it looks cool but it also makes spacing and positioning irrelevant. In the original if you let yourself get cornered by a mob of enemies you got severely punished for it. To compensate for the powerful parry they also made it harder for you to stun enemies with legshots or headshots which makes the game reactive rather than proactive.

Doesn't fix the fact that the developers made hitstun unreliable because of the parry. In the original RE4 it was a reliable crowd control tool. The only reliable hitstun in RE4 remake is the parry.

Dodge rolling gives you iframes, the parry doesn't. That's why they had to double parry in the video before getting skewered by a very hard enemy to parry btw. It's not magic and there are countless examples of people completely fucking up parry timing in the remake.

just play on professional. that way parrying is more challenging than just shooting enemies off of you was at any given moment in the original. It's not "hard", but you need to be somewhat aware of your spacing and what's going on and that's enough to justify it being in an re4-like game. it's as demanding as any of the mechanics in either version get and of course as demanding as you'd want a mechanic to be in games like that (shooters that should remain mechanically straightforward)
desu, if a random, less popular, older original game had a parry/counterattack mechanic where you could counter incoming attacks with your knife, with different responses like the enemy losing a limb if they were unarmed, and stylish excess like the muzzle flash when you get it, people would absolutely think it was awesome. but because it's RE4R it's apparently a bad idea to even consider including it. there's nothing wrong with having a parry really, just make sure you're making a good game. re4r is just kind of mid for various different reasons, mainly jank, just being a kind of generic shooter etc. the evil within already modernized/remade re4 infinitely better ages ago

You mean like Metal Gear Rising where parrying isn't a universal option select for every problem and requires skill to pull off consistently? In RE4 remake the parry window is so generous and the way your character needs to be positioned so generous that it's as if Leon was casting a 360 degree shield spell. Parry shouldn't be a panic button, that's what flashbangs were for.

it's not though, if you can parry on professional reliably/easily that means you're already capable of controlling the situation in encounters (keeping the enemies at the right distance and angle and keepnig more than 1 enemy at a time from attacking you), at which point it becomes just another tool. someone playing re4r well wouldn't really use the parry for negating damage at all, as they wouldn't need to, they'd use it as another damage/cc tool. if the radius was any smaller it'd feel horrendous, that's why games don't do that generally, blocks and stuff are omnidirectional or 90 degrees in front of you, including re6

You admitted that essentially a parry gives you iframes. you press it and pay a resource(durability, stamina) to avoid the damage. the specific animation that differs it from rolling doesn't matter. enemy transitioning to a deflected state/animation doesn't matter. at its core its the same thing.
