RARE was the one developer keeping the N64 from total irrelevance. You think garbage like Kirby 64 or Paper Mario was doing it? Fuck no (which, btw, Perfect Dark sold more copies than them)Reminder that Goldeneye outsold literally every Gaycube game at over 8 million copies.>B-b-but They would've made Diddy Kong Racing 2 for the GC and it would've sold a ton and I have no doubt it would've been better than Double Trash.
>>743353832>GoldeneyeReminder a new spiritual successor to it is to be released soonhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1574480/Agent_64_Spies_Never_Die/
THAT BEAT IS RARE
>>743353832Kirby 64 and Paper Mario were released at the tail end of the console's lifespan.
>>743354000So was Perfect Dark
>>743354024Perfect Dark was good, but reload anims and multiplayer aside it was worse than Goldeneye.
>>743353954Looks good, I'll check it out. My only complaint is I wish the animations on the enemies getting hit was a little more...elaborate. Like GE and PD. The main thing I loved about those games was the hit animations. Either way I'll still pick it up.
>>743354221Good hit animations for this kind of game started dying out with Timesplitters (which despite the glazing, Timesplitters 2 sucks major ass)
>>743353832It makes me sad that we don't live in the timeline where Nintendo bought Rare at their asking price out of good will for their massive contributions to the N64's library. Without Rare the N64 would not have been worth owning, and they probably had a lot of masterpieces left to make if they had been able to just keep going after Star Fox Adventures. They were developing a Perfect Dark sequel on the Gamecube and the Cube desperately needed a good exclusive FPS.
>>743354150NTA, but that's gonna be a no from me, dawg. I love Goldeneye, but Perfect Dark one-upped it in absolutely every single category. It's not even a contest. You can say personal preference, but PD blows it out of the water. All guns and secondary functions. Laptop gun becoming a sentry? That's just one example and absolute wins on that gun alone.Coop. No, not just coop. COUNTER-OP as well. Let your buddy play as a fucking guard. Unheard of at the time, and still ain't seeing shit like that today unless its an entire game made around the conceptYou mentioned the multiplayer, which deserves more than a brief mention. So many custom options. Even your MP character. Play as a human with an alien head.Single-player missions that outright change at higher difficulties. GE had this, but PD took it to the next level. In one Datadyne level you have an entire helicopter chasing your ass through the building on harder difficulty.Music I'd say was on par with Goldeney and was great. But more of it.Honorable mentions: Hoverbike, secret areas in some maps, bonus missions, I'm probably missing a dozen things.
>>743354342And despite what people think, I don't think PDZ would've been what the Gamecube received. "PD2" feels like a compromised vision after having to move it from console to console console.
>>743354268>which despite the glazing, Timesplitters 2 sucks major assFinally someone said it. The only ones who don't think so never played Perfect Dark. Shit is a total downgrade.
>>743354418One aspect I really don't like is the time travel aspect, as levels end up not making sense from one to the other. Also the Cyberpunk stage and Jungle maze level are maybe some of the worst levels ever.
>>743354487I think that was the point so they could string together different locations and justify it. For Perfect Dark and Goldeneye you're an agent going to different locations. I just didn't like how everything felt like a step backwards.
>>743354383I did miss a dozen things, and I'm definitely going to add them.MINES ON ENEMIES. That shit right there was a game changer in singleplayer and MP I remember throwing a proximity mine on a Simulant in multiplayer, and he goes around a corner and takes out my friend in the explosion. I'll never forget that. Multiple pathways/endings: In Area 51 you can escape via the spaceship with Elvis, or you can let Jonathan go instead, and hop on the Hoverbike and escape that way. Such a memorable ending. In Airbase there is a couple of ways to get into Air Force One. In G5 building your escape door depends on where you placed the remote mine.Shooting range in Carrigton Institute: Fun side activity to unlock bonus missions and cheats Alright I'm done despite knowing I'm still missing shit.
>>743354342>jap company>nintendo at that>treating a western developer with respectlola mao
>>743353832GoldenEye is the perfect example of a nostalgia game, the only people that swear by it are people who played it as a kid.On the same console, Perfect Dark is a vast improvement over it in all areasFor the gameplay style, TimeSplitters perfected itFor Bond games, Nightfire brutally mogs it
Nigga both run and look like shit, and only sold well because there ws nothing else to buy
