catarina Knight so it's not KF at all. But you can play with KF midis :)

It's a cool niche subgenre for FromSoftware fans and we're glad it happened

Just be aware that the KF games have an early Final Fantasy situation going on where English game 1 is Japanese game 2 and English game 2 is Japanese game 3.
Also the demo disc for 3 is actually it's own game with a unique story and levels, so don't skip it

Check out Ex Libris if you prefer meditative exploration and unravelling mysteries over hack-and-slash. Just released last month and it’s free on steam. Made in KF engine, but with a lot of custom assets. Not the dev but I did do the music.
>>
>>743345121
>Made in KF engine
Neat. That must be the second game after Lunacid Tears of the Moon now
>>
Any kingsfield likes have the slow movement and turn speed of the original, games like lucaid are way more fast and responsive
>>
>>743345170
There are a whole bunch, it's just nobody talks about them. They are all made in Sword Of Moonlight, a tool which Fromsoft released 26 years ago. It would be quite odd if people stared using it only just now.
>>
>>743345458
I feel like they weren't well preserved
>>
>>743345568
Welcome to the asian internet, they don't seem to give a single fuck about preserving any of their work. You think hobbyist niche shit getting wiped out with sites is bad in the west, but they are on another level.
>>
Lunacid is feels completely front loaded and more like the kind of game someone who likes the idea of playing King's Field would make. I know the dev is more a Shadow Tower Abyss fan (which is just a diluted KF/PS1 ST anyway).

I ended up liking Tears of the Moon more, probably because the engine forced them to restrain themselves.

Check out Moratheia. Another Sword of Moonlight game.
I played it years ago on a recommendation from a thread just like this one.
>>
>>743346172
How do these sword of moonlight games work legally, could you put them up on itch.io or sell them on steam like an rpg maker game? Or does Fromsoft basically own anything you make in this engine
>>
>>743346482
Tears of the Moon was made free so I think you can't charge for it
>>
>>743333982
Underrated response, DS2 is literally just another KF in its design philosophy but in third person.
>>
>>743338269
It's a complete normgroid mind virus, they literally freak out when you mention rewatching several things or even playing a video game over again.
>>
>>743345330
I think a lot of people are playing kf with things like turn speed/fps mods and saying they played them. Yeah no shit the games are significantly less painful if you can actually turn and not play at 10 fps. The problem is those aren't the original games anymore.
>>
>>743348715
why is high fps a bad thing?
>>
>>743348715
It's called quality of life. You can't get the hardcore retro achievements if you use those mods though so flex your hardcore cheevos if you want to pretend to be a hardcore King's Field fan
>>
>>743348715
You can't play KF2/3 at high fps though. All the fps mods fuck up things like projectile speeds.
>>
>>743348870
It's not a bad thing, I'm saying it's not the original game anymore. You're basically playing a rom hack

>>743348891
Not precisely defining what it means to have played a game creates confusion in discussions, especially when it comes to a jankfest like kf, not because someone is more hardcore than someone else

Sorry but if free mouse control mapped to analog stick is an option I'll take it. Even if it disables hardcore mode.
>>
>>743346482
there's at least one that's paid, I doubt fromsoft actually cares about 20 year old assets
>>
>>743349178
Fucking with turn speed is straight up cheating but resolution, frame rate, and using different inputs is still technically the same game. Even Nintendo upscales their own retro games on their scam service.
>>
>>743349607
It's not even the turn speed. It's so you can move the camera in all directions. It also doesn't affect attack speed.
>>
>>743349380
Reminds me of the time I said this one console game had a bad camera and someone argued that this wasn't the case. After a long back and forth he said he played the PC port with a mouse. Really stupid situation when people are playing two different games essentially
>>
How the fuck do you do special attacks with swords in KF4? Apparently you press the cast button mid swing? I couldn't get it to work no matter what my timing was.
>>
>>743350340
there's supposed to be two different kinds, one you press magic mid swing and the other you have to press X, then swing, then press magic mid swing. I could only get the second to work, but I only tried with the moonlight sword. You also have to have the sword you're using it on at level 3. The rhythm is basically like quickly tapping X then square, then wait a second and press triangle.

>>743328967
It's a cult classic. That's it. It's got a strong identity and a distinct atmosphere, but its flaws make it ripe for improvement. Recent successful games inspired by it indicate that there's a market for King's Field-like games nowadays, so there's hope for more stuff like it.
>>
>>743338341
>The dev really needed to make the crossbow not have infinite ammo, that's such a monumentally dumb design choice. Outside of that I thought it was fine from the bit I did play. Is it out of early access? I might give it a shot again from scratch if so.
It's fully done, though there's DLC coming apparently.
>If anything it'd make me more excited for their prequel game made in Sword of Moonlight.
It's... just okay. It's more notable for the context of being made in the level creator FS put out than for being some exceptional gameplay experience or anything.
>>
>>743349112
can't you just crank the emulator speed up...?
>>
>>743348348
How so? Really seems more like a fucking Dark Souls game to me but hey what do I know
>>
>>743328874
I was thinking of making one of these myself, but I also want to make a few different games in different genres and so it's hard to choose what I want to spend the next 10 years solo-devving
>>
>>743353370
The game doesn't use delta time and as far as I know there is as of yet no patch which actually comprehensively adds delta time to all the aspects of the game. There is a patch for 3 that tries to apply delta time to a lot of stuff like the music and some of the physics. He sets the player speed to 4x slower since at 60fps the game is running 4x faster than usual. However, it doesn't change enemy projectiles at all so they become impossibly fast and you are 4x slower so you can't dodge them anymore which is a huge problem.

>>
>>743354532
Delta in general is hard to implement if you don't understand math properly. It's usually just better to tie physics to a frame timing. If they're aiming at, say, 60fps, they could just find all the timings and instead of like timing.delta or timing(delta) or whatever language theyre using, and then defining modifiers to the delta to make sure your game going at 3000fps doesn't flip out, it's easier just to go to timing(60).
>>
>>743348715
I don't mind low FPS, but the variable FPS cuz of slowdowns is gonna take some getting use to.
