Why does every single "spiritual successor" to an old beloved franchise turn out to become a total failure
Yooka-laylee, mighty number 9, balan wonderworld

Bloodstained was good.

Yooka Laylee redeemed themselves and impossible lair is a great DKC throwback

Because many of those franchises came out during a time of incredible innovation and remix franchises rely heavily on nostalgia, which lends a more critical eye because then people evaluate the remix games to the standards they have in their minds of the games they played as a childhood.

>as a childhood.
I need sleep, holy fuck.

because the ones making it have nothing to do with the old developers

Bloodstained was OKAY, but had really small amounts of actually good abilities compared to Dawn and Aria, its spiritual predecessors.

Banjo is hot

Because many key people who were involved with the originals are usually left out. Most of the core programmers weren't involved with Yooka-Laylee, Gregg Mayles the damn creator and character designer of Banjo himself wasn't involved at all, the original musician known for his distinct style of Banjo ost only did about 50% of the tracks that time around, and the Stamper Brothers, the main drivers of Rare success weren't involved either.
