Why don't game prices go down over time anymore?
>>
>>743341373
There are sales here and there but immediately afterwards it goes right back to 70 dollars a game
>>
>>743341373
because Nintendo
>>
after 5 years all games should be half price
>>
>>743341373
They do, but it's only physicals and digital summer sales so you mileage my vary on that.

seph-sama...

>No more physical
>Somehow digital only gets more expensive
Cursed universe
>>
>>743341373
They do? Just in form of increasing percentage discounts. After a game has been discounted once, no one ever buys that game at full price again.
>>
>>743341571
The point was to get rid of used game sales. Anyone who thought abolishing physical media would actually reduce game costs was a kike slave.
>>
>>743341373
People in the past thought that video games were like all other technology and that they became obsolete when more advanced versions come out. That's why you could buy NES games from Funco Land for a couple quarters at the turn of the century.
In addition the move to digital+online shopping means there's no cost to keep old games on the shelves. You could buy a copy of Wind Waker for 20 dollars new from Target if you waited until a year after it released because they wanted to clear out stock and make room for new games. When you instead are selling downloads through the internet, or are shipping from a warehouse, you don't need to worry about shelf space.

just pirate, they'll learn eventually
>>
>>743341373
Because consoles became desperate over incresed competition from both mobile and PC, and decided to milk their cattle as much as possible before going down.

good one
>>
>>743341571
That was always the point. Eliminating competition between retailers means the platform holder doesn't have to discount shit. You will own nothing AND pay more to do it.
>>

Why would you? Unless you're being roped into some friendslop there's no real reason to play it now now now when you've already missed the release buzz anyway. Just wait 3 months for the next sale, probably less if your price tracker includes 3rd-party key sellers.

Video games should be expensive.

Inexpensive games encourage unchecked and impulsive consumerism and breed overselectivity, both of which are detrimental for the medium as a whole. When games are expensive, prospective customers must actually weigh their options and conduct some degree of analysis as to whether the product is worth the cost. And once the purchase is made they will feel more compelled to engage with the game, as it was not a frivolous expense.

It should also be noted that games purchased at full price yield greater returns for developers and publishers. The sooner development costs are made back and the work turns an actual profit the better it is for everyone involved, be it developers, publishers or customers.

So, games not going down in price is a good thing for everyone.

If you make a good game then why should it be cheap?

But if digital prices are now entirely proprietary, then doesn't Sony now have a monopoly?

They make more putting it on periodic sale.
If they slash the price permanently from say $50 to $25, people won't feel the urge to buy it instantly, but if it's on sale for $25 for a week people will FOMO buy it so that they don't miss the sale.
This is why there are some games that you see go on sale every other month.
>>
>>743341373
I've always been confused how obsessed /v/ is with games. Games arent an expensive hobby. You can buy a new game every month, like new new, and a dozen old ones for under 1000 bucks a year, which is nothing for anyone with an actual income. Its actually one of the cheaper hobbies out there. It costs more to have good camping supplies to go camping.
>>
>>743341571
game prices aren't going down while game budgets just keep going up and up
>>
>>743341571
games have been 60 dollars for 20 years
the fact that they're only now getting smacked with extremely minor inflation while 10 bucks won't buy a fuck ton of tacos at Taco Bell anymore is amazing
>>
>>743341373
What's wild to me is that game prices should go down if they aren't physically being produced but theyre in fact going up. If youre not pirating or getting sales on Steam or GoG youre cattle
>>
>>743342820
camping supplies should last you years if you arent a retard

I love his original wave of vids so much
